Home range and movements of male translocated problem tigers in Sumatra

Abstract: The ranging behaviour of translocated problem tigers is poorly understood. The demand for releasing problem tigers back to the wild increases following the increasing the number of problem tigers that needs to be rescued in Sumatra in the last decade. In this study we estimate the home range size and obtain information on daily range of four translocated problem tigers, as well as discussing some potential factors determining the size of home range and their movement. We translocated four adult males Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) caught after killing domestic animals or rescued from traps set up by villagers for capturing deer and wild boar. The tigers were released following 16-225 days rehabilitation. All were fitted with global positioning system collars and released 74-1,350 km from their capture site. The length of time needed by each tiger for establishing home range was between 6 and 13 weeks. The home range size of each individual tiger estimated with 100% minimum convex polygon varies between 67.1 km2 and 400 km2, while estimations with a 95% fixed kernel methods were between 37.5 km2 and 188.1 km2. The difference in home range size established by each translocated tigers indicates the variability of the range size even within a subspecies. The maximum distance moved each tiger in one day was different, the range was 8.5-18.9 km. Although preliminary, these data may be useful for improving future translocation of problem tiger, as this study was the first ever conducted in Sumatra.
Mathematical Modeling of The Effect of Boosting Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocyte in Immunotherapy

Abstract: This study, we analyzed the effect of boosting tumor infiltrating lymphocyte in immunotherapy using mathematical modeling. In this model, tumor growth is described as a tumor cells population with immunotherapy. This model also describes the effect of Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TIL), interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interferon alpha (INF-α) on dynamics of tumor cells. Numerical modeling of immunotherapy with or not boosted Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) are presented in this study. We obtained that boosting Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) in immunotherapy have a very significant role in killing of tumor cells.

Abstract: It is known that a beneficial tumour-treatment approach for a single patient often involves the administration of more than one type of therapy. The question of how best to combine multiple tumour therapies is still open. In this research, we investigate the theoretical interaction of three treatment types (two biological therapies and chemotherapy). We analyse a mathematical model, in the form of a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), governing tumour growth on a cell-population level with combination immunotherapy and chemotherapy. We present an ordinary differential equations model to look at overall cell populations. Numerical simulation immune-sequence and human parameter are presented. We study and compare between result of numerical simulations immunotherapy alone, chemotherapy alone and immunotherapy-chemotherapy sequence treatments. The success of every treatment depends on the initial of tumour cells population. With the same population of tumour cells, our study shows that immunotherapy-chemotherapy sequence is more effective than immunotherapy alone or chemotherapy alone.

Biodiversitas 13: 79-85. Harvesting quota of long-tailed macaques for breeding purpose should be set up based on demographic parameters. The objectives of this research were to determine demographic parameters affecting the set up of harvesting quota and the sustainable harvesting quotas of long-tailed macaca in Indonesia. This study was expected to provide useful information for consideration of setting up harvesting quotas for long-tailed macaque in Indonesia. This study was conducted in November 2009-Januari 2010 using the equation of Q = Nt-MVP. The results showed varied harvesting quotas for different age classes of long-tailed macaque with an average number of 5 for infant males, 3 for infant females, 5 for juvenile males, 4 for juvenile females, 6 for sub-adult males, 8 for sub-adult females and 2 for adult males. The dominant variable determining quota was survival rate.
Development of dynamics and synchronization model for coupled neurons using Hindmarsh-Rose model

Abstract: This paper presents development of dynamics and synchronization of coupledneurons using the Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model. Time-scales of both slow-fastvariables are added to reduce the number of simulation time. By this method, wecan analyze different pattern of synchronization of two systems by givingdelayed-times in fast variable and different time-scales in slow variable. Sigmoidfunction is applied to combine two neurons that have a synapses strength aschemical coupled. Delayed-times signal propagations between nerve cells madegap oscillating motion and offset by time time-scales in slow. In biologicallyrelevant gap time signal propagation relatively small, we applied to our simulationexperimental study. Meanwhile synapses strength exhibited joining the twoneurons via diffusive synapse. In larger network systems this number is slightlysmall needed to make information transmitted surely inter neuron.Synchronization appearing both two neurons coupled and completesynchronization by increasing number of synapse strength. Moreover,synchronization both slow and fast systems are characterized separately.

Abstract: We discussed a mechanism that allows the universe to start from lower dimension ($d < 4$) in its very early era and evolves to four dimension at the end of the process. The mechanism is generated by a nonminimal derivative coupling of scalar field, where derivative terms of the scalar field coupled to curvature tensor. We solve the Einstein equations for a limit of large and nearly constant Hubble parameter and analyze the evolution of the Hubble parameter in this limit. The lower-dimensionality in early universe has advantages in the context of unification theory.

Abstract: Total Goitre Rate (TGR) among School children at endemic goitre areas in 4 provinces of Java island (West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta and East Java provinces) was studied in 1980 and 1987. A total of 26,516 school children in 1980 and 14837 school children in 1987from 113 villages of 14 sub-districts in 4 provinces were included for analysis. The age of the school children was ranging from 6 to 14 years old. The villages were not representative for either sub-district or province. It was found that TGR in 1980 was above 29% in all provinces. In 1987, only TGR in Yogyakarta province decreased to the level regarded no longer a public health problem (TGR < 5%) while TGR is still high in the other three provinces (West Java, Central Java and East Java). The category of severe endemic goitre (TGR-30%) was reduced in 1987 compared with the number in 1980 in all provices. Considering gender, it was found from the 1987 data that GR amongst girls was higher than amongst boys. There was no information available about the implementation of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). Control programs on TGR was partly due to iodised oil injection since performance of iodised salt program was low.
A Nonstandard Finite Difference Scheme for SIS Epidemic Model with Delay: Stability and Bifurcation Analysis  [PDF]

Abstract: A numerical scheme for a SIS epidemic model with a delay is constructed by applying a nonstandard finite difference (NSFD) method. The dynamics of the obtained discrete system is investigated. First we show that the discrete system has equilibria which are exactly the same as those of continuous model. By studying the distribution of the roots of the characteristics equations related to the linearized system, we can provide the stable regions in the appropriate parameter plane. It is shown that the conditions for those equilibria to be asymptotically stable are consistent with the continuous model for any size of numerical time-step. Furthermore, we also establish the existence of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation (also called Hopf bifurcation for map) which is controlled by the time delay. The analytical results are confirmed by some numerical simulations.

Abstract: This paper intends to explore the spatial concept of Chinese Architecture in Surabaya which was built prior 1945. The arrival of Chinese people decades ago brought along diverse culture that permeates the local Indonesian culture and once the Chinese settled down, the on-going cultural dialogue started to influence the Chinese in return. Most importantly, this cultural exchange process allowed the Chinese to introduce their own spatial architectural concept, which seems prescriptive, that applied to all buildings typology, starting from house, temple and the palace. In Surabaya context, the Chinese fixed-prescriptive spatial architectural concept observed to deviate from norm. Hence, this paper intends to explore this phenomenon comparing Surabaya’s Chinese spatial architectural concept, represented by temples, prayer houses as well as houses built prior 1945 era, to the Chinese original spatial concept. This research hopes to conclude that the main difference between the two is the absence of light well which known as Tien Ching which was originally located in the middle of the building in all Chinese Architecture in Surabaya.
