Family Education Improves Student's Academic Performance: Contributions from European Research
Ainhoa Flecha
REMIE : Multidisciplinary Journal of Educational Research , 2012,
Abstract: There is a wide body of literature about the relation between families’ education and students’ academic performance. Several contributions have focused its analysis on describing the gap between children of academic families and non-academic families, especially those with low socioeconomic status from underprivileged neighbourhoods. These kinds of conclusions have had an impact on educational actions which start from the point that children from non academic and underprivileged families are condemned to school failure. Findings from a large-scale European research project on schooling are refuting these conclusions. This research has provided evidences on those types of family and community participation that are contributing to educational success. This paper presents one of these types of participation, which is family education as a Successful Educational Action (SEA) that is improving students’ performance by creating learning spaces between families and students where cultural and educational interactions are shared. Data provided here illustrates how these interactions contribute to accelerate children’s learning.
Healthier Lives for European Minority Groups: School and Health Care, Lessons from the Roma

International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/ijerph10083089
Abstract: On average, the Roma in Europe can expect to die 10 years earlier than the rest of the population, given the health conditions they experience. EU-funded research has informed on successful actions (SA) that when implemented among the Roma provide them new forms of educational participation which have a direct impact on improving their health status, regardless of their educational level. The findings from this research, unanimously endorsed by the European Parliament, have been included in several European Union recommendations and resolutions as part of the EU strategy on Roma inclusion. To analyze these SA, as well as the conditions that promote them and their impact on reducing health inequalities, communicative fieldwork has been conducted with Roma people from a deprived neighbourhood in the South of Spain, who are participating in the previously identified SA. The analysis reveals that these SA enable Roma people to reinforce and enrich specific strategies like improving family cohesion and strengthening their identity, which allow them to improve their overall health. These findings may inform public policies to improve the health condition of the Roma and other vulnerable groups, one goal of the Europe 2020 strategy for a healthier Europe.

Clínica y Salud , 2006,
Abstract: this paper explores neosexism during adolescence and its relationships with psychopathological symptoms and personality traits. the purpose of this study is three-fold: 1) to assess possible gender differences in neosexism, 2) to study the concomitant relationships between neosexism and psychopathological symptoms, behavioural problems, personality traits, cooperativeness, social skills, self-esteem/self-concept, and feelings of happiness, and 3) to identify the predictive variables of high neosexism. the sample consists of 322 adolescents aged 14 to 17. the study uses a correlational methodology. nine instruments were used for the assessment of variables. anova results showed gender differences in neosexism, with significantly higher scores in males. pearson coefficients suggested that adolescents of both genders with high neosexism have many psychopathological symptoms (including phobic anxiety, psychoticism and total positive symptoms), many behavioural problems (academic and social adjustment difficulties), low self-concept, low level of cooperativeness, low level of social skills, high overconfidence, jealous loneliness, low emotional stability, low sociability, and low responsibility. multiple regression analyses allowed the identification of the following variables as predictive of neosexism: high overconfidence, low level of cooperativeness, and low social adjustment. the role played by intervention programs promoting socialization and gender equality in the prevention of sexism is also discussed.

Saitua Iriba, Ainhoa

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to carry out an approach to the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the content in the virtual forums used as a complement to the university lessons. After defining the base criteria of the assessment process, the forums developed in three subjects (215 students) are analyzed. The results show the need to distinguish between quantitative and qualitative results in relation to their impact on assessing the level of competence; they also suggest the importance of the didactic design of the subject in the evolution of the communicative and social competences of the students’ participations.

Psychology, Society & Education , 2009,
Abstract: The current debates about competencies that we can find in the forums, agendas and documents along our country, where yet held during the nineties in the European Union. Although, the core of the international debate is being, more recently, centered in the success actions that are managing to develop these competencies in all the students from an approach that go through the boundaries of the school and that involve families and the community in the whole process, from its elaboration until its development. The contributions of the International Scientific Community are entering in interaction with the experience of social agents, especially those belonging to vulnerable groups such as the Roma. We can find one of this possible processes that facilitate this interaction inthe case of a school where, through a Dialogic Inclusion Contract (DIC), has been transformed in a Learning Community where success educational practices are being applied. From the INCLUD-ED research this experience is being analyzed pointing out as the principalconclusions the overcoming of academic results and coexistence.

Tutoría on-line en el entorno universitario On-line tutoring at university: a proposal for the sequencing of electronic tools
Ainhoa Ezeiza Ramos
Comunicar , 2007,
The main idea of this paper is to propose a way for planning some electronic tools which are currently present in e-learning platforms. Every step of the proposal is illustrated by a real example of students from the Education Degree Course or Psycho- Education Postgraduate Course of The University of The Basque Country. Thus, an attempt is made to offer a way to reflect on the planning and management of the online tutoring of the subject.
Words on finite nilpotent groups of class 2
Ainhoa Iniguez Goizueta
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: Let $G$ be a finite nilpotent group of class at most $2$, and let $w=w(x_1,\ldots,x_n)$ be a group word in $n$ variables. Then we prove that the number of solutions in $G\times\overset{n}{\cdots}\times G$ to the equation $w=1$ is at least $|G|^{n-1}$. This result, also independently obtained bt Matthew Levy [L], solves a special case of a conjecture of Alon Amit.
