Ecologia Balkanica , 2011,
Abstract: G ksu Delta is one of the most important nesting beaches in Turkey for the endangered loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta). This paper provides information on the nesting activities of loggerhead turtles, the spatial and temporal distribution of nesting, nesting success, nesting density, hatching success, incubation duration and clutch size over two nesting seasons. A total of 902 emergences occurred over two seasons, of which 239 (26.5%) nests were deposited (137 nests in 2004 and 102 nests in 2008) and the overall mean nesting density was 3.4 nests/km. The peak of nesting emergences takes place mainly in June. Of the overall nests, 226 (94.6%) were excavated and 16044 eggs were counted. Of these eggs, 3680 (22.9%) hatchlings emerged and 2695 (73.2% of hatchlings) of them were able to reach the sea. The mean number of eggs per clutch was 71 (range: 15 – 143). The shortest and longest incubation duration in these 2 seasons ranged from 46 to 62 days with a mean of 53 days. The main problems are negatively affecting loggerhead turtle population at G ksu Delta are dense jackal predation both adult and eggs and inundation in nests. The average nesting effort here (mean: 119.5 nests/season) confirms that G ksu Delta is one of the most important nesting sites for loggerhead turtles in Turkey.

International Journal of Human Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: The purpose of the present research is to determine the pre and post game state and trait anxiety levels of individual and team athletes. The research sample includes 107 females and 289 males, a total of 396 athletes from various sports (individual sports, racket sports and team sports) who participated in the games of 1999-2000 Turkey Universities Championships. In the research, a 10-item socio-demographic questionnaire and the Spielberger Trait-State Anxiety Inventory were used as data collection tools. The results of the research concluded that in terms of pre game state anxiety level those who engaged in individual sports and in terms of trait anxiety level those who engaged in team sports showed a significant difference compared to the others. There was no significant difference among the sport branches in terms of age and gender variables.

Turk Pediatri Ar?ivi , 2012,
Abstract: Zona Zoster, is a mostly benign disease in immunocompetent children. Those of in immunocompromised children, there is a risk of dissemination. Zona zoster, scarcely causes some neurological complications such as myelitis, aseptic meningitis, encephalitis and ventriculitis in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised children. A 17-year-old girl who had bone marrow transplantation for thalasemia major was admitted to our hospital with fever, itchy rash on the right chest and axillary region and diagnosed as zona zoster. She had severe headache and vomiting on follow-up. We performed lumbar puncture because of the neck stiffness and meningeal irritation signs, pleocytosis and protein elevation were detected in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The diagnosis of aseptic meningitis due to zona zoster was confirmed by VZV-PCR in the CSF. She cured without sequele after the administration of acyclovir treatment for 10 days. If symptoms such as headache and vomiting develop in immunocompromised children with zona zoster, neurological complications like aseptic meningitis should be remembered. Abstract: Identification, description and therapeutic management of impulsivity, which underlies the mechanism and coexistence of many neurological and psychiatric diseases, are considered to be very crucial. Treatment can be applied in two ways; either for the disorder that occurs with impulsivity or for the treatment of the impulsive behavior itself. Disorders associated with or accompanied by impulsivity can be classified as borderline and antisocial personality disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, eating disorders, substance use disorders. In addition, impulsivity can manifest itself within the context of diagnostic criteria implicated in the impulse control disorders which include pathological gambling, intermittent explosive disorder, pyromania, kleptomania and trichotillomania. Behavioral and pharmacological interventions that are effective in treatment plans for these disorders should be integrated. These can be listed as insight-oriented psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapies, contingency management, and pharmacotherapy. The aim of the current review is to understand impulsivity and discuss its relation to other psychiatric disorders and to focus on the treatment of impulsivity.
Ecythema gangrenosum in a previously healthy child

Turk Pediatri Ar?ivi , 2013,
Abstract: Ecthyma gangrenosum is a well known cutaneous manifestation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections and is usually seen in immunocompromised patients. A previously healthy 5-month-old boy presented to our hospital with a complaint of an open inguinal wound. Physical examination revealed several ulcers surrounded by erythematous halos in bilateral inguinal regions. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from swab cultures obtained from the ulcers. However, blood cultures were sterile. The patient was diagnosed as non-bacterial ectima gangrenosoum. No immunological abnormality was detected during extensive investigation of the patient. The patient was successfully treated with an anti-pseudomonal antibiotic cefoperazone-sulbactam. (Turk Arch Ped 2013; 48: 68-70)
Mechanisms of preventative and therapeutic role of probiotics in different allergic and autoimmune disorders  [PDF]

Open Journal of Immunology (OJI) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/oji.2013.33015
Abstract:

The prevalence of allergic and autoimmune diseases has been increasing from the last decades of 20th century. Intestinal microflora contributes to antigen exposure in early life and is one of the most abundant sources of early immune stimulation as well as adaptation. Because allergic and autoimmune responses manifest early in life, there has been obvious interest in the potential benefits of modifying the gastrointestinal flora by using probiotic supplementation. So far, there have been several studies to address the role of probiotics in primary prevention and therapy, with a reported suspicious reduction in the incidence of atopic and autoimmune diseases. Here, our aim is to evaluate the available knowledge of mechanisms of preventative and therapeutic role of probiotics in different allergic and autoimmune disorders. Promising mechanisms of probiotic effects may be categorized as local and systemic effects. Local influences of probiotics potentially include reduction of gut permeability and systemic penetration of antigens, increased local immunoglobulin A production, and alteration of local inflammation or tolerance induction. Some possible systemic effects consist of anti-inflammatory effects mediated by Th17 cells and Toll-like receptors, Th1 skewing of responses to allergens, activation of tolerogenic dendritic cells, in addition to T-regulatory cell production.

The Relation between Liberty and Dependence in Rousseau’s Philosophy of Education
Ismahan ?zdemir
Beytulhikme : An International Journal of Philosophy , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper, the contradiction between freedom and dependence which are the concept included within philosophy of education of Rousseau will be examined. Rousseau asserts that humans who are inherently good are corrupted by the social institutions and seeks for a method of bringing up a good person. However the issue which he ignores while seeking for a method is the relation between tutor and pupil. Rousseau who intends to bring up free and good person cannot save the pupil from the bonds of slavery which he asserts to be adopted in the process of socialization. This side of Rousseau’s educational model will be explained in this study.

Abstract: This article examines the missionary activities of the American personnel in the American Christian Hospital of Konya, which was opened by the missionaries of the American Board in 1912. According to Ottoman sources, although the Ottoman authorities were aware of the explicit missionary effort to proselytize the local Muslim population, they allowed the hospital to remain open until World War I. Later on the hospital was reopened and reclosed several times until it was closed permanently in 1923.
