Dagatti,María Susana; Bertola Compagnucci,Agustina; Pezzotto,Stella Maris;
Revista chilena de nutrición , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-75182011000100002
Abstract: a case-control study was carried out in order to analyze the association between diet and risk of non melanoma skin cancer -basal cell carcinoma (bcc) and squamous cell carcinoma (scc), with adjustments for demographic, anthropometric and phenotypic characteristics, sunburns history, skin cancerfamily history, sun-exposure history and skin sensitivity to sun exposure. a full-body skin examination was performed. dietary data were obtained applying a standardized semi-quantitative questionnaire of consumption frequency. cases (n=27; age: 65,5+15,1 years) and controls (n=37; age: 63,9+12,3 years) were attended at the same facilities. a decreased risk ofbcc and scc tumors (adjusted odd ratio=0.10; ic 95%= 0.02-0.63; p=0.01) was found for high intakes of green leafy vegetables (more than 40 gr/day). however, results obtained for fruits, cruciferous, vitamin a and carotene-rich vegetables and other vegetables were not statistically significant.
HáBITOS ALIMENTARIOS Y RIESGO DE CANCER DE PIEL NO MELANOMA DIET AND RISK OF NON MELANOMA SKIN CANCER

A case-control study was carried out in order to analyze the association between diet and risk of non melanoma skin cancer -basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), with adjustments for demographic, anthropometric and phenotypic characteristics, sunburns history, skin cancerfamily history, sun-exposure history and skin sensitivity to sun exposure.
Desalvo,Agustina;
Mundo agrario , 2011,
Abstract: it is often said that santiago del estero concentrates a large number of farmers. in this paper, we present a first approach to the subject in order to begin to demystify the idea. to do this, we use data obtained from the familiar characterization form prepared by proinder in 2009 - implemented by the secretariat for family agriculture and rural development, delegation santiago del estero- and interviews conducted in villages of atamisqui department in april 2010. the form used allows us, among other things, measure the weight that have different sources of income in total household income. this, together with the evidence gathered in interviews, allows us to know how live analyzed families. it notes that the most important support comes from the seasonal employee working developed in different rural activities (though especially in the deflowering of corn and harvesting blueberries) and various transfers (pensions, social benefits, remittances). these data would indicate, in this particular case, that the subject usually characterized as farmer hides, in reality, the atamisque?a rural working class.
Massigoge,Agustina;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2007,
Abstract: this article presents the preliminary results of the study of the formation processes at cortaderas site (san cayetano district, buenos aires province), specifically those processes related to the formation of the faunal assemblage recovered in the geological unit ii and in the upper section of unit iii. unit ii is composed of sediments related to an ancient floodplain, and a radiocarbon date from a fragmented bone places the unit within the late holocene period. the main objective of this work is to identify the cultural and natural processes that participated in the formation of the faunal assemblage. the zooarchaeological analysis supports the anthropic utilization of animal resources at the site, particularly guanaco (lama guanicoe) and, secondly, pampean deer (ozotoceros bezoarticus). although a large number of armadillo plates and specimens of other taxa were recovered, there is no strong evidence for their exploitation. the faunal remains present a high degree of fragmentation. root action and burrowing animals appear to be the main natural agents responsible for the fragmentation. another possible contributing factor to the high degree of fragmentation is anthropic processing.
Massigoge,Agustina;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2012,
Abstract: the frequency of late holocene archaeological sites from the pampas region is higher when compared with previous periods. however, the sites corresponding to the early late holocene are scarce. in this context, the site of las brusquillas 1, located in the interserrana area and dated to ca. 3.300 years bp, becomes especially relevant for regional archaeology. the results from the technological and morphological analysis of the lithic material and the taxonomic and anatomical study of the faunal remains are presented in this paper. the objectives are to discuss the technology and subsistence of the hunter-gatherer groups that occupied the site and to contribute to the explanation of its function. the results from las brusquillas 1 show that quartzite was the preferred raw material for the manufacturing of unifacial tools, and that the main animal resource exploited was guanaco (lama guanicoe), in concurrence with archaeological evidences from other sites of similar chronology located in the interserrana area. in relation to functionality, the evidence indicates that lb1 represents a residential camp.

La construcción social de la enfermedad
Lejarraga,Agustina;
Archivos argentinos de pediatr?-a , 2004,
Abstract: in the nature there is not a thing like a disease, but a biological event recognisable only as a discontinuity within a continuous process. the disease can only be perceived as such by the perception of a person. without the human eye, the event is senseless. only the human being and the society can categorise an event as a disease. this concept is the result of a social construction and deserves here a sociological perspective. the idea of disease is built within the doctor-patient relationship, a bond in which self-assigned roles and expectations are created. medicine is a cultural response to disease, it legitimates the condition of being ill and handicapped. several schools consider disease as a legitimate deviation, as long as it is assumed that the patient has no responsibility for his/her own condition. on the contrary, in the case that responsibility is proved, then the disease is no longer legitimate, and may be categorised as "inmoral", as it happens with hiv infection. another aspect to be considered is the different qualifications that disease may have, according to the social class of the subject. physicians should be aware of the social meaning of disease, because this can help them to deal with the greatest challenge of medical practice: to consider the patient as a person, to see him/her as another subject, rather than as an object of knowledge.
Altman,Agustina;
Runa , 2011,
Abstract: in the late 70's a movement known as evangelio began to gain relevance among mocoví communities, first in the province of chaco and later among communities located in santa fe. our research aims to reconstruct the historical conformation of the evangelio field among the mocoví of southwest chaco. in order to better understand the mechanisms involved in this process, we analyze the specific modes of conversion to the evangelio adopted by this aboriginal group. the analysis of native patterns shows that -in different areas- the mocoví deploy a contextual and strategic notion of membership. this same logic, which enables them to play with symbolic ambiguity, permeates the ideas of "being in the evangelio" or not.

CONCEPTUALIZING STATE STRENGTH: MOVING BEYOND STRONG AND WEAK STATES Conceptualizando la fortaleza del Estado: Más allá de los estados débiles o fuertes
AGUSTINA GIRAUDY
Revista de Ciencia Política , 2012,
Abstract: The strength of states has long been regarded by the specialized literature as an important factor to guarantee the viability of different political and economic phenomena such as democratic consolidation, the rule of law, adequate provision of basic public goods, and economic growth. Despite the importance of state strength, only few scholarly works have systematically explored the definition and the constitutive dimensions of this concept. This article seeks to (a) refine the conceptualization of state strength, (b) increase awareness about the effects of different rules of aggregation for achieving differentiation among empirical cases (i.e., countries), and (c) provide conceptual tools to help analysts move beyond the classical dichotomy of strong states versus weak states.
