Abstract: the aim of this study was to describe knowledge about standard precautions (mpp) and analyze its usage among 266 health professionals from the state of rio de janeiro. we used a selfadministered questionnaire with three domains: a - identification and vocational training; b-knowledge and support after biological accident, c-use of mpp in professional activities. in this population, 174 (65.4%) reported having done in the last two years a course in your area, 106 (39.8%) made some progress containing matters of biosecurity, and 31.9% reported work-related accident previously. we observed that the victims had a higher median age and time of completion. we conclude that most professionals recognize and use the key mpps, but a part of the population still does not use these measures. it is important training in biosafety in order to minimize risk during their career.

Silva, Juliana Azevedo da;Paula, Vanessa Salete de;Almeida, Adilson José de;Villar, Livia Melo;
Escola Anna Nery , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-81452009000300008
Abstract: the aims of this study were to identify the major professional category exposed to biological risk and the principal type of accident occurred among health care workers in campos dos goytacazes, rj. based on the analysis of 183 records filled out by the workers who suffered biohazardous accidents between january 2005 and september 2005, we found the nursing auxiliaries and technicians as the professional category more exposed to biohazardous accidents (54.1%), followed by undergraduate medical and dental students (10.4%). the occurence of acidents with piercing-cutting materials was related to frequent handling of these instruments, and to the behavior of workers who maintain practices providing risks of needlestick injuries, such as inappropriate disposal of piercing-cutting materials.

Genetic diversity of NS3 protease from Brazilian HCV isolates and possible implications for therapy with direct-acting antiviral drugs
Peres-da-Silva, Allan;Almeida, Adilson José de;Lampe, Elisabeth;
Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762012000200016
Abstract: the hepatitis c virus (hcv) ns3 protease has been one of the molecular targets of new therapeutic approaches. its genomic sequence variability in brazilian hcv isolates is poorly documented. to obtain more information on the magnitude of its genetic diversity, 114 brazilian hcv samples were sequenced and analysed together with global reference sequences. genetic distance (d) analyses revealed that subtype 1b had a higher degree of heterogeneity (d = 0.098) than subtypes 1a (d = 0.060) and 3a (d = 0.062). brazilian isolates of subtype 1b were distributed in the phylogenetic tree among sequences from other countries, whereas most subtype 1a and 3a sequences clustered into a single branch. additional characterisation of subtype 1a in clades 1 and 2 revealed that all but two brazilian subtype 1a sequences formed a distinct and strongly supported (approximate likelihood-ratio test = 93) group of sequences inside clade 1. moreover, this subcluster inside clade 1 presented an unusual phenotypic characteristic in relation to the presence of resistance mutations for macrocyclic inhibitors. in particular, the mutation q80k was found in the majority of clade 1 sequences, but not in the brazilian isolates. these data demonstrate that brazilian hcv subtypes display a distinct pattern of genetic diversity and reinforce the importance of sequence information in future therapeutic approaches.
Os formadores de opini?o na alimenta??o infantil
Almeida, Luciene Nascimento de;Ribas, José Roberto;Leandro, Adilson dos Santos;
Revista de Administra??o Contemporanea , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-65552010000400014
Abstract: this paper deals with product positioning strategy and is based on the influence made by opinion makers on consumer behavior. the case study describes how biogood has developed its marketing integrated communication regarding child nourishment, by matching its image with science through r&d investments; divulging its research through pediatrics and nutrition channels; venturing and sponsoring and promoting events directed at professionals in these specialties. the case investigates the strategic adjustment made by biogood, aiming to neutralize the regulatory acts as established by the national health council since 1988. the problem, as shown by this case, is the effort made by this company in its attempt to influence physicians, who are considered as relevant opinion makers for children's products. in this way, the company positioned its brands as associated with safety, care and quality. the case is structured in accordance with the recommendations of roesch (2007), who suggested that learning objectives may attempt to develop skills and relevant attitudes related to managerial practice and make it feasible to understand the organization and its environment, supporting the teacher with input for his lectures.
