This study used 12 Saanen goats with BW of 35 kg and daily milkproduction of 1.2 kg, in order to evaluate the effect of fat supplementation on the intake, digestibility and milk yield. Four animals were fistulated in the rumen for pH observation. The treatments consisted of a control diet and three diets supplemented with faveleira seed, faveleira cake and cotton seed. The data were analyzed in 4 x 4 chi squares, with three repetitions and the statistical analyses by Tukey's test at 5% probability. Fat supplementation decreases the intake of dry matter and of most nutrients, affecting milk yield and the composition of Saanen goat milk. Supplementation with faveleira cake and cotton seeds can be considered as an alternative feed for those animals.

O pastejo n o afetou a composi o química e a digestibilidade in vitro da vegeta o herbácea. The objective of this word was to evaluate the chemical composition, digestibility and intake of herbaceous vegetation in a thinned and enriched with buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) Caatinga grazed by sheeps and goats. 12 goats F1 (Boer x SRD) and 12 Santa Inês sheeps with live weight of 15,00kg were used. The vegetation data were analyzed using a completely randomized design with repeated observations over time, and the animals intake of was also a completely randomized design with two treatments and twelve repetitions. Grazing did not affect the chemical composition and in vitro digestibility of herbaceous vegetation. On the evaluation on june 1st the three floristic components had the lowest percentage of dry matter and the higherest percentages of crude protein and in vitro digestibility of dry matter, while the opposite occurred in august 1st, differing even from that observed in september 1st and october 1st. The goats intake was 437.47 of dry matter, compared to 331.78g of dry matter intake by sheep. Although the available dry matter from thinned and enriched caatinga with buffel grass presented low levels of crude protein and in vitro digestibility of dry matter, the goats were able to select a diet that allowed intake

This work aimed to evaluate the body composition and the calcium and phosphorus nutritional requirements of Santa Inês lambs under rangeland conditions in the semi-arid region of Brazil. Thirty-twocastrated lambs between 3 to 4months old were used, with an initial mean body weight of 15.8 ± 1.4 kg. Of these, eight were slaughtered in the beginning of the experiment to provide the initial body composition (“Reference Animals” of the comparative slaughtermethod). The other animals were divided randomly in groups of three, as the lambs reached 15 kg. The three levels of food supplementation were randomly assigned to the lambs in each group (block). When the first animal in each group reached 30 kg, the whole group was slaughtered. The animals were kept in native rangeland enriched with buffelgrass (Cenchrus ciliaris L. cv. Biloela). Their diets were supplemented daily with three levels of concentrate mixture (0.0, 1.0 and 1.5% of their body weight). The estimated values of bodycomposition, in g kg-1 of empty body weight, ranged from 14.91 to 17.11 g for Ca, and from 5.33 to 6.08 g for P. The net requirements gain of 15-to-30-kg lambs, in g kg-1 gained in live body weight, ranged from 9.4 to 10.8 mg for Ca, and from 3.76 to 3.89 mg for P.

Abstract: the study of the metabolic profile has as objective to evaluate the nutritional status or possible metabolic disturbances that can damage the health and consequently the herd performance. in this work, the metabolic profile of lactating goats was evaluated, submitted to diets with different fat sources. 12 saanen goats with bw of 35 kg and daily milk production of 1,2 kg were used, distributed into a latin square with three repetitions. the diet comprised, without fat supplementation, tc (control) and with fat supplementation: sf (favelone seed); tf (favelone cake) and ca (cotton seed).the experiment was developed in four experimental periods of 14 days, with 10 days of adaptation to diets and four days for samples collection. in the last day of each period were collected blood samples. the inclusion of oleaginous seed into the lactating goats' diet decreased the dry matter consumption for metabolic unit (cmu) and consumption of crude protein for metabolic unit (cpmu). no significant differences in serum urea, creatinine, ggt (gamma glutamyltransferase), calcium, phosphorus, magnesium or glucose values were noticed in any of the four treatments. the serum levels of albumin in the animals that received tf were higher (p<0.05) than the animals of the control group. this work suggests that the oleaginous sources can be used as fat supplementation of lactating saanen goats; however, animals fed the tf showed a healthier metabolic profile due to the fat supplement.
