Roberto Zwetsch
Caminhando , 2010,
Abstract: The present article intent to reflect about the meaning of the Cristian mission in the pluralistic world of the beginning of the 21 century. After an introduction with two narratives of the Brazilian literature, the author explain the mission as constitutive of the nature of the Christian church. In the second part, he propose the biblical concept of compassion as a gospel actualization for the present world, that is characterize by inequalities and injustices, that fall frequent over poor and vulnerable people. The author emphasize that com-passion needs to comprehend in each prophetic and transforming sense. The article conclude with a short commentary about the Ireland John’s Boyne roman The boy in striped pyjamas: a fable [Ireland, 2006].

Abstract: American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) is a focal disease whose surveillance and control require complex actions. The present study aimed to apply integrated tools related to entomological surveillance, environmental management, and health education practices in an ACL-endemic area in Rio de Janeiro city, RJ, Brazil. The distribution of the disease, the particular characteristics of the localities, and entomological data were used as additional information about ACL determinants. Environmental management actions were evaluated after health education practices. The frequency of ACL vectors Lutzomyia (N.) intermedia and L. migonei inside and outside houses varied according to environment characteristics, probably influenced by the way of life of the popular groups. In this kind of situation environmental management and community mobilization become essential, as they help both specialists and residents create strategies that can interfere in the dynamics of vector’s population and the contact between man and vectors. 1. Introduction American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) is among the six most important infectious diseases and the 15 most neglected diseases of the world [1]. It presents a diversity of transmission cycles that involve different species of parasites, vectors, and hosts in restricted ecological niches [2]. Thus, the indication of control measures must consider the entomological and epidemiological characteristics of each locality. According to Sabroza et al. [3], for each disease and particular situation there are environmental and behavioral factors related to the production of endemic or epidemic processes. To explain these factors, Sabroza et al. [3, page 216] used the concept of conditions receptivity, defined as the “set of environmental, social and behavioral characteristics that allow the reproduction of the parasites and its maintenance in the communities.” The city of Rio de Janeiro presents many areas where these conditions are met, mainly because of human occupation of hillsides, which modifies the landscape and favors the installation of ACL transmission cycles. The number of cases in the city has been increasing since the 1980s, with the west zone presenting the highest indices, more specifically the region of Jacarepaguá [4]. Most of the cases in the study area (Campus FIOCRUZ da Mata Atlantica - CFMA, Rio de Janeiro) are related to the occupation of hillsides in Maci?o da Pedra Branca, an Atlantic Forest area. The present study aimed to discuss an experience on ACL surveillance based on integrated tools related to entomological
Processamento digital de sinais no diagnóstico diferencial de doen as laríngeas benignas =Digital signal processing in the differential diagnosis of benign larynx diseases
Zwetsch, Iuberi Carson et. al
Scientia Medica , 2006,
Aims: To present a new Digital Signal Processing procedure to evaluate voice disorders, specifically those related to the benign larynx diseases. Methods: Recorded acoustic signals of normal and abnormal voices of outpatients subjected to videolaryngoscopy had been digitalized for the study of the alterations in vocal acoustics. Window and cepstral analysis were applied on these signals. Results: Through the observation of the different alterations in the voices, it was possible to develop a set of parameters of analysis that allowed a coherent diagnosis of larynx alterations, based in the cepstral findings. Cases randomly selected, who had not participated of the study, had been identified only through the information of the set of parameters, with 80% of rightness, significantly validating the method. Conclusions: This computing method is very efficient and non-invasive, successfully identifying vocal alterations by cepstral analysis.
Harmonizing Budgeting and Accounting: The Case of Italy  [PDF]
Adriana Bruno
Open Journal of Accounting (OJAcct) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojacct.2014.31005
Abstract: Many reforms have been undertaken in recent years; indeed, scholars have concentrated their attention on ac-counting techniques, financial management, and the potential for adding tools to support managerial reform agendas [1-3]. This paper extends prior research by focusing on the manner of diffusion ongoing reform process, through the adoption of the new version of Financial Management Reform process model [3]. The objective of this research is to investigate how a new accounting system has been introduced in the public sector in a processual and outcome-oriented analysis [4]. The study setting for this research is the Italian government, specifically the intermediate or regional level government, Campania Region, where a trial period is underway. The objective is to discover what obstacles and difficulties might exist when implementing a harmonized accounting and budgeting system while moving toward an accrual accounting system. The study reveals the main paradox in the implementation of the reform. This kind of study could add fresh knowledge to the literature and highlight common problems encountered when implementing accounting reforms. Additionally it could help set a standard to assist public entities in developing and implementing accounting guidelines.
Interpretivistic Conception of Quantification: Tool for Enhancing Quality of Life?  [PDF]
Denis Larrivee, Adriana Gini
Open Journal of Philosophy (OJPP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojpp.2013.34A003
Abstract: Quality of life is fast becoming the standard measure of outcome in clinical trials, residential satisfaction, and educational achievement, to name several social settings, with the consequent proliferation of assessment instruments. Yet its interpretation and definition provoke widespread disagreement, thereby rendering the significance of quantification uncertain. Moreover, quality, or qualia, is philosophically distinct from quantity, or quantitas, and so it is unclear how quantification can serve to modulate quality. Is it thus possible for quantification to enhance quality of life? We propose here that an interpretivistic conception of quantification may offer a more valid approach by which to address quality of life in sociological research.

Abstract: the objective of this research was to know the wives of a group of convicted men, serving their time partially at home, and to identify the discriminations they had to go through, including those of gender. we searched to identify the possible labeling for having a convicted relative and the strategies of resistance that these women use in everyday life. the research method is qualitative and information was obtained by means of participation-observation and focal groups with the wives of convicts in a prison facility in the metropolitan region of porto alegre, rs, in a semi-open regime. the wives of convicts submit themselves to situations of control, based on the systems of class and gender domination. from our analysis, the labeling in relation to this social group was found in-between the lines, in other words, implied meanings appeared in their statements. however, the women actively resist to violence, seeking support in family and neighborhood networks. the precariousness of social supporting networks and the lack of information and access to the job market contribute to the marginalizing of the convict and his family, clearly denoting the importance of studies that seek to integrate this social group.
