Application of the Cross Wavelet Transform to Solar Activity and Major Earthquakes Occurred in Chile  [PDF]
Patricia Alejandra Larocca
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2016.711095
Abstract: Historical earthquakes registered in Chile (from 1900 up to 2015) with epicenters located between 17?30'S and 56?0'S latitude and yearly mean total sunspot number have been considered in order to evaluate a significant linkage between them. The occurrence of strong earthquakes along Chile and the sunspots activity are analyzed to inspect possible influence of solar cycles on earthquakes. The cross wavelet transform and wavelet coherence analysis were applied for sequences of sunspots and earthquakes activity. An 8 - 12 years modulation of earthquakes activity has been identified.

Abstract: this paper aims to analyze some discussions about the notion of gender regarding feminist conceptualizations. it is assumed here that gender is a controversial notion that has driven the feminist theory into a theoretical jam.the uses of gender under the idea that we are in a particular situation facing patriarchal domination will be mapped. the patriarchy is deeply changed in this context, where neoliberal consensus and capitalist domination keep rising. the changes in the material conditions of existence, the increasing inequalities together with the simultaneous subordination of politics to economy plus the gap observed between theory and practice, have sensibly modify the theoretical and political feminist field. from this departure point it becomes necessary to revise and redefine some crucial theoretical notion like the one of gender that at the moment lay in a crossroad of many political and theoretical debates, while at the same time is subject to linguistics difficulties and the risks inherent to translation.

Abstract: this article aims to present the relation between visual arts, feminism i and metamorphosis. the feminist artistic practices portrayed in this article attempt to question categories inherited from the metaphor of sexual difference such as engendering, matrix and life. from this perspective, ars disyecta will establish a set of artistic practices and interventions that intend to interrupt the proper idea of ?feminine difference?. following this line of argument, i will discuss in this article a few contemporary feminist works of art that could be defined by words such as contagious, mutation and otherness.

Abstract: the fundamental myths of the conquest of america were based upon one fundamental principle: the existence of a region located on the fabulous equator strip. the need to find gold in those unknown regions was a major boost in the process of conquest and was one of the strongest motives, and perhaps the most important one. based on the concept ficciones de archivo proposed by roberto gonzalez echevarría (2000), this paper addresses how myths of conquest are updated in crónica de músicos y diablos (1985) written by gregorio martinez (nasca, 1942).
