Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: In this study polyphenol content, antioxidant activity, lipoxygenase (LOX) and Xanthine Oxidase (XO) inhibitory effects of n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions of aqueous acetone extracts from S. alba L., S. acuta Burn f. and Cienfuegosia digitata Cav. were investigated. The total phenolics, flavonoids, flavonols and total tannins were determined by spectrophotometric methods using Folin-ciocalteu, AlCl3 reagents and tannic acid, respectively. The antioxidant potential was evaluated using three methods: inhibition of free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydramzyl (DPPH), ABTS radical cation decolorization assay and Iron (III) to iron (II) reduction activity (FRAP). For enzymatic activity, lipoxygenase and xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities were used. This study shows a relationship between polyphenol contents, antioxidant and enzymatic activities. Present results showed that ethyl acetate and dichloromethane fractions elicit the highest polyphenol content, antioxidant and enzymatic activities.
On the eigenvalues of Euclidean distance matrices
Alfakih, A.Y.;
Computational & Applied Mathematics , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-82052008000300001
Abstract: in this paper, the notion of equitable partitions (ep) is used to study the eigenvalues of euclidean distance matrices (edms). in particular, ep is used to obtain the characteristic polynomials of regular edms and non-spherical centrally symmetric edms. the paper also presents methods for constructing cospectral edms and edms with exactly three distinct eigenvalues.

A.Y. Hassan
Organic Chemistry Insights , 2012, DOI: 10.4137/OCI.S4729
Abstract: The reaction of 4,5-diphenylimidazol-2-thione 1 with chloroacetic acid in presence of acetic acid and sodium acetate afforded 5,6-diphenylimidazo [2,1-b]thiazole-3-one 3. Compound 3, when treated with acetic anhydride in presence of sodium acetate, dimethyl formamide dimethylacetal (DMFDMA), thiophene-2-carbaldehyde and 2-thenylidene activated nitriles gave 5,6-diphenylimidazo[2,1-b] thiazole derivatives 4, 6, 8 and 7,8-diphenyl imidazo[2,1-b] thiazolo [2,3-b] pyran derivatives 9e,f, 10. Claisen condensation of compound 4 with diethyl oxalate gives 7,8-diphenylimidazo [2,1-b] thiazolo [2,3-b]-4-pyron derivatives 5a,b. While, 6,7-diphenylimidazo[2,1-b] thiazolo[2,3-c] oxazole or (N-phenylpyrazole) 7c,d were obtained directly upon reaction of 6 with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and phenyl hydrazine. Compound 1 reacted with α-chloroacetylacetone and α-chloroethylacetoacetate to give 2-acetyl or (2- ethoxycarbonyl) 3-methyl-5,6-diphenylimidazo[2,1-b] thiazole 12h,i. Treatment of 12h with thiophene-2-carbaldehyde led to the formation of 3-methyl-5, 6-diphenyl-2(2-thenylidene-2-propenoyl) imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole 13h. Compound 13h react with each of 2-chlorophenyl hydrazine and benzamidine hydrochloride to give 14h and 15h. Cyclocondensation of 12h with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and hydrazine hydrate gave 16j and 16k. The newly synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial and antifungal activity. Most of the tested compounds showed activity toward fungi while many of these did not have activity toward bacteria.

A HYDROGEN SENSITIVE Pd/GaN SCHOTTKY DIODE SENSOR
A.Y. Hudeish,A. Abdul Aziz
Journal of Physical Science , 2006,
Abstract: In this work, theforward current of Pd/GaN Schottky diodes is foundto increase significantly upon introduction of H into an Nambient. Analysis of the current-voltage characteristics as a function oftemperature shows that the current increase is due to adecrease in effective barrier height through a reduction in metalwork function upon absorption of hydrogen. 22 Experimental results also reveal that during the hydride formation process, the forward current is increased by the increase of temperature for hydrogen. This work also demonstrates that the Schottky barrier height indeed increases with increasing temperatures, and the resistance of the Pd/n-GaN device decreases with increasing temperature.
Pharmacokinetics of Cefquinome in Camels
A.Y. Al-Taher
Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/javaa.2010.848.852
Abstract: The Pharmacokinetic characters of cefquinome were studied in camels following single intramuscular administration of 1 mg kg-1 b.wt. Cefquinome concentrations in serum were determined by microbiological assay using Micrococcus luteus (ATCC 9341) as test organism. After intramuscular administration, the mean peak serum Concentrations (Cmax) was 1.23 μg mL-1 and achieved after (tmax) 4.25 h. The absorption half life (tl/2(ab)) was 4.35 h and the elimination half-life (tl/2(el)) was 10.24 h. The Mean Residence Time (MRT) was 16.74 h and area under curve from zero time to infinity (AUC0-∞) was 20.37 μg/mL/h. The serum concentrations of cefquinome along 24 h post-injection in this study was exceeding the MICs of different susceptible micro-organisms responsible for serious disease problems. These findings indicate the suitability of successful use of this antibiotic in camels. A recommended single daily dose of 1 mg kg-1 of cefquinome given intramuscularly can achieve quite therapeutic concentrations in serum, that exceeding the minimal inhibitory concentrations against different susceptible pathogens.
Protection of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensated Transmission Lines using Support Vector Machine
A.Y. Abdelaziz,Amr M. Ibrahim
International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications , 2013,
Abstract: Recently, series compensation is widely used in transmission. However, this creates several problems to conventional protection approaches. This paper presents overcurrent and distance protection schemes, for fault classification in transmission lines with thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) using support vector machine (SVM). The fault classification task is divided into four separate subtasks (SVMa, SVMb, SVMc and SVMg), where the state of each phase and ground is determined by an individual SVM. The polynomial kernel SVM is designed to provide the optimal classification conditions. Wide variations of load angle, fault inception angle, fault resistance and fault location have been carried out with different types of faults using PSCAD/EMTDC program. Backward faults have also been included in the data sets. The proposed technique is tested and the results verify its fastness, accuracy and robustness.

Managing the Performance of Nigerian Universities For Sustainable Development Using Data Envelopment Analysis
A.Y. Abdulkareem,S. Oyeniran
International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences , 2011,
Abstract: This paper examines Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a tool for managing performance of Nigerian universities. It posits that performance assessment of the universities through periodicaccreditation exercise is proving inadequate to meet developmental challenges at national and global levels .The universities could be able to play their roles effectively if they identify and strive towards improving socio-economic and political needs of the country. University education should also prepare its recipients for present and future needs. These aspirations could be actualized through the use of DEA which is capable of measuring and controlling performance of members of an organization. It is also capable of monitoring inputs, processes and outputs in such university programmes as teaching, research and community services. Its use is therefore recommended for Nigerian universities in order to be able to attain sustainable development.
