Morphological Characters and Histology of Pheretima darnleiensis

Abstract: Pheretima darnleiensis is a native earthworm of Southeast Asia, India, and Japan. Although it is commonly found in Indonesia, the earthworm has never been studied well. This study was aimed to examine the morphological characters and structure of its several organs for an identification purpose, which is important for the earthworm culture. Earthworms were collected in a plot of 55-150 x 55-150 cm width and 20 cm depth at Bogor Agricultural University in Darmaga and Baranangsiang Campuses by hand sorting method. Examinations were carried out on its external as well as internal characters. The histology of the organs was studied using paraffin method. The observed characters on P. darnleiensis were the presence of prostate gland, one pair of male pores on segment XVIII, a cylindrical body with perichaetine setae, caeca on segment XXVII, copulatory pouches without diverticula and stalked glands, bithecal spermatheca with nephridia, and the first spermathecal pore on segment 4/5. In addition, other characters found on P. darnleiensis were the presence of an annular clitellum on segment XIV-XVI, an epilobus prostomium with open base, approximately 40 single pointed setae on segment XIII, one midventral female pore on segment XIV, one pair of lateroventral male pores on segment XVIII, four pairs of lateroventral spermathecal pores on segment 4/5, 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, and the first middorsal dorsal pore on segment 12/13. The histology of P. darnleiensis showed basic structure as found in other earthworms.

Abstract: The Biological Communication Behavior of the Left and the Right Brains have been constructed through the explanation of the phenomena of their specific part activities encompassing: Prefrontal, Frontal, Parietal, Central, Occipital and Parasagital which have been significantly tested in terms of their impacts in learning acceleration starting from Elementary School to University levels. This study is conducted by means of constructive approach and it employs both the quantitative and qualitative techniques. The result of the study shows that the biological communication of the left and the right brains are reliably tested scientifically from the viewpoint of science. The Problem Based Learning start from elementary school to university level of both social and science groups.

Abstract: The recent electronic or digital technology has changed the life of contemporary society. From here, a new variant of cultural form is born as a consequence of the intensification of technology usage in everyday activities. This situation is then ended up with the paradigm shift of society’s perceptions, experience, and consciousness in almost all aspect of life, including the spatial discourse. The discourse of spatiality in the digital era becomes significant as it also repositions the conventional human spatial experience and consciousness in everyday life. Furthermore, this new spatial discourse may also appear as an opportunity to determine the learning space in the digital era. This paper emphasizes the topic on the information technology development and its impact on the forming of technoculture. The discussion will then be continued to the spatial discourse in digital era and its contribution in rethinking the learning space, especially the space of design process in academic. Lastly, the paper formulates the hexagonal model as the alternative of expanding the conventional space of design process and learning.

The study focused on Pattern Analysis Relationships between Basic Element Institutional Excellence in Education with a focus of the study: What is the actual profile of the basic elements of excellence of educational institutions, influence leadership, strategic planning, as well as students and focus stakeholders, focus staffs and faculty in order to develop the image Parahyangan University (UNPAR) performance by reference to the Performance Excellence Criteria for Education. The method used a qualitative approach and quantitative approach [1] with two models using qualitative-quantitative approaches, namely: two-phase design, dominant-les dominant design, and mixed methodology design. Respondents and the information in this study are a lecturer and head of the University.

Anti-arthritic effects of Musa paradisiaca sapientum L. and Aloe vera L. in adjuvant-induced arthritic rats

Abstract: Anti-arthritic effects of Musa paradisiaca sapientum L. and Aloe vera L. on the index responses of arthritic were investigated using adjuvant-induced arthritic rats. M. paradisiaca sapientum and A. vera pulp were blended into juice then the juices were administered orally on 17-30th day. To evaluate anti-arthritic effect of the juice, an arthritic rat model was developed using Complete Freund Adjuvant on 1-16th day. In addition, the research was divided into groups (n=5) including normal control groups, positive control groups, negative control groups, 3 groups were treated by M. paradisiaca juice at 50, 100, 200 mg/kgBW doses and the other groups were treated by A. vera juices at 1, 2 and 4 mg/kgBW doses. The indexes of arthritic were determined on 17th and 31st days then analyzed using ANOVA test and t test (p<0.05). The result showed that the indexes of arthritic rats were evidently decreased by either M. sapientum or A. vera juice. Moreover, indexes of arthritic to be closely restored to the normal levels through M. paradisiaca treatment at 50 mg/kg BW dose. In conclusion, both of juice is found to be effective in decreasing the inflammatory response and arthritic symptoms in adjuvant-induced arthritic rats.
Comparison of the Stochastic Models for Double-Differenced GPS Measurements

Abstract: Double-differenced GPS carrier phase measurements are commonly used in GPS precise positioning applications and processed with algorithms based on the least-squares (LS) principle. In order to apply the LS principle, one needs to define properly both the functional and stochastic models. Whilst the functional model for precise GPS positioning is sufficiently well known, realistic stochastic modeling is still a difficult task to accomplish in practice. Incorrect stochastic models for double-differenced GPS measurements will lead to unreliable estimates for ambiguity resolution and, eventually, it will bias positioning results. The common assumption when we construct the stochastic model is that all raw GPS measurements are independent and have the same variances. In fact, this is not realistic, since due to varying noise levels measurements obtained from different GPS satellites cannot have the same accuracy. A realistic stochastic modeling should be able to capture the ordinary noises in the observables. In order to specify a realistic stochastic model for precise relative GPS positioning applications, in this paper the performance of three stochastic models namely the commonly used model or the standard model, the outer product of residual data vector model and Minimum Norm Quadratic Unbiased Estimation (MINQUE) are examined and effects of each the proposed model on statistic for ambiguity search and positioning accuracy are compared. The results indicate that the MINQUE model tends to perform better than the other models. Using the MINQUE model, the reliability of the ambiguity resolution and the statistics of the baseline components can be improved. It may suggest that the MINQUE model, which is based on modern statistical theory, is capable of capturing the ordinary noises.

Abstract: Direct primary care (DPC) is a market based approach to providing medical care. Patients avoid insurance and directly pay a monthly membership type of fee to physicians for unlimited access. DPC practices have been growing throughout the United States by claiming to be better for patients and primary care physicians. This paper looks into the ethical implications of such practices and explores future moral concerns if DPC continues to expand. Finally, from a societal perspective, regulated universal coverage, as provided in countries such as Japan, is examined as a way to achieve most of the benefits of DPC while avoiding many of the problems.
Differences between In-Field and Out-of-Field History Teachers Influence on Students Learning Experience in Malaysian Secondary Schools  [PDF]

The focus of this study was to investigate whether there were differences between the way in-field and out-of-field teachers in Malaysian secondary schools perceived and practiced History education, and the way their students perceived the teaching and learning of History.Both, teacher and student data were examined. A statistical analysis was conducted to validate the survey and test the relationships between variables. The results showed that there were significant differences between in-field and out-of-field teachers in the teacher characteristics of experience and student variables of classroom climate and History learning outcomes, but not on teaching approaches and methods.

Analisis Kecepatan Bottom Block Terhadap Struktur Mikro Produk Direct Chill Casting

Abstract: Direct chill casting process is used to produce to ingot. To produce to ingot is influenced such as bottom block speed. The objective of this research is to examine to ingot's microstructures. To use to bottom block speed is 57 mm/min and 67 mm/min. The pouring temperature of melt aluminum alloys is 750oC. Water flow rate is constant. Testing specimen is round shape which diameter and length each 70 mm and 400 mm. Microstructures on longitudinal and transversal round is investigated. Generally, microstructures of product of Direct Casting Process is non-uniform dendritic. Grain shape of 67 mm/minute bottom block rate is larger than 57 mm/minute bottom block rate. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Proses Direct Chill Casting digunakan untuk menghasilkan ingot. Proses pembuatan ingot ini dipengaruhi antara lain kecepatan bottom block. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati pengaruh kecepatan bottom block terhadap struktur mikro ingot. Kecepatan bottom block yang digunakan 57 mm/menit dan 67 mm/menit. Temperatur tuang paduan aluminium 750oC. Debit air konstan. Spesimen uji berbentuk round dengan diameter 70 mm dan panjang 400 mm. Struktur mikro yang diamati pada ke arah longitudinal dan transversal round. Struktur mikro yang dihasilkan proses direct chill casting secara umum adalah dendritik yang tidak seragam. Bentuk butir kecepatan bottom block 67 mm/menit lebih besar daripada kecepatan bottom block 57 mm/menit. Kata kunci: direct chill casting, struktur mikro, kecepatan bottom block.
Nitrogen and Phosphorous Movement Characteristic in Terrace Paddy Field Using Cascade Irrigation System in West Sumatra, Indonesia

Abstract: West Sumatra is one of Indonesian rice bowl. The landscape of this province dominated by mountainous area with beautiful terrace paddy field lied from the middle slope to the lowland. The most common rice cultivation management in this area is application of cascade irrigation system with blanked amount of chemical fertilizer application. This study intends to figure out, whether this kind of paddy field management sustains and friendly to the environment or not. The results showed that cascade irrigation system created some discrepancies in suspended solid (SS), dissolve organic matter (DOM) and the nutrient movement characteristic a long the slope. The SS and DOM load and discharge strongly influenced by land preparation activities, while total and available nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) affected by chemical fertilizer application. In the upper part, the amount of chemical fertilizer seemed sufficient, indicated by negative amount of nutrient balance, while lower terrace show some indication of excess nutrient input. To avoid some demerit of cascade irrigation system, chemical fertilizer application should be base on site specific characteristic and taking into account of natural source contribution.
