Harden, Alessandra Ramos de Oliveira;
Trabalhos em Linguística Aplicada , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-18132011000200005
Abstract: between 1799 e 1801, the publishing house casa literaria do arco do cego was fully active in lisbon and dedicated to publishing scientific and didactic works regarding the application of natural scientific knowledge. it was run by friar josé mariano da concei??o veloso, a brazilian naturalist and tireless translator. to accomplish its aim of bringing progress to the portuguese kingdom through instruction, arco do cego held its activities within a system of patronage in which the portuguese crown would pay for all of its expenses, including the payment of the translators working for veloso. one of these translators was manoel jacinto nogueira da gama, a mathematician, naturalist and lecturer who translated works in the areas of mathematics and engineering. the translations published under veloso's supervision were introduced by dedicatories and prefaces written in a laudatory tone by the translators, who through such paratexts acknowledged their debt to the crown and declared their loyalty to the monarchical regime and traditions of the portuguese society. in this paper, the aim is to show that the translators' paratexts worked as tools for the acceptance of the enlightened scientific principles, because the progressive ideas were presented to the portuguese readers by discourses written in accordance with the scholastic tradition.

Tatiana G. T. Santos, Alessandra Ramos Venosa, Andre Luiz Lopes Sampaio
International Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery (IJOHNS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ijohns.2015.43030
Abstract: Introduction: Dizziness is very prevalent and makes a great impact on people’s life. Because of anatomical and functional similarities of hearing and vestibular systems, it is noted that there is a big relation between hearing loss and vestibular disorders. Depending on the age onset of hearing loss, it can cause even delay on motor development. Objective: To find literature that demonstrates the relation between hearing and balance. Confirming that hearing loss or even intervention to improve quality of hearing can interfere on vestibular system. Methodology: Revision of literature was carried out, preferring recent research only in English. Conclusion: Cochlea and vestibular systems have a close relationship; changes in one of them can cause big damage in the other. So, a complete evaluation of vestibular system is recommended before ear surgeries. Video Head Impulse Test is a new procedure able to evaluate high frequency movements of the head. It was an additional exam of vestibular status and came to help detect problems that were not diagnosed before. Efforts must be directed in order to protect the balance.

Abstract: studies about prejudice and discrimination carried out in several countries have demonstrated that such phenomenon is taking more subtle shapes. this work is inserted in this field and investigates sexual orientation effects in the infra-humanization process. participants were 135 students from the human resources post-graduation course. they had answered a questionnaire that required them to evaluate individuals who could be either homosexuals or heterosexuals by the attribution of natural or cultural characteristics in order to verify the presence of the infra-humanization process in the prejudice against homosexuals. different from the previous studies, the results indicated that the prejudice against homosexuals is expressed in a more subtle way through the attribution of more positive characteristics to heterosexuals and the attribution of the same level of negative characteristics to both groups of individuals. these results are discussed emphasizing the importance of more studies about the subject which has been neglected by social psychologist.

Silva, Marivana Borges;Ramos, Alessandra de Rezende;Venturieri, Giorgini Augusto;
Ciência e Agrotecnologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-70542006000200010
Abstract: many works have been done on cocoa (theobroma cacao) in vitro culture, with few studies being published for other species of the same genus, as cupuassu (t. grandiflorum), whose planted area is increasing expressively, and others that could be used as a source of genes for those with recognized economical importance. protocols to obtain in vitro somatic embryos from t. cacao,t. grandiflorum,t. speciosum and the hybrid t. grandiflorum x t. obovatum from two sources of explants, staminodes and petals (formed by ligues and cogules) were evaluated, using a primary callus growth medium made of dkw salts, supplemented with 20 g l-1 of sucrose, 250 mg l-1 of glutamine, 200 mg l-1 of myo-inositol, 0.2 mg l-1 of thyamine-hcl; 0.1 mg l-1 of nicotinic acid; 0.2 mg l-1 of glycine; 2 mg l-1 of 2,4-d; 2.2 g l-1 of gelrite? and the ph adjusted to 5.8. to this media was added different concentrations of thidiazuron (0; 5 and 10 μg l-1). cultures were maintained at dark for 14 days, at a temperature of 25 ± 2 oc, and so transferred for the secondary callus growth, made with wpm salts, gamborg vitamins, 20 g l-1 of sucrose, 2 mg l-1 of 2,4 d; 0.3 mg l-1 of cinetin, 50 ml l-1 of coconut milk, 2.2 g l-1 of gelrite? and the ph adjusted to 5.8. callus formation occurred in all species. somatic embryos were obtained only for t. cacao. callus formation was influenced by genotype and was higher on staminodes.

Revista Cubana de Higiene y Epidemiolog?-a , 2005,
Abstract: arterial hypertension is a disorder of muticausal character, which determines the existance of different etiologic ways and obliges to evaluate the interactive effects of different variables on arterial pressure. the identification of the risk factors is an important task for its prevention, treatment and control. stress stands out among the factors that have been studied in relation to hypertensive disorders. however, there has been no consensus on the role of stress in arterial hypertension. that's why, on concluding an extensive theoretical review on this topic, we present in this paper some results of scientific researches supporting the role of stress in the genesis and evolution of arterial hypertension that evidence the need of incorporating actions connected with this aspect as part of the preventive strategies directed to modify the risk factors in the hypertensive patient.
