Electrorotation: A Spectroscopic Imaging Approach to Study the Alterations of the Cytoplasmic Membrane  [PDF]
Adalberto Bonincontro, Gianfranco Risuleo
Advances in Molecular Imaging (AMI) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ami.2015.51001
Abstract: Electrorotation (ER) is a technique allowing the characterization of the surface properties of a variety of supra-molecular aggregates and living cultured cells as well as cellular organelles and biological materials in general. In particular, this technique allows measuring two important physical parameters of the cell membrane: specific capacitance and specific conductance. These parameters are strictly related to the structure/function relationships of the biological membrane; ER becomes thus a powerful means to investigate a number of phenomena involving the membrane integrity. These phenomena may originate from treatments with exogenous molecules and/or from pathological effects. Concerning these aspects, the study of the transfer of exogenous material (i.e. cat-anionic vesicles or liposomes) across the cell membrane assumes a high importance. This review is focused on the physical functioning principles of ER and on the quantitative analysis of the experimental measurements. This work also reports on different fields of application of ER with particular reference to data obtained in our laboratory. The investigation of the alterations of the cytoplasmic membrane function, as evidenced by this strategy, will be illustrated in detail.
Merighi, Miriam Aparecida Barbosa;
Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0080-62341998000100012
Abstract: this article is about the discussion, on the faculty member's role, who are working in a nursing school of a public university, attempting to suggest integration, strategies to teach and research about the nursing and the care of people, and consequently the benefits to the teachers, to the nursing school and to the nursing profession.
Merighi, Miriam Aparecida Barbosa;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692002000500004
Abstract: this study aimed at understanding the experiences of students that were enrolled in the obstetric nursing program offered by the university of s?o paulo college of nursing. data were collected through interviews with the former students, who had different life histories after their graduation. the proposal of this research was based on alfred schutz' social phenomenology framework, considering that people express, in their actions socially experienced, the meaning of these experiences. results showed two social types: the ones who continue in the area because they like what they do and the ones who do not work in the area as they were disappointed with the lack of professional autonomy. the reasons mentioned offer important guidelines that must be analyzed by the ones who are still working in the area, by the class associations and the ones who are responsible for the capacitation of these professionals.

Cardoso, Adalberto;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002008000100006
Abstract: based on historiographical studies that since 1980?s have undertaken a broad review of the social history of labor in brazil, the article presents some sociological hypotheses about the permanence of structural features of slavery past in the process of building of the capitalist sociality in the country. this legacy includes a depreciated perception of manual work, a derogatory image of black and even national people as workers, an indifference of the elites toward poor majorities, and an extremely rigid social hierarchy. according to the author, this framework of structural inertia provided the general parameters of free labor?s reproduction in the beginning of capitalist order in brazil.
Paranhos, Adalberto;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742003000100004
Abstract: as in a race of obstacles, samba traveled across bumpy paths until it was recognized by legitimization instances of the state as a national symbol. throughout this process, the samba composers and interpreters of urban rio samba played a decisive role. this article searches to clarify some hardly studied aspects of the marches and counter-marches which marked the history of samba and its passage from culturally marginal artifact to the bearer of brazilian singularity in the musical field.
Cardoso, Adalberto;
Dados , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582010000400001
Abstract: this article joins the persistent (and still current) effort to decipher the riddle of brazil's equally persistent inequality. resuming the interpretation of modern brazil proposed by juarez brand?o lopes in the 1960s, the article proposes to revisit the "vargas era" and its historical meaning and scope, in light of the reproduction of inequalities over time. the author contends that "regulated citizenship" generated the expectation of social protection among brazilian workers, feeding the promise of citizens' integration, which was not fulfilled, while performing the task of finally (but not definitively) incorporating workers as artifices in the brazilian state-building process.
Cardoso, Adalberto;
Dados , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582008000300002
Abstract: this study analyzes the changes in economic structure and labor markets in the last 60 years in brazil that provided the basis for establishing patterns in the transition from school to work for young men and women born since 1948. data from population censuses beginning in 1970 and the national household sample surveys (pnads) beginning in 1976 were used to support the idea that brazil witnessed a developmentalist pattern in the social trajectories of young people marked by lesser importance of education in shaping their initial life opportunities, constructed in a highly unstable and poorly structured labor market. this pattern can be distinguished from another, which we will call a fordist transition pattern, typical of advanced capitalist countries and characterized by strong family and state control over the general work qualifications processes, in which the school plays a central role and serves as the principal element for social mobility and creation of life opportunities.
A globaliza??o do narcotráfico
Santana, Adalberto;
Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-73291999000200006
Abstract: the article intends to bring an overview of the characteristics of the drug traffic, understood here as an economic, political, and social phenomenon at the age of globalization. moreover, it intends to show the new dimensions of the drug traffic that nowadays have become an issue in many economies of the world periphery. the profile this phenomenon has acquired in its global expansion, and particularly in some latin american and other world periphery areas nations is emphasized.
