Visión intercultural de conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas sobre alimentación ancestral mapuche en una escuela con programa oficial

Abstract: the term "interculturality" refers to the communicative interaction that takes place between two or more groups of people from different cultures. the present paper examines the interaction between the western culture and the mapuche culture; the relationship between modernity and ancestral traditions. the purpose was to describe, from an intercultural perspective, the current knowledge, attitudes and practices concerning mapuche traditional food in the educational community of the provincial school no. 89 in epuyén, chubut province, argentina. a qualitative, descriptive, transversal study was conduced. the participants were 67 fourth-fifth-sixth grade mapuche and non-mapuche children, 12 mothers, 2 managers, 3 teachers and 3 others, all intentionally selected. data on knowledge, attitudes, practices and methods of transmission concerning traditional mapuche food were obtained by combining techniques: participant observation, focus groups, semi structured interviews and educational activities. the analysis and data processing were determined by the method of constant comparison, until obtaining theoretical saturation. the main features of the school are cultural mapuche and non- mapuche heterogeneity in the same place, and a non- intercultural education system. in the education community, what is seen is a feeling of not belonging to the ethnicity, abandonment of a breeding, educational and organizational model, differences in knowledge, practices and transmission of a traditional food know-how. despite this, the identity endures and finds support in their last bastion: last names. this heterogeneous reality is homogenized by reactivating, recovering, revaluing and protecting the ancestral mapuche food as a means of reaffirmating an identity that was silenced for so many years. beyond the official program of education, the vision and institutional attitudes promote interculturalism. in this way, the school is an appropriate place to implement these actions.

Abstract: Al decir interculturalidad se hace referencia a la interacción comunicativa que se produce entre dos o más grupos humanos de diferentes culturas. En el presente trabajo se ahonda sobre la interacción entre cultura occidental y cultura mapuche, a la articulación entre modernidad y tradiciones ancestrales. El propósito fue describir desde una perspectiva intercultural los conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas actuales sobre alimentación tradicional mapuche, en la Comunidad educativa de la Escuela Provincial No 89 de Epuyén, Provincia de Chubut, Argentina. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo, descriptivo, transversal. Participaron 67 ni os/as mapuche y no mapuche de cuarto, quinto y sexto grado, 12 madres, 2 directivos, 3 docentes y 3 no docentes, seleccionados todos de manera intencional. Los datos sobre conocimientos, actitudes, prácticas y modos de transmisión respecto a la alimentación tradicional mapuche se obtuvieron mediante la combinación de técnicas: observación participante, grupos focales, entrevistas semiestructuradas y actividades didácticas. El análisis y tratamiento de datos se determinó por el método de comparación constante, hasta obtener saturación teórica. La heterogeneidad cultural, mapuche y no mapuche en un mismo espacio, y un sistema educativo no intercultural son las principales características de la escuela. En la comunidad educativa se evidencia el sentimiento de no pertenencia a la etnia; abandono del modelo de crianza, educativo y organizacional; diferencias de conocimientos, prácticas y transmisión del saber-hacer alimentario tradicional. A pesar de esto, la identidad perdura y se apoya en su último bastión para reelaborarse: los apellidos. Esta realidad heterogénea se homogeniza en las actitudes de reactivación, recuperación, revalorización y protección de la alimentación ancestral mapuche, como reafirmación de una identidad que por tantos a os fue acallada. La visión y las actitudes institucionales, más allá del programa oficial educativo, promueven la interculturalidad. Así, la escuela es un espacio oportuno para implementar dichas acciones. Abstract: We employ an extension of ergodic theory to the random setting to investigate the existence of random periodic solutions of random dynamical systems. Given that a random dynamical system has a dissipative structure, we proved that a random invariant compact set can be expressed as a union of finite of number of random periodic curves. The idea in this paper is closely related to the work recently considered by Zhao and Zheng [46].

Abstract: The demand for extracting rules from high dimensional real world data is increasing in various fields. However, the possible redundancy of such data sometimes makes it difficult to obtain a good generalization ability for novel samples. To resolve this problem, we provide a scheme that reduces the effective dimensions of data by pruning redundant components for bicategorical classification based on the Bayesian framework. First, the potential of the proposed method is confirmed in ideal situations using the replica method. Unfortunately, performing the scheme exactly is computationally difficult. So, we next develop a tractable approximation algorithm, which turns out to offer nearly optimal performance in ideal cases when the system size is large. Finally, the efficacy of the developed classifier is experimentally examined for a real world problem of colon cancer classification, which shows that the developed method can be practically useful.
Selectivity of Inhibition of N-Succinyl-l,l-Diaminopimelic Acid Desuccinylase in Bacteria: The product of dapE-gene Is Not the Target of l-Captopril Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: The emergence of bacterial strains that are resistant to virtually all currently available antibiotics underscores the importance of developing new antimicrobial compounds. N-succinyl-L,L-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase (DapE) is a metallohydrolase involved in the meso-diaminopimelate (mDAP)/lysine biosynthetic pathway necessary for lysine biosynthesis and for building the peptidoglycan cell wall. Because DapE is essential for Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria, DapE has been proposed as a good target for antibiotic development. Recently, L-captopril has been suggested as a lead compound for inhibition of DapE, although its selectivity for this enzyme target in bacteria remains unclear (Gillner et al. (2009)). Here, we tested the selectivity of L-captopril against DapE in bacteria. Since DapE knockout strains of gram-negative bacteria are viable upon chemical supplementation with mDAP, we reasoned that the antimicrobial activity of compounds targeting DapE should be abolished in mDAP-containing media. Although L-captopril had modest antimicrobial activity in Escherichia coli and in Salmonella enterica, to our surprise, inhibition of bacterial growth was independent both of mDAP supplementation and DapE over-expression. We conclude that DapE is not the main target of L-captopril inhibition in these bacteria. The methods implemented here will be useful for screening DapE-selective antimicrobial compounds directly in bacterial cultures. 1. Introduction Most novel antibiotics that are developed are simply broad-spectrum, structural variants of a limited set of known bioactive compounds, many targeting the same enzymatic pathways. Consequently, the risk that pathogenic bacterial strains eventually evolve resistance against new antibiotics is very high [1, 2]. To help combat the serious problem of antibiotic resistance, it is imperative that new enzymatic targets are identified and that their specific inhibitors are developed. DapE, N-succinyl-L,L-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase of the meso-diaminopimelate (mDAP)/lysine biosynthetic pathway of bacteria has been identified as an attractive potential antibiotic target [3]. DapE is a terminal enzyme for the hydrolysis of the N-succinyl-L,L-diaminopimelic acid (SDAP) (Scheme 1) into succinate and DAP [4]. Two of the products of this pathway (mDAP and lysine) are essential components of the cell: lysine is a protein-amino acid and DAP is a necessary component of the peptidoglycan cell wall of all Gram-negative and many Gram-positive bacteria [3, 5]. Comparative Reliability Studies and Analysis of Au, Pd-Coated Cu and Pd-Doped Cu Wire in Microelectronics Packaging

Abstract: This paper compares and discusses the wearout reliability and analysis of Gold (Au), Palladium (Pd) coated Cu and Pd-doped Cu wires used in fineline Ball Grid Array (BGA) package. Intermetallic compound (IMC) thickness measurement has been carried out to estimate the coefficient of diffusion (Do) under various aging conditions of different bonding wires. Wire pull and ball bond shear strengths have been analyzed and we found smaller variation in Pd-doped Cu wire compared to Au and Pd-doped Cu wire. Au bonds were identified to have faster IMC formation, compared to slower IMC growth of Cu. The obtained weibull slope, β of three bonding wires are greater than 1.0 and belong to wearout reliability data point. Pd-doped Cu wire exhibits larger time-to-failure and cycles-to-failure in both wearout reliability tests in Highly Accelerated Temperature and Humidity (HAST) and Temperature Cycling (TC) tests. This proves Pd-doped Cu wire has a greater potential and higher reliability margin compared to Au and Pd-coated Cu wires.
Sol-Gel Synthesis of TiO2 Thin Films from In-House Nano-TiO2 Powder  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents the optimization process in sol-gel technique to synthesize Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films using in-house Nano-TiO2 powder. Nano-TiO2 powder was previously synthesized in our lab from ilmenite which is a tin mining byproduct using a modified hydrothermal method. By varying the mass of Nano-TiO2 powder and acetic acid (catalyst) concentration in the sol-gel process, highly transparent TiO2 thin films were obtained. The thin films were characterized by field effect scanning electron microscope (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), thickness profiler, ultra-violet-visible spectrometer (UV-Vis) and current-voltage (I-V) measurement system. This paper also demonstrates the TiO2 thin films are sensitive towards isopropanol (IPA) solution where the I-V response of the thin films changed sharply as IPA was dropped onto the thin film’s surface. The electrical property shows the thin film has potential applications for chemical sensors and solar cells.
Numerical study of the ordering of the +-J XY spin-glass ladder

Abstract: The properties of the domain-wall energy and of the correlation length are studied numerically for the one-dimensional +-J XY spin glass on the two-leg ladder lattice, focusing on both the spin and the chirality degrees of freedom. Analytic results obtained by Ney-Niftle et al for the same model were confirmed for asymptotically large lattices, while the approach to the asymptotic limit is slow and sometimes even non-monotonic. Attention is called to the occurrence of the SO(2)-Z_2 decoupling and its masking in spin correlations, the latter reflecting the inequality between the SO(2) and Z_2 exponents. Discussion is given concerning the behaviors of the higher-dimensional models.

Abstract: An approach by which to analyze the performance of the code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme, which is a core technology used in modern wireless communication systems, is provided. The approach characterizes the objective system by the eigenvalue spectrum of a cross-correlation matrix composed of signature sequences used in CDMA communication, which enables us to handle a wider class of CDMA systems beyond the basic model reported by Tanaka. The utility of the novel scheme is shown by analyzing a system in which the generation of signature sequences is designed for enhancing the orthogonality.
