Costa, Adson do Socorro Sá;Leite, José Alberto Dias;Melo, Francisco Erivan Abreu;Guimar?es, Sérgio Botelho;
Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-86502006000400005
Abstract: purpose: to determine biomechanical properties of the superior labrum-biceps tendon complex submitted to continuous and sudden mechanical strain. methods: eighteen shoulder specimens from 15 unclaimed corpses, ages ranging from 20 to 40 years, were submitted to continuous or sudden tensile tests using 3 different traction machines. shoulders presenting signs of degenerative diseases or preexisting traumatic lesions were excluded. results: rupture of the distal portion of the long hand of the biceps occurred when stretching forces reached 290n in continuous traction and 384n in sudden traction. no labral-complex lesions were observed. conclusion: either a simple continuous or a sudden uniaxial traction of the arm do not play a role in the genesis of superior labrum anterior-posterior (slap) lesions in the shoulder joint. produce

Abstract: antiphospholipid syndrome (aps), more common in females, manifests clinically as thrombosis and/or recurrent fetal loss. hemolytic autoimmune anemia and neurological, cardiac and cutaneous manifestations are common. this is the case report of a male patient whose first manifestation of the disease was gangrene of the auricle. the diagnosis of aps was established by biopsy of the lower limb skin, which showed thrombotic vasculopathy with no evidence of vasculitis. this is one of the two major criteria, which, along with a minor criterion, establishes the diagnosis of aps. possible differential diagnoses are discussed. the importance of the biopsy in the aps diagnosis of this male patient is emphasized.

Abstract: The Brazilian Northeast area is known for the caprineculture,whose main problem is the gastrointestinal nematodes, and thecontrol of the parasites has been jeopardized by the anthelminticresistance. The purpose of this study was to verify the sensibilityof the goat nematodes to the activity of the substances ivermectin1% and albendazole 10%. The work was carried out in 30 goatherds located in the city of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil,within January and November, 2008. In each property, 45 animalswere selected and divided into three groups (one control and twotreatments). The geographical coordinates of all the properties wereobtained by GPS. The obtained data were analyzed by the statisticalprogram RESO. The animals received the vermifude and 10 daysafter-treatment feces were collected. In the studied properties, theHaemonchus contortus showed greater prevalence in all the treatedgroups, 90% of the helmints population was resistant to albendazoleand 36.6% to ivermectina. Trichostrongylus sp. was found in 70%of the properties and its percentile of the helmint population resistantto ivermectina and to albendazole was of 33.3% and 42.8%,respectively. The reduction in the egg counting in the feces (RECF)after 10 days of treatment with ivermectina and albendazole variedwithin 43% and 100%, and within 29% to 100%, respectively. Theprofile of the properties demonstrated that the anthelmintic mostcommonly used were from the following groups: benzimidazol(63.3%), ivermectin (33.3%), and imidazol (3.3%).

Keywords: Marguerite Duras; India song; space.

Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/am.2018.99071
Let G be a primitive strongly regular graph of order n and A is adjacency matrix. In this paper we first associate to A a real 3-dimensional Euclidean Jordan algebra?\"\" with rank three spanned by In and the natural powers of A that is a subalgebra of the Euclidean Jordan algebra of symmetric matrix of order n. Next we consider a basis?\"\" that is a Jordan frame of \"\". Finally, by an algebraic asymptotic analysis of the second spectral decomposition of some Hadamard series associated to A we establish some inequalities over the spectra and over the parameters of a strongly regular graph.

Abstract: This work presents a method for segmentation of the left ventricle in dynamic 2D-echo 4-chamber long-axis images over the complete cardiac cycle. The proposed algorithm is based on classic image processing techniques, including time-averaging and wavelet-based denoising, edge enhancement filtering, morphological operations, homotopy modification, and watershed segmentation. The proposed method is semi-automatic, requiring a single user intervention for identification of the position of the mitral valve in the first temporal frame of the video sequence. Image segmentation is performed on a set of dynamic 2D-echo images collected from an examination covering two consecutive cardiac cycles.The proposed method is demonstrated and evaluated on twelve healthy volunteers. The results are quantitatively evaluated using four different metrics, in a comparison with contours manually segmented by a specialist, and with four alternative methods from the literature. The method's intra- and inter-operator variabilities are also evaluated.The proposed method allows the automatic construction of the area variation curve of the left ventricle corresponding to a complete cardiac cycle. This may potentially be used for the identification of several clinical parameters, including the area variation fraction. This parameter could potentially be used for evaluating the global systolic function of the left ventricle.Two-dimensional echocardiography (2D-echo) allows the evaluation of cardiac structures and their movements, so that anatomic and functional characteristics may be assessed. The analysis of left ventricular function is extremely important in echocardiographic examinations, since a wide range of clinical diagnoses are based on the performance of this chamber [1]. This evaluation is typically performed by manual segmentation of the left ventricular cavity, in which a specialist delineates the blood-endocardial interface in a series of dynamic images. This process is laborious and
