Compost Extracts of Vegetable Wastes as Biopesticide to Control Cucumber Mosaic Virus

Abstract: In semiaerobic conditions, different composting processes of vegetable wastes have different characteristics. When compost extracts amended with the effective microorganism-4 (EM4, +E) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa Ch1 (+B) stored for 40 days, the bacteria population and P-content increased. Tobacco plants treated with compost extracts amended with +E+B and [+E+B] directly to organic materials and inoculated with Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) both sprayed or watered applications reduced the disease severity. This is due to the higher bacteria population in the root and rhizosphere, particularly the activities of P. aeruginosa Ch1 as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) rather than the activities of bacteria from EM4. The role of P. aeruginosa Ch1 to induce resistance of the plants to CMV was suggested by producing siderophores under the limited Fe conditions,17-20 ppm.
Improving Phosphate Efficiency by Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria and Organic Matter Estimated by Radio Isotop (32P) Technique in Some Soils

Abstract: Phosphorous (P) contents in many soils are varies highly along with their ability to provide available P to plant growth. Soils may contain very high in total P, but low in available P due to high P adsorbed by soil matrix and all their adsorbing agents. This research which using natural materials was aimed to increase P availability in some high-P absorption soils. The natural materials utilized for extracting P were organic matter, P extracting bacterial, androck phosphate. Those materials were interacted to high P absorption soils which were: Oxisol, Inceptisol, and Andisol. The detail objectives of this research were: (1) to study the potential of P-extracting agents (organic matter,and P-extracting bacteria) in releasing P of three high P- absorption soils; (2) to quantify the -age of P coming from the treatments; (3) to calculate the efficiency of P utilization by plant; and (4) to quantify Residual P in soils. The P mobility was analyzed by radioisotope technique using KH232PO4 carrier free solution. The results showed that adding soil organic matter increased the available P by 15.24% in Oxisol, 40.18 in Inceptisol, and by 7.34% in Andisol. Plant sorption toward P from % P used efficiency(%-PUE) up to 60 days was still very low, 0.65 to 9.34%.This was in accordance with the residual P in soils which were still quite high ranging from 94% to 96% in Andisol,91%97% in Inceptisol, and 96%-98% in Oxisol. The implication of the results of this research, however, is that the application of natural materials in improving soil P availability provides a longtimeresidual effect which could give benefit to the following crops.
Unmanned Airborne Magnetic and VLF Investigations: Effective Geophysical Methodology for the Near Future  [PDF]

Abstract: Airborne geophysical investigations are now recognized as a powerful tool for geological-geophysical mapping, mineral prospecting, environmental assessments, ecological monitoring, etc. Currently, however, there are two main drawbacks to effective application of these investigations: (a) the difficulty of conducting geophysical surveys at low altitudes, (b) heightened danger for the aircraft crew, especially in regions with a rugged topography. Unmanned or so-called Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV) surveys are not bound by these limitations. The new unmanned generation of small and maneuvering vehicles can fly at levels of a few (even one) meters above the Earth’s surface, and thus follow the relief, while simultaneously making geophysical measurements. In addition, ROV geophysical investigations have extremely low exploitation costs. Finally, measurements of geophysical fields at different observation levels can provide new, unique geological-geophysical information. This chapter discusses future geophysical integration into ROV of measurements of magnetic and VLF electromagnetic fields. The use of GPS with improved wide-band Kalman filtering will be able to provide exact geodetic coordinates. A novel interpreting system for complex environments is presented that includes non-conventional methods for localizing targets in noisy backgrounds, filtering temporary variations from magnetic and VLF fields, eliminating terrain relief influence, quantitative analysis of the observed anomalies and their integrated examination. This system can be successfully applied at various scales for analysis of geophysical data obtained by ROVs to search for useful minerals, geological mapping, the resolution of many environmental problems, and geophysical monitoring of dangerous geological phenomena.

Abstract: Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHPS) is a rare, complication of carotid artery revascularization. Acute retinal hemorrhage is a very rare entity previously described as a manifestation of CHPS following carotid artery stenting (CAS), but to the best of our knowledge, not yet described as a complication of carotid surgery. An Ascending Aorta to bilateral Carotid bypass was performed in a 35-year-old woman with active Takayasu arteritis and 95% symptomatic stenosis of both common carotid arteries. Severe retinal hemorrhage appeared on the second post operative day combined with high blood pressure, brain edema on CT scan and grand mal seizures. It seems that fundoscopic examination following carotid revascularization of tight can be helpful in identifying those patients who develop symptoms suggesting of CHPS.

Abstract:

This paper presents two new non-iterative approximations of the power flow in a network. Real and reactive power are simultaneously modelled in complex equations. Also, resistances are not set to zero. This is a generalization of the DC approximation, where only real power is modelled with zero line resistance. Hence the proposed approximations are more accurate than the DC approximation. The voltage lag over a link in a short, low voltage, network link is ten times as accurate as with the DC approximation. In the Appendix a new mathematical constant is introduced.

Abstract: The last ten years of moderate to low precipitation rates in Israel may be a confirmation of the forecast, based on historical data, that recent, repeated droughts are a function of global warming. In this case the conventional policy of “Sustainable Development” is not sufficient to avert the impact of diminution of precipitation on Israel’s water supply. Instead, a policy of “Progressive Development” is proposed, which aims to exploit, stage by stage, first the water resources most available and at lowest cost until they are ex-hausted. Once this stage is under execution, progressive steps are taken to develop more costly resources by advanced methods of exploitation. A case study of such a development plan is the controlled deterioration of the water quality of the coastal plain aquifer of Israel.

Abstract: In response to Wheeler’s challenge to find an element that is: “something that itself has no localization in space and time…pure knowledge … an atom of information” we suggest to account for Information as a di-mension. Its degrees of freedom are arithmetical (+-) and logical (if-then) forward and backward steps. While Space refers to gaps in distance, Time refers to change in instances, Information refers to a sequence of notions measured by the number of steps made (or bytes used) by a computer in order to perform (de-scribe or solve) a certain logical sentence or a sequence of logical sentences. In the attempt to quantifiably formulate the incorporation of Information into physical laws, we refer to Hamiltonian extended stationary principle in terms of Space, Time and an additional degree of freedom, suggested as an information state. The obtained Euler equation is demonstrated for the case of a thin rod under longitudinal vibrations, investi-gated by dimensionless analysis. It is shown that depending on the value of information and its rate, one may obtain dominant forms conforming to Poison’s equation in Space vs Information, wave equation in Time vs Information and the expected wave equation in Time vs Space.

Abstract: Species migrating across boundaries represent the classic case for international cooperation in biodiversity conservation. Climate change is adding fresh challenges to such cooperation, on account of the shifting ranges and particular vulnerabilities to climate change of migratory wildlife. In view of the need to help migratory species adapt to climate change with minimal losses, this article performs an in-depth analysis of the present and potential future role in respect of climate adaptation of the main intergovernmental regime for migratory species conservation, the 1979 Bonn Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and its various daughter instruments.

Abstract: in a world where population growth is outstripping food supply agricultural -and especially plant-biotechnology, needs to be swiftly implemented in all walks of life. achievements today in plant biotechnology have already surpassed all previous expectations, and the future is even more promising. the full realisation of the agricultural biotechnology revolution depends on both continued successful and innovative research and development activities and on a favourable regulatory climate and public acceptance. biotechnology should be fully integrated with classical physiology and breeding: (1) as an aid to classical breeding, (2) for generation of engineered organisms, (3) for integration of microorganisms into agricultural production systems. biotechnology is nowadays changing the agricultural and plant scene in three major areas: (1) growth and development control (vegetative, generative and reproduction/propagation), (2) protecting plants against the ever-increasing threats of abiotic and biotic stress, (3) expanding the horizons by producing specialty foods, biochemicals and pharmaceuticals.
