Abstract: this study analyses relationship among several psychological variables as personality traits, personal values and emotional climate with emigrational intentions and migratory behavior of high and middle-class students and young professionals from peru. in that sense, three groups of participants were compared: those who do not want to emigrate (n=33), those who want to emigrate (n=33) and those who already had emigrated (n=33). related to personality, trait of consciousness is inversely associated to intention of emigrate and emigrational behavior. on the other hand, values directly associated to emigrational intentions were those that belong to self-enhancement and openness to change objectives meanwhile values inversely associated to these intentions were the conservative ones. emotional climate perceptions showed a complex tendency that influences emigrational intentions. however, based on our data, it is difficult to identify specific influences from specific types of emotional climates in emigrational processes. finally, considering the social and economic characteristics of the sample, it is suggested that reasons that influence migration processes are more individualistic -associated to personality traits and values- than collectivistic -associated to emotional climate.
Maximising Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition in Spanish as a Foreign Language  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents a study designed to contribute some evidence for incidental vocabulary acquisition in the foreign language. Finding the most effective approach to vocabulary learning and teaching has occupied researchers intensively. This is a small scale study in which the lexical learning of 52 Italian learners of Spanish as a foreign language is tested. Learners are submitted to three conditions with different requirements (output vs. input, multiple exposures vs. target word usage, meaning comparison and selection vs. message production), but in all three, vocabulary is learned in an incidental way and with a lexical learning condition present in the task. Results point to lack of statistical differences in lexical gains among the three interventions. From this finding, it might be assumed that it is not the nature of the manipulation, input or output, multiple exposures, or target word usage, but complying with any condition for lexical learning that plays a determining role in lexical acquisition.

Abstract: when academics and social agents use categories such as prostitution, sex tourism and 'trafficking', they erase the diversity of projects and impulses that are found among people who travel to work, who facilitate travels to work and who live from the sex trade. this erasing in turn reproduces stigmatizing and controlling discourses that justify interventions by those who want to 'help' but who understand very little of what actually goes on in the ground during migration processes. these discourses also fail to examine how europeans participate in migration questions: tourists who want to enjoy their holidays, who may become fond of 'natives' and who more and more often wish to pay others for domestic, caring and sexual services in europe.

Abstract: starting from a theoretical background, essentially founded on the behavior determining function of the central nervous system, we propose and substantiate five doctrinal proposals which are linked to the nature and applicability of professional competencies in the educational environment; these are: 1. competence is a physiological state. 2. competence components are mental and motosensorials. 3. professional competence is established by responsibility limits. 4. competences are acquired through their components. 5. nature of competence components guides planning of teaching process. we discuss how neurophysiological fundamentals of the learning process can provide a fruitful approach in connection with competence based formation and become a guide in planning and performing of concrete teaching activities.

Abstract: abraham flexner was a remarkable educator who devoted most of his teaching work to the improvement of the american medical education and his works have practically influenced the medical education worldwide. the present article provides some biographical data on this figure and makes an analysis of the significance of his work and the validity of some of his recommendations; it also analyzes the main critiques and limitations about his work. the importance of flexner′s works for those people interested in such a dynamic field like the formation of physicians and other human resources in health sciences is also underlined.

Abstract: there are longstanding traditions in the social sciences which have explored the complex relationships between working class and peronism. the research critical aproximation on this problem is considerably large, but unbalanced. most studies primarily focused their analysis to the "origins", relegating the approach to the theme during the first two peronist governments. however, in recent years, it seems that this imbalance is beginning to be reversed. in a line of continuity with these latest research and regional studies, we considered very important to make a historical reconstruction of the relationship between working class and peronism: the strikes that took place in the city between 1946 and 1948. as a hypothesis, we believe that in this context there was a high "autonomous" mobilization of the working masses that corresponded to a sharp dispute to lead the movement between different political and ideological configurations. in this research, we intend to revisit and review the old and new interpretations of this difficult relationship.
La integración de conocimientos en la educación médica

Abstract: nowadays the importance of knowledge integration attainment in medical education is widely accepted. nevertheless the lack of precision regarding the terminological and methodological aspects of such a relevant subject is contradictory. this situation has given rise to a misunderstanding that manifests itself in the components of the curriculum affecting consequently the development of intellectual skills by students. in the present paper a conceptual and methodological approximation to the challenging subject of knowledge integration is done. we propose an essential distinction between the objective and subjective sides of knowledge integration, their different methodological meaning, as well as the advantages and shortcomings of privileging one or the other in teaching practice. as conclusion we consider that knowledge integration, in its subjective side, is of paramount importance in the formation of health professionals and we propose some recommendation regarding this goal.

Abstract: objective: to assess the application of an integrated curriculum model for the medical career in walter sisulu university. methods: a structured observation of the integrated teaching plan in relation to the solution of health problems was made. the curriculum was described making emphasis on basic sciences. the advantageous or disadvantageous aspects of this plan were evaluated. results: the development of self-training and communication skills, the formulation and assessment of judgments and hypotheses, the early contact with clinical and epidemiologic topics, and the participation in different learning activities in the community were stressed as positive elements. the high number of professors required for tutelary activities, the limited assimilation of systematizing cognitive elements, and the organizational difficulties are some of the inconveniences observed. conclusions: as a whole, it is a very interesting model and a pedagogical experience worthy to be known and spread.

Abstract: in order to study the current restructuring processes in both venezuelan agri-food industry and venezuelan oils and fats industry, the first part of this work refers to tendencies that stand out within the international context as a consequence of the opening and integration economic process. in the second part, using the analytic axes made up of cargill, unilever, nestlé, mavesa and polar industries, the restructuring business process which has occurred in the comestible fat and oil branches of the industries is analyzed. the result of the analysis indicates that since the economic opening and integration were adopted by the venezuelan government, the process of business restructuring has intensified and, consequently, the corresponding index of concentration of these food industries has intensified. in the third part, the implications of this phenomena were analyzed on the complex of fat and oils sector, in particular in the agricultural sector, imports, consumption and also, food security.

Abstract: this work has been carried out to analyze the transformation which is occurring in the venezuela urban distribution system as a consequence of the conception and development of the public enterprise, called mercal. in order to carry out this objective, it was first necessary to present the theoretical-conceptual framework that oriented its development. secondly, the context within which this state business came about is discussed. then, the transformations that were produced in the referred to system were analyzed and at the same time, the implications of the presence of mercal for the local economic agents in this system were determined. finally, an interpretation of the mercal ?phenomena? is proposed within the previously established theoretical framework.
