Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/as.2010.13012
Abstract: The objective of this work is to present an appropriate set of RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) markers using single and multiplex PCR analysis suitable for the characterization of the endemic Cuban species Carica cubensis and the establishment of genetic relationships with the cultivated species Carica papaya. RAPD markers presented a high level of polymorphism. In addition, the incorporation of more than one RAPD primer in the PCR analysis increased the number of obtained bands and the polymorphism of these bands. A total of 73 RAPD bands were detected (45 of them polymorphic) with the nine RAPD markers assayed using single and multiplex PCR analysis. Results demonstrated a reduced genetic variability within the tested Carica cubensis accessions. The observed clustering in this species could be better explained according to geographic proximity and can indicate the similar precedence of the isolated studied populations. C. cubensis seem to be subspecies of C. papaya adapted to the environmental conditions of the mountains of Cuba or a endemic species close to C. papaya. The implications of these results in the creation of effective germplasm core collection in Carica species have been also discussed.

Abstract: this article concentrates on the notion of complexity of the noun phrase, stressing its relevance as a style marker within newspaper english in a corpus of headlines from the british daily newspapers the times, daily express and the sun, with special reference to hard news stories. noun phrase complexity is examined under the theoretical framework reported in quirk et al. (1972, 1985). on the basis of structural analysis of noun phrases, i focus upon the variation of simple and complex noun phrases. in this way, the main aim of this work is to analyse possible differences between noun phrases in verbal and nominal headlines, and to show which types of headlines are preferred in which types of newspapers to an extent that is significant for the characterisation of the variety of headlines exhibited by these different newspapers

Abstract: located within the framework of systemic functional linguistics (halliday, 1994; iedema, fezz y white, 1994; martin, 2000; white, 2003) appraisal theory constitutes a valuable theoretical and analytic tool in the study of evaluation in language. this approach elaborates on the notion of interpersonal meaning and explores, describes and explains the way language is used to evaluate, to adopt stances, to construct textual personas and to manage interpersonal positionings and relationships. more particularly, appraisal is concerned with the language of attitude and emotion. in this context, this work examines evaluative resources in the broad semantic domain of attitude, focussing upon the data provided by british national newspapers comment articles. further, this paper intends to show the role evaluative meanings play in the dissemination of ideology, in the constitution of textual styles and authorial identities, and in the negotiation of writer/reader relationships.

Abstract: the aim of this article is to show how the atmosphere that surrounds the introduction of new scientific theories in spain in the last third of the 19th century is contaminated by prejudices that are external to science. the age, characterized by a series of intellectual, political and ideological controversies that generally affect every aspect of life, show various episodes that generate disputes, facing the introduction of new scientific ideas. by those years, spain lives an age of changes and reflection at different levels, and amongst them, scientific and technologic issues; the last fourth of the century stands out by the social and political compromise of those who are a part of scientific, literary and intellectual spheres, a compromise that usually becomes activism. naturalism and the discussion about the new aesthetical movement share some of the critics received by darwinism in scientific and academic spheres. here it is proposed a revision of such episodes, as well as a view on the main literary expressions of the age, in order to analyze in which way science is represented at this field of cultural production.

Located within the framework of systemic functional linguistics (Halliday, 1994; Iedema, Fezz y White, 1994; Martin, 2000; White, 2003) Appraisal Theory constitutes a valuable theoretical and analytic tool in the study of evaluation in language. This article concentrates on the notion of complexity of the noun phrase, stressing its relevance as a style marker within newspaper English in a corpus of headlines from the British daily newspapers The Times, Daily Express and The Sun, with special reference to hard news stories. Abstract: The constraints on the number of neutrinos generations, g'1 coupling and Z?- Z′ mixing angle through the invisible width method, and in the framework of a U(1)B-L model are obtained. Based on the experimental value reported by the LEP for the rate \"\", we obtained a bound on the g'1 coupling, \"\". In addition, we derive 90% C.L. bounds on the Z?- Z′ mixing angle \"\", improving the existing bounds by one order of magnitude.

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.312244
Abstract:

In this work the neutral-current scattering cross-section for neutrinos on electrons is calculated assuming that a massive Dirac neutrino is characterized by a phenomenological parameters, a charge radius < r2> and the right-handed currents are present in the framework of a Left-Right symmetric model (LR). Using the CHARM II result for the charge radius of the muon-neutrino |< r2>|6.0×10-33cm2, we place a bound on -7.9×10-33cm2≤< r2>LR7.9×10-33cm2. We discuss the relationship between the electron neutral couplings gVeV and gVeA and the LR model parameters. We also estimate a bound on the heavy massive neutral vector boson mass MZR650GeV of the LR model. These results have never been reported in the literature before and could have practical or theoretical interest, such as in the case of the neutrinos produced in core-collapse supernova explosions, that is to say, right-handed Dirac neutrinos emission from supernova core vLe-
