Abstract: the cost in pharmaceutical products comes anywhere in the world growing from remarkable form and esteem that is a tendency that increases. the publicity goes, more and more, to the incitación of the drug consumption of free sale; generating realistic expectations little on the benefits of the medication and one it demands unsuitable of this one. a problem difficult to approach and to solve. patients, social professionals of the health and works we must work altogether to implement measures with the purpose of maximizing a positive aspect of the publicity, increasing the use of the medicines from which they would benefit more probably, and simultaneously to diminish risks.

Abstract: El gasto en productos farmacéuticos viene creciendo de forma notable en todo el mundo y se estima que es una tendencia que va en aumento. La publicidad se dirige, cada vez más, a la incitación del consumo de drogas de venta libre; generando expectativas poco realistas sobre los beneficios de la medicación y una demanda inapropiada de ésta. Un problema difícil de abordar y solucionar. Pacientes, profesionales de la salud y obras sociales debemos trabajar en conjunto para implementar medidas con el fin de maximizar un aspecto positivo de la Publicidad , aumentar el uso de los medicamentos de los que más se beneficiarían probablemente, y a la vez minimizar las preocupaciones sobre la seguridad y los gastos innecesarios en usos inapropiados. Spontaneous internal desynchronization of locomotor activity and body temperature rhythms from plasma melatonin rhythm in rats exposed to constant dim light

Abstract: Rats were maintained in a temperature controlled (23–24°C) ventilated lightproof room under LLdim (red dim light 1 μW/cm2 [5 Lux], lower wavelength cutoff at 640 nm). Animals were individually housed in cages equipped with a running wheel and a magnetic sensor system to detect wheel rotation; Tb was monitored by telemetry. Tb and Rw data were recorded in 5-min bins and saved on disk. For each animal, we determined the mesor and the amplitude of the Rw and Tb rhythm using waveform analysis on 7-day segments of the data. After sixty days of LLdim exposure, blood samples (80–100 μM) were collected every 4 hours over a 24-hrs period from the tail artery, and serum melatonin levels were measured by radioimmunoassay.Twenty-one animals showed clear circadian rhythms Rw and Tb, whereas one animal was arrhythmic. Rw and Tb rhythms were always strictly associated and we did not observe desynchronization between these two rhythms. Plasma melatonin levels showed marked variations among individuals in the peak levels and in the night-to-day ratio. In six rats, the night-to-day ratio was less than 2, whereas in the rat that showed arrhythmicity in Rw and Tb melatonin levels were high and rhythmic with a large night-to-day ratio. In seven animals, serum melatonin levels peaked during the subjective day (from CT0 to CT8), thus suggesting that in these animals the circadian rhythm of serum melatonin desynchronized from the circadian rhythms of Rw and Tb. No significant correlation was observed between the amplitude (or the levels) of the melatonin profile and the amplitude and mesor of the Rw and Tb rhythms.Our data indicate that the free-running periods (τ) and the amplitude of Rw and Tb were not different between desynchronized and non-desynchronized rats, thus suggesting that the circadian rhythm of serum melatonin plays a marginal role in the regulation of the Rw and Tb rhythms. Abstract: mercury is a metallic element that has been listed as a hazardous material because of the severe damage it causes to health and the environment. inhalation of mercury vapor for an extended period causes mercury poisoning, which is a disease characterized by tremors erethism fine. in dentistry, mercury is used for the preparation of amalgams used in the restoration of carious teeth treated. poisoning in dental offices, is generally caused by a chronic exposure to mercury vapor and occurs for not taking precautions when handling the metal in the process leading to the preparation of amalgam. it has been shown that good dental work practices reduce levels of mercury in urine associated with behavioral disorders. the american dental association (ada) believes that the risks of mercury exposure in the work of dentistry are limited if the personnel working in that area meets the standards of existing mercury hygiene.

Abstract: El mercurio es un elemento metálico que ha sido catalogado como un material peligroso debido a los graves da os que ocasiona a la salud y al ambiente. La inhalación de vapor de mercurio por un periodo prolongado causa el mercurialismo, el cual es una enfermedad que se caracteriza por temblores finos y eretismo. En odontología, el mercurio es utilizado para la elaboración de las amalgamas empleadas en la restauración de los dientes tratados por caries. La intoxicación en los consultorios dentales, generalmente es de carácter crónico causada por la exposición prolongada a vapores de mercurio y ocurre por no tomar las precauciones durante la manipulación del metal en el proceso previo a la preparación de amalgama. Se ha demostrado que las buenas prácticas en el trabajo odontológico reducen los niveles de mercurio en la orina relacionados con afecciones del comportamiento. La Asociación Dental Americana (ADA) considera que los riesgos de exposición mercurial en el trabajo de Odontología son escasos si el personal que trabaja en dicha área cumple con las normas de higiene mercurial existentes. Nutritional Value of Italian Pistachios from Bronte ( Pistacia vera, L.), Their Nutrients, Bioactive Compounds and Antioxidant Activity  [PDF]

Abstract: This study gives an overview on the nutritional value, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity (ABTS and FRAP) of Bronte’s pistachio (Pistacia vera, L., cv. Bianca) from Sicily (Italy). Bronte’s pistachios are rich in fat, protein, dietary fiber, trace elements (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn) and minerals (Ca, P, K, Mg, Na). Lipids mainly consist of MUFA (33.8 g/100g), primarily oleic acid (32.4 g/ 100g); PUFA is mostly represented by linoleic acid (7.49 g/100g). Bronte’s pistachios are also a valuable source of bioactive compounds such as total polyphenols (501.5 mg/100g), lutein (1.26 mg/100g), β-carotene (0.18 mg/100g), γ-tocopherol (19.2 mg/100g) and phytosterols (134.4 mg/100g). Among phytosterols, the main is β-sitosterol (86% of total content), followed by Δ5-avenasterol (6.3%). Phytic acid content is 1763 mg/100g; Ins(1,2,4,5,6)P5 and Ins(1,2,3,4,5,)P5 have been detected too (31 mg/100g and 10 mg/100g, respectively). The antioxidant activity was determined both in hydrophilic and lipophilic fraction of pistachios, showing >80% of the total antioxidant activity in the hydrophilic, predominately due to phenolic compounds.
ZyFISH: A Simple, Rapid and Reliable Zygosity Assay for Transgenic Mice

Abstract: Microinjection of DNA constructs into fertilized mouse oocytes typically results in random transgene integration at a single genomic locus. The resulting transgenic founders can be used to establish hemizygous transgenic mouse lines. However, practical and experimental reasons often require that such lines be bred to homozygosity. Transgene zygosity can be determined by progeny testing assays which are expensive and time-consuming, by quantitative Southern blotting which is labor-intensive, or by quantitative PCR (qPCR) which requires transgene-specific design. Here, we describe a zygosity assessment procedure based on fluorescent in situ hybridization (zyFISH). The zyFISH protocol entails the detection of transgenic loci by FISH and the concomitant assignment of homozygosity using a concise and unbiased scoring system. The method requires small volumes of blood, is scalable to at least 40 determinations per assay, and produces results entirely consistent with the progeny testing assay. This combination of reliability, simplicity and cost-effectiveness makes zyFISH a method of choice for transgenic mouse zygosity determinations.
Estudio histopatológico sobre el efecto de una nueva formulación de alendronato administrado por vía subcutánea

Abstract: previous studies have shown that aminobisfosfonatos, such as alendronate sodium is a potent inhibitor of bone resorption, increases bone mineral density and reduce the risk of fractures in postmenopausal women. the objective of this study was to investigate and develop a new formulation based on alendronate, to be placed in subcutaneously in the surgical site. materials and methods: the pharmaceutical formula was prepared with a dosage of 0.5 mg / kg, he added buffer special, with a final ph of 5.5 means sterile. the control buffers were no active ingredients. the effect of alendronate was evaluated in male wistar rats (9 weeks of age and weighing 176-214 g, n = 8 per group), which were divided into two groups and one control another problem, the drug is injected in the form subcutaneous times 0, 7, 14 and 30 days. the animals were anesthetized with a solution of ketamine / xilazina. we performed in the tibia incisions were not filled. all animals were sacrificed by overdose with ether. the parameters studied were watching histopathologic evaluation infiltration of inflammatory cells (ici), the number and morphology of osteoclasts, gaps reabsorption (surface of the osteoclast) and osteoclast activity. statistical analysis was performed with the chi-square test. results: the available data do not reveal any statistically significant difference between the control group and the group with regard to alendronate (ici), number of osteoclasts and osteoblástica activity. in terms of the morphology of osteoclasts, gaps reabsoción (surface of the osteoclast) and osteoclast activity, the statistics were significant differences between the two groups, favoring the group that used alendronate. tissue oseo in remodeled, with trabeculae containing osteoblasts with osteocitos viable and important activity osteoblastica and osteoplastica. as for the activity of alkaline phosphatase statistics were glaring differences between the groups. the values were even varying with the day's t

Abstract: diverse studies have demonstrated that the related problems to medicines (prms) originate of errors in the prescription and the adverse reactions that repel in negative effects on the health. objective: to analyze the use of the local anesthetic (al) actually odontological and to identify problems related to its use. materials and methods: study of observacional, crosssectional type. they were analyzed: clinical effectiveness of the a and the adverse reactions to medicines (ram). data were collected about: time of injection, time of latency and scale of the pain actually clinical odontologica on patients. results: in the times of injection there were no differences; yes there was between dixcaína and the rest in time of latency. in the pain scale, there was no pain for dixcaína and there was moderate pain for carticaína. conclusions: the valuation and pursuit of the problems related to the medicine use mean a direct benefit for the society.
