Algunos fármacos continúan sometidos a ensayos experimentales y clínicos. There are many first and second generation antiepilectic drugs available in the international marked and also in Cuba. Epilepsia de la infancia con paroxismos occipitales
Pozo Alonso,Albia; Pozo Lauzán,Desiderio; Pozo Alonso,Desi;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 1999,
Abstract: is is reported that epilepsy of childhood with occipital paroxysms is an epileptic syndrome that is well defined. it is included in the group of related idiopathic epilepsies with localization. seizures habitually begin with visual symptoms, which are ocassionally followed by hemiclonic, complex partial, and generalized tonicclonic seizures. the interictal eeg shows spike-wave complexes of occipital and temporal posterior localization that are suppressed by eye opening. a patient aged 8 in whom the clinical and electroencephalographic criteria of epilepsy of childhood with occipital paroxysms are present is studied in this paper. emphasis is made on the apparently benign evolution of this syndrome.

Pozo Lauzán,Desiderio; Pozo Alonso,Albia J.;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 2001,
Abstract: the concepts and terms of epilepsy are updated according to the modifications proposed within the framework of the xxiv international congress of epilepsy held in the city of buenos aires, may 13-18, 2001. in this event, the proposal of a diagnostic scheme for persons with epilectic seizures and epilepsy was approved. this document has 5 parts or axes that are used for the diagnosis of epileptic seizures and epilepsy syndromes and for the identification of the cause and of the possible disorders connected with such condition. it was concluded that the approval of this diagnostic scheme of epilepsy is not considered as its classification and that it does not exclude the possibility to continue using some concepts of the present classification until a specific one be made.
Pozo Lauzán,Desiderio; Pozo Alonso,Albia J.;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 2005,
Abstract: the objective of this paper is to review the main second generation antiepileptic drugs and their administration in children: vigatrine, felbamate, lamotrigine, topiramate, tiagabine, oxcarbazepine, zonisamide, leventiracetam and stiripentol. at the beginning, they were recommended in adult patients with focal refractory epilepsies; however, their efficacy in different types of seizures in children has been proved for some years. lamotrigine and topiramate are considered drugs of wide spectrum. emphasis is made on metabolism, routes of elimination, indications, doses in children, drug interactions and side effects of the second generation antiepileptic drugs. some of the new drugs that are currently under study as antiepileptic and that constitute a third generation, are mentioned.
Pozo Lauzán,Desiderio; Pozo Alonso,Albia J;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 2008,
Abstract: the first description of absence seizures dates back to 1705. however, the lack of knowledge and confusion still persist as regards some aspects of concept, classification, terminology, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the different forms of epilepsies with absences. the fundamental purpose of this publication was to take into consideration the so-called idiopathic generalized epilepsies with absences in the clinical and electroencephalographic aspects. the topic was reviewed and updated.
Síndromes epilépticos focales
Pozo Alonso,Albia J.; Pozo Lauzán,Desiderio;
Revista Cubana de Pediatr?-a , 2004,
Abstract: in 2001, the working group for the classification and terminology of the international league against epilepsy proposed a diagnostic scheme for those persons with epileptic seizures or with epilepsy. the aim of this paper is to show the main characteristics of some of the focal epileptic syndromes proposed to be included in this diagnostic scheme, which has been designed in such a flexible way that will allow the inclusion of other epileptic syndromes in a future. according to this new diagnostic scheme, the focal epileptic syndromes are divided into family focal idiopathic syndromes, symptomatic focal epileptic syndromes and symptomatic or probably symptomatic focal epileptic syndromes.

The first description of absence seizures dates back to 1705.
