Abstract: despite much progress in therapy, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, the most common leukemia in the western world, remains incurable. the use of fludarabine alone or associated to cyclophosphamide and/or mitoxantrone or doxorubicin improved the objective response, including complete response (also molecular) and the progression- and relapse-free-survival. several authors have suggested the introduction of monoclonal antibodies in order to improve the results. despite that, all treated patients will further relapse or progress and salvage treatment should be used. in the present state-of-the art, salvage treatment is similar to those used as front line therapy. indeed the criteria to start treatment are the same as defined by nci for the front line therapy. fludarabine alone or associated should be the therapy of choice for relapsed patients also for those previously treated with fludarabine. the use of monoclonal antibodies particularly rituximab is a good option although this procedure has not been considered as the standard therapy until now. alemtuzumab is a very efficient monoclonal antibody and promotes significant benefits in clinical and hematological responses also in heavily treated or fludarabine refractory patients. the hpct has limited indication due to the risks of high dose therapy in elderly patients. autologous hpct may be used specifically in young patients, if possible in complete remission, in order to improve the progression- or disease-free-survival. conventional or with reduced intensity allogeneic hpct may be used in patients presenting with a sibling donor particularly those under 60 years old, in fludarabine refractory patients or in patients presenting with unfavorable cytogenetics (17p-), with a curative objective.

Abstract: this study analyses the relation between the streams/low-level jets (llj) at the 850 and 950 hpa levels with the "k" index. the mechanism associated with the streams/llj transports the heat and water vapor, increasing the humidity in the low troposphere. this humidity in the low troposphere to affect directly the "k" index. profiles of air temperature and dew point were used by radiosonde measurement at salgado filho international airport in porto alegre. the "k" index was calculated at 21:00 and 09:00 hrs, local time, during 176 days and compared with daily precipitation in porto alegre. to describe the relations involved, the study uses statistical method non-hierarchical classification to separate the cluster data of the time series that characterize the variety of the k's index with the precipitation. the result display to be important of the transport by streams/llj at the 950 hpa; it characterizes a mechanism of the convergence and to produce the convection in the planetary boundary layer (pbl).

Abstract: the occurrence of a rare ovarian abscess, spontaneously drained through the vagina after an abdominal hysterectomy is described.the treatment was an oophorectomy.the various forms of primary ovarian abscess are discussed in connection with these observations. this case illustrates the need for adequate manipulation of the gonad during pelvic surgery in order to avoid parenchymal contamination and the subsequent formation of such abscesses.

Abstract: In 1949, Feshbach and collaborators proposed the optical model of nuclear reactions, in which the atomic nucleus isseen as an opaque sphere capable of reflecting or absorbing the incident particles, where the potential which describesthe reaction has a complex term, the latter being responsible for the absorption. The mathematical structure of theoptical potential is complicated, being the result of a sum over all contributions to interaction energies of the partnersinvolved in the reaction. It can also be obtained by quantum mechanical formalism developed by Feshebach, but that isonly approximate.

Abstract: In recent years coastal oceanographers have suggested the use of the "Strouhal" number or it's inverse the "Stokes" number, which have been defined as the ratios of the frictional depth (δ) to the water column depth (h) or vice versa, to describe the effect of bottom boundary layer turbulence on the vertical structure of both density and currents. Although they have mention that the effects of rotation should be important, they have tended to omit it. This omission may be important when talking about tidal currents as the frictional depth from a fully cyclonic to a fully anticyclonic tidal ellipse can vary up to an order of magnitude in the mid latitudes; so that the stokes number might appear smaller (larger) than it is resulting in frictional effects being underestimated (overestimated). Here a way to calculate a Stokes number, in which the effect of the Earth's rotation is taken into account, is suggested. Then the standard Stokes and the rotational Stokes numbers are used as predictors for the position of the tidal mixing fronts in the Irish Sea. Results show that the rotational number improves prediction of the front in shallow cyclonic areas of the eastern Irish Sea. This suggest that the effect of rotation on the water column structure will be more important in shallow shelf seas and estuaries with strong rotational currents.

STUDY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS USED IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES AT LIBREVILLE (GABON): AN ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL APPROACH

Abstract: This work was conducted at a Libreville herbal market located in Peyrie in order to inventory plants used by people for the management of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and to evaluate their pharmacological effects. The method of preparation and modes of administration were also recorded. Twenty nine herbalists were interviewed using questionnaires. Twenty two plant species belonging to sixteen families and seventeen recipes were identified. The commonly used plants were Guibourtia tessmannii, Musanga ceropioiodes, Senecio gabonensis. Among them, G. tessmannii appeared to be the most used plant species. Phytochemical studies on extracts of G. tessmannii revealed the presence of alkaloids, sugars, polyphenols, sterols, tannins and saponosids. Pharmacological studies performed in the isolated aorta of rats showed a vasorelaxant effect on adrenalin- or KCl- induced contraction. G Tessmannii-induced vasorelaxation was significantly but not totally reduced by endothelium removal or by a pretreatment with L-NAME, suggesting the involvement of endothelium-dependent and -independent mechanisms. Medicinal plants and G. tessmannii in particular may represent a source of efficient antihypertensive agents.
Quantum propagator for some classes of three-dimensional three-body systems

Abstract: In this work we solve exactly a class of three-body propagators for the most general quadratic interactions in the coordinates, for arbitrary masses and couplings. This is done both for the constant as the time-dependent couplings and masses, by using the Feynman path integral formalism. Finally the energy spectrum and the eigenfunctions are recovered from the propagators.
