Efficient Cellular Automata Algorithm for Template Matching
Fawaz Alsaade,Yasser Fouda,Abdul Raouf Khan
Journal of Artificial Intelligence , 2012,
Abstract: Template matching plays an important role in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it has been used in many applications related to computer vision and image processing such as object recognition and industrial inspection. The main objective of this study was to introduce an appropriate template matching algorithm to enhance the performance of template matching system. The investigation was based on using Cellular Automata with Rule 170 (CA-R170). The main idea of the proposed technique was based on eliminating some of the undesirable area in the binary source images and their corresponding binary template images. The experimental investigations used two sets of color and gray scale images with different sizes and illumination. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can significantly improve the accuracy and execution time of template matching system.
UNRUPTURED TUBAL PREGNANCY
Abdul Raouf Goraya
The Professional Medical Journal , 2001,
Abstract: A prospective study was carried out to assess the effectiveness of systemic methotrexate treatmentin combination with its local injection under ultrasound guidance in un-ruptured ectopicpregnancy. This was carried out in Mayo Hospital Lahore in collaboration with Gynaecologist ofLady Aitchison Hospital Lahore. A total of 152 women admitted with diagnosis of extra-uterinepregnancy but only 30 women fulfilled the criteria for our protocol. In 90% women no further surgicalintervention was required (27/30) and 80% had intra-uterine pregnancy within 15 months of treatment. However 10% failed to respond to medical treatment and needed surgery.
Identification of the Optimum Locations of Power System Stabilizers in a Multimachine Power System Using Second Order Eigenvalue Sensitivity Analysis  [PDF]
Abdul Mahabuba, Abdullah Khan
Smart Grid and Renewable Energy (SGRE) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/sgre.2013.41005
Abstract:

This research paper deals with the identification of the best location of the Power System Stabilizers (PSS) and also the tuning of PSS parameters in order to improve the overall dynamic stability of multi machine power systems. The location of PSS is determined by identifying the critical modes and their corresponding first and second order eigenvalue sensitivities. In this formulation, sensitivity analysis of a particular mode can be performed with only its eigenvalues and their left and right eigenvectors. The simplicity and efficiency of this approach sharply contrast to the complexity of the traditional approach, where all eigenvalues and eigenvectors are required at the same time. The effectiveness of this method in selecting the optimum location for placement of PSSs is compared with the participation factor method. The proposed sensitivity theory used to identify the best PSS location in a five machine, eight bus El-Metwally and Malik System to increase the damping of both local and inter area modes for various operating conditions.

The Odd-Point Ternary Approximating Schemes  [PDF]
Ghulam Mustafa, Abdul Ghaffar, Faheem Khan
American Journal of Computational Mathematics (AJCM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ajcm.2011.12011
Abstract: We present a general formula to generate the family of odd-point ternary approximating subdivision schemes with a shape parameter for describing curves. The influence of parameter to the limit curves and the sufficient conditions of the continuities from C0 to C5 of 3- and 5-point schemes are discussed. Our family of 3-point and 5-point ternary schemes has higher order of derivative continuity than the family of 3-point and 5-point schemes presented by [Jian-ao Lian, On a-ary subdivision for curve design: II. 3-point and 5-point interpolatory schemes, Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal, 3(2), 2008, 176-187]. Moreover, a 3-point ternary cubic B-spline is special case of our family of 3-point ternary scheme. The visual quality of schemes with examples is also demonstrated.
Thermochemical Parameters of 3-Chloroaniline Complexes of Certain Bivalent Transition Metal Bromides  [PDF]
Pedro Oliver Dunstan, Abdul Majeed Khan
Open Journal of Physical Chemistry (OJPC) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojpc.2013.34020
Abstract:

Complexes of general formula [MBr2(3-clan)n] (where M is Fe, Ni, Cu or Zn; 3-clan = m-chloroaniline; n is 1.5 or 2) were prepared and their characteristic properties, such as capillary MP; C, H, N, Br and metal contents; TG/DTG and DSC curves; and IR and electronic spectra were determined. By calorimetric measurements in solution, the values of some thermodynamic parameters of the complexes were determined. From these values, the standard enthalpies of the metal-nitrogen coordinated bonds were calculated, and the standard enthalpies of the formation of the gaseous phase complexes were estimated.

Mechanical, Thermal and Interfacial Properties of Jute Fabric-Reinforced Polypropylene Composites: Effect of Potassium Dichromate  [PDF]
Jahangir A. Khan, Mubarak A. Khan, Rabiul Islam, Abdul Gafur
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2010.16051
Abstract: Composites based on jute fabrics and polypropylene was fabricated by heat-press molding technique. The mechanical properties of the composites such as tensile strength, tensile modulus, bending strength, bending modulus and impact strength were measured in dependence of fiber contents. In order to improve fiber-matrix interaction, jute fabrics were treated with aqueous solutions of K2Cr2O7 (0.005-0.05% w/v). Composite prepared with 0.02% K2Cr2O7 treated jute fabrics showed the highest values of the mechanical properties. Thermogravimetric (TG/DTG) data of PP, jute fabrics and composites showed that thermal degradation temperatures of composites shifted to higher temperature regions compared to PP or jute fabrics. Treatment of jute fabrics improved the thermal stability of the composite considerably. Scanning electron microscopic images of tensile fractured sides of untreated and treated composites illustrated that better fiber-matrix interfacial interaction occurred in treated composite. The relative tendency of water absorption of both untreated and treated composites was also explored.
Frictional amyloidosis in Oman - A study of ten cases
Mysore Venkataram,Bhushnurmath Shivayogi,Muirhead David,Al - Suwaid Abdul Raouf
Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology , 2002,
Abstract: Macular amyloidosis is an important cause for cutaneous pigmentation, the aetiology of which is poorly understood. Friction has recently been implicated the causation of early lesions, referred to as frictional amyloidosis. Confirmation of diagnosis by the detect on of amyloid using histochemical stains is inconsistent. Ten patients with pigmentation suggestive of macular amyloidosis were studied with detailed history, clinical examination, biopsy for histochemistry and electron microscopy. Nine out of ten patients had a history of prolonged friction with various objects such as bath sponges, brushes, towels, plant sticks and leaves. Amyloid was demonstrated by histochemical staining in only six out of ten cases. In the remaining four cases, amyloid was detected by electron microscopy. These consisted of aggregates of non-branching, extracellular, intertwining fibres measuring between 200-500 nm in length and between 20-25 nm in diameter. The study confirms the role of friction in the causation of this condition. Histochemical stains are not always successful in the detection of amyloid and electron microscopy is helpful for confirming its presence. The term frictional amyloidosis aptly describes the condition.
