Abstract: 2,3-Dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazoles, triazolino[4,3-a]pyrimidines, isoxazoles and isoxazolo[3,4-d]pyridazines containing coumarin moities were synthesized from the reactions of methyl (or benzyl) carbodithioate, pyrimidine-2-thione and 3-(3-(dimethylamino)acryloyl)-2H-chromen-2-one derivatives with C-coumarinoyl-N-phenylhydrazonoyl bromide. The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses and spectral data.
Convenient synthesis of some new pyrazolo[5,1-c]triazines, isoxazolo[3,4-d] pyrimidine and pyridine derivatives containing benzofuran moiety

Abstract: Pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazine, [1,2,4]triazolo[3,4-c][1,2,4]triazine, benzo[4,5]-imidazo[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazine, isoxazole, isoxazolo[3,4-d]pyridazine, pyrazole, pyridine, substituted urea and phenyl carbamate derivatives containing benzofuran moiety were synthesized via reaction of sodium salt of 5-hydroxy-l-benzofuran-2-ylpropenone or 1-(benzofuran-2-yl)-3-(dimethylamino)prop-2-en-1-one with diazotized heterocyclic amines, hydroximoyl chlorides and active methylene compounds. The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, spectral data, and alternative synthetic routes, whenever possible.

Abstract: 2,3-Dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazoles, and triazolino[4,3-a]pyrimidines containing pyrazole moieties were prepared from the reaction of alkyl 2-[1-(4-cyano-1,5-diphenyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)ethylidene]hydrazinecarbodithioate and pyrimidine-2-thione derivatives with appropriate hydrazonoyl halides. The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, spectral data, and alternative route of synthesis whenever possible.

Abstract: Hydatid disease is caused by Echinococcus granulosus parasite. It is an endemic disease; particularly in many Mediterranean countries. The liver and the lungs are most frequently involved. Bone involvement is reported in 1% - 2% of the cases and about 50% of those are seen in the spine. Herein we report a case of primary spinal extradural hydatid cyst that caused paraplegia due to compression of the dorsal spinal cord and was diagnosed initially as case of lumber prolapsed intervertebral disc. The cyst was only discovered when the patient had progressive paraplegia and the preoperative provisional diagnosis was posterior mediastinal neurogenic tumor causing destruction of the pedicle and lamina of the fifth thoracic vertebra. Fortunately, she regained near full power after surgical treatment of her spinal cyst.

Abstract: The concentration of Radon in mines varies tremendously according to the country rock, type of mineralization and area. Ventilation is also an important factor. The absence of ventilation in mines tends to allow a higher concentration of Radon to build up. This is very dangerous for the miners work inside. In this present work, the radon gas concentration is practically measured in closed uranium prospect mine located at Gabal (G.) Gattar. CR-39 solid state nuclear track detector technique is used. It is found that the radon concentration is around 80 kBq m-3 and an effective ventilation rates should be applied if there will be further works in the future.
Effect of Grape Seed Extract on Oxidative Damages in Gamma Irradiated Rats

Abstract: Back ground: Ionizing radiation is known to produce deleterious effects in the living organisms. Aim of the work: The aim of this study is to evaluate the possible protective effect of the chemical constituents of grape seed extract on oxidative stress induced by gamma rays. Materials & Methods: Rats were subjected to 8 Gy fractionated doses of gamma radiation, grape seed extract 100 mg/kg body weights were daily administrated before and within radiation exposure. All parameters were investigated at 1st and 14th days post last radiation exposure.Results: The results revealed that administration of grape seed extract to irradiated rats significantly ameliorates the changes induced in antioxidant system. TBARS (lipid peroxidation index) were significantly decreased when compared with their equivalent values in irradiated rats. In conclusion, the administration of grape seed extract to irradiated rats might provide substantial protection against oxidative damages due to its free radical scavenging and antioxidant properties of its ingredients. It could be suggested that, grape seed extract may have a potential benefits to people receiving radiotherapy
Uncertainties in Estimating Ecological Effects of Ozone under Egyptian Climatic Changes

Abstract: An Ideal farm in Abbis village (Northern Egypt) was selected, with ozone (O3) levels recorded in 1999 used as the reference scenario. Experimental dose-response functions for seven important crops were included. With the aid of linear programming model OPTICROP, the maximum difference between the proceeds of production and the variable costs was determined for different levels of O3 by optimizing the structure of production. The economically most efficient structure was chosen from 29 possible crop rotations. The model predicts that increasing O3 pollution causes a shift from rotation with O3-sensitive crops (e.g. radish) to rotations with predominantly O3-tolerant crops (e.g. barley). On acreage, an increase in O3 level by 10% leads to a decrease in the total gross margin of 4%. Parallel to structural changes in production, the requirement for production factor (e.g. machinery, use of fertilizers, etc.) changes. It is concluded that O3 pollution can have important economic consequences, which could affect political decision-making.
Changes in Growth, Pigments and Carbohydrates of Soybean and Rosemary Agroecosystem in Response to Soils Treated with Ceramic Dust in Egypt

Abstract: The use of pollution as a soil amendment was highly demand for all scientific researchers to face its side effect on the Egyptian ecology. Three replicates of 90 pots culture experiments were conducted at the Faculty of Science, Zagazig University during 2001-2002 to evaluate the impact of ceramic dust as a source of pollution on the growth of soybean (Glycine max L. cv. Crawford) and rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) grown singly and in combination. We take 1 kg from three different kinds of soils (Delta soil, Desert soil and Sahl El-Tean soil) to be under high control. Ceramic dust was handily mixed with these soils at five rates varying from 0 to 200 g dust kg-1 of soil. The seeds of the two plants were sown on these soil as follow: One soybean only, one soybean+one rosemary, two soybean+one rosemary, three soybean+one rosemary, one soybean+two rosemary and one soybean+three rosemary. With Delta soil treatments, ceramic dust at 5 and 10% caused significant increase in plantation success, plant height, yield, pigments and carbohydrates of soybean and rosemary as compared to control. On the other hand, non-significant difference were obtained at 15 and 20% of the rest of applications. The results indicated that best significant responses showed especially with desert soil. One plant soybean+one plant rosemary are resistant to ceramic dust pollution and we are recommended this kind of cultivation for growing plants in polluted sites.

Abstract: This article, which compares the legal monitoring procedures of thejudgments of the European and Inter-American Court of Human Rights,states that these regimes were initially thought of in very diverse terms. Indeed the political approach at the European level is opposed to the judicial approach adopted by the Inter-American system. This study demonstrates how through evolution, which has already occurred in Europe but is still in preparation in America, both regional systems are moving closer together towards a mixed system (judicial and political) involving several organs, at the international and national levels. Facing similar cases of noncompliance(for either technical or political reasons), both systems try to reply throughnon punitive measures.
Combined distal tibial rotational osteotomy and proximal growth plate modulation for treatment of infantile Blount’s disease

Abstract: Infantile Blount’s disease is a condition that causes genu varum and internal tibial torsion. Treatment options include observation, orthotics, corrective osteotomy, elevation of the medial tibial plateau, resection of a physeal bar, lateral hemi-epiphysiodesis, and guided growth of the proximal tibial physis. Each of these treatment options has its disadvantages. Treating the coronal deformity alone (genu varum) will result in persistence of the internal tibial torsion (the axial deformity). In this report, we describe the combination of lateral growth modulation and distal tibial external rotation osteotomy to correct all the elements of the disease. This has not been described before for treatment of Blount’s disease. Both coronal and axial deformities were corrected in this patient. We propose this combination (rather than the lateral growth modulation alone) as the method of treatment for early stages of Blount’s disease as it corrects both elements of the disease and in the same time avoids the complications of proximal tibial osteotomy.
