MATHEMATICAL MODELLING IN BRUSSELATOR CHEMICAL DYNAMICS SYSTEM USING HOMOTOPY ANALYSIS METHOD

Abstract: The Brusselator equations, originally studied as a model for chemical dynamics, exhibit a wide range of behavior. In this paper, a powerful analytical method, called Homotopy analysis method (HAM) is used to solve the system of nonlinear differential equations. Furthermore, in this work the numerical simulation of the problem is also reported using Scilab/Matlab program. Our analytical results are compared with simulation results. A good agreement between analytical and numerical results is noted. Keywords: Chemical dynamics; Mathematical modeling; Brusselator equation; Non-linear reaction- diffusion equation; Homotopy analysis method.
Subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis due to Exophiala spinifera in an immunocompromised host

Abstract: A case of phaeohyphomycosis presenting as multiple subcutaneous abscesses in a young lady with deteriorating liver function was reported here. The lesion started as a solitary abscess in the neck, mimicking tuberculous cold abscess and rapidly involved the face, chest, arms, and legs within six months with ulceration and discharge of thick brownish foul smelling pus. Potassium hydroxide mount of pus from various sites revealed septate dematiaceous hyphae and pseudohyphae. Culture yielded pure growth of Exophiala spinifera. Tissue debridement was done along with initiation of antifungal therapy with ketoconazole. As liver function deteriorated, antifungal therapy was withdrawn after seven days. Patient expired three weeks after admission due to hepatic failure.

Abstract: Partially purified methanolic extract of Cissus quadrangularis (belonging to Vitaceae member, South Indian medicinal plant) have been explored for antiviral activity and their phytochemical characterisation. In vitro antiviral activity against HSV type1 and 2, and Vero cells at non-cytotoxic concentration were determined. HSV1 and HSV2 showed more sensitivity against the partially purified compound. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of the Steroids and Terpenoids.
Comparision of Polymerase Chain Reaction and Agar Gel Immunodiffusion test in Detection of MarekAND#8217;s Disease Virus

Abstract: A study was undertaken to identify Marek’s disease virus (MDV) antigen by PCR and AGID and to test the significance of PCR and AGID by McNemar’s test in detection of MDV antigen in outbreak in layer flocks. A total of twelve different MD outbreak flocks with varying flock size were selected in this study. Feather follicles were collected from 10 apparently healthy birds, 10 clinically affected birds and 10 dead birds separately in each outbreak. All the samples were subjected to PCR and AGID. In PCR, 42 (35.00%), 68 (56.67%) and 106 (88.33%) samples were positive to MDV in apparently healthy birds, clinically affected birds and dead birds respectively and in AGID 28 (23.33%), 56 (46.67%) and 98 (81.67%) samples were positive to MDV in apparently healthy birds, clinically affected birds and dead birds respectively. In testing the significance of PCR and AGID in detecting MDV, significant difference existed between the two tests in feather tips of apparently healthy birds (P < 0.05), whereas there was no significant difference between PCR and AGID in detection of MDV in feather tips of clinically affected and dead birds (P > 0.05). Hence, PCR can be used to screen MDV in apparently healthy birds and AGID can be used to screen MDV in clinically affected and dead birds keeping feasibility and economic consideration. [Vet. Abstract: A semi strong outer mod sum labeling of a graph $G$ is an injective mapping$f:V(G)rightarrow Z^+$ with an additional property that foreach vertex $v$ of $G$, there exist vertices $w_1$, $w_2$ in$V(G)$ such that $f(w_1) = sum_{uin N(v)}f(u)$ and $f(v)=sum_{uin N(w_2)}f(u)$, where both the sums are taken underaddition modulo $m$ for some positive integer $m$. A graph $G$which admits a semi strong outer mod sum labeling is called asemi strong outer mod sum graph. In this paper we show that thePaths $P_n$ for all $n neq 3$, the Cycle $C_6 $, and theComplete graphs $K_n$ for all $nne 3$ are semi strong outermod sum graphs.
Evaluation of various screening tests to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women

Abstract: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of various screening tests in detecting asymptomatic bacteriuria among pregnant women. Clean catch midstream urine specimens were collected from 630 consecutive pregnant women and processed. Forty-four (7.4%) of the urine samples were culture positive, with Escherichia coli as the predominant organism isolated (57.4%). The results of the four screening tests, viz., Gram′s staining of uncentrifuged urine, pus cell count, nitrite test and leukocyte esterase (LE) test, were compared against urine culture. Gram′s stain of the uncentrifuged urine was found to be the single most useful test with a sensitivity and negative predictive value (NPV) of 85.1% and 98.8%, respectively. Pus cell count was the least sensitive. Neither the nitrite test nor the LE test alone was sensitive enough with 74.4% and 61.7%, respectively. However, when either or both tests positive were considered, it increased the sensitivity and NPV comparable with Gram′s staining results, with 82.9% and 98.8%, respectively. With the potential to be used as an office diagnostic procedure, the combined nitrite and LE dipstick test may provide an acceptable alternative.
Determining efficient solutions to multiple objective linear programming problems

It provides efficientsolution line segments to the problem with the percentage level of satisfaction ofeach of the objective at each point on it which is very much useful to decisionmakers for choosing an efficient solution according to their level of satisfaction onthe objective functions. Illustrative example is presented to clarify the idea of theproposed approach.
Hapln1a Is Required for Connexin43-Dependent Growth and Patterning in the Regenerating Fin Skeleton

Abstract: Cell–cell communication, facilitating the exchange of small metabolites, ions and second messengers, takes place via aqueous proteinaceous channels called gap junctions. Connexins (cx) are the subunits of a gap junction channel. Mutations in zebrafish cx43 produces the short fin (sof b123) phenotype and is characterized by short fins due to reduced segment length of the bony fin rays and reduced cell proliferation. Previously established results from our lab demonstrate that Cx43 plays a dual role regulating both cell proliferation (growth) and joint formation (patterning) during the process of skeletal morphogenesis. In this study, we show that Hapln1a (Hyaluronan and Proteoglycan Link Protein 1a) functions downstream of cx43. Hapln1a belongs to the family of link proteins that play an important role in stabilizing the ECM by linking the aggregates of hyaluronan and proteoglycans. We validated that hapln1a is expressed downstream of cx43 by in situ hybridization and quantitative RT-PCR methods. Moreover, in situ hybridization at different time points revealed that hapln1a expression peaks at 3 days post amputation. Expression of hapln1a is located in the medial mesenchyme and the in the lateral skeletal precursor cells. Furthermore, morpholino mediated knock-down of hapln1a resulted in reduced fin regenerate length, reduced bony segment length and reduced cell proliferation, recapitulating all the phenotypes of cx43 knock-down. Moreover, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) levels are dramatically reduced in hapln1a knock-down fins, attesting the importance of Hapln1a in stabilizing the ECM. Attempts to place hapln1a in our previously defined cx43–sema3d pathway suggest that hapln1a functions in a parallel genetic pathway. Collectively, our data suggest that Cx43 mediates independent Sema3d and Hapln1a pathways in order to coordinate skeletal growth and patterning.
Role of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography in Epilepsy

Abstract: Molecular imaging with ictal single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is an established functional imaging modality for the presurgical evaluation of patients with refractory partial onset seizures. SPECT coregistered on to the MRI has greater sensitivity to identify the ictal onset zone. Ictal SPECT should always be interpreted in the context of other presurgical investigations. Ictal SPECT is sensitive method for the lateralization of TLE, but ictal SPECT is more sensitive when MRI is normal. Ictal SPECT and interictal PET are complementary to each other in lateralizing the side in patients with TLE and normal MRI. In extratemporal epilepsy, ictal SPECT will guide the placement of surface grid and depth electrodes. 1. Introduction Molecular imaging with ictal and interictal single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is an established functional imaging modality for the presurgical evaluation of patients with refractory partial onset seizures. Ictal SPECT has the potential to localize the ictal onset zone noninvasively and accurately and provides complementary data during multimodality evaluation of the epileptogenic zone. Ictal SPECT is more sensitive than structural imaging [1] but gives little indication about the underlying pathology. SPECT co-registered on to the MRI has greater sensitivity to identify the ictal onset zone. It is usually assumed that the largest and most intense ictal hyperperfusion region is the ictal onset zone. Ictal SPECT injection should be performed in the video EEG unit by trained technicians. The dye should be injected fast [2, 3]. High resolution SPECT and MRI scanner are important with a need for good cooperation between neurology and nuclear medicine departments for a successful programme to be implemented. 2. Brain Perfusion Tracers The brain perfusion tracers that cross the blood brain barrier with a long retention time in the brain are 99mtechnetium (99m TC-labeled agents). The two commonly used tracers are 99mhexamethylene propylene amino (99mTC-HMPAO) and 99mTC-ethyl cysteinate dimer (99mTC-ECD). 99mTC-ECD is stable 6 to 8 hours and 99mTC-HMPAO for 4 hours. 99mTC-ECD is cleared from the body more rapidly than 99m TC HMPAO and gives a higher brain to soft tissue activity ratio, and this improves the image quality [4] D.S.Lee et al. found that 99mTC-HMPAO ictal SPECT was superior to 99mTC-ECD ictal SPECT for localization of epileptogenic zone [5]. Application of Modified Simulated Annealing to the Biclustering of Gene Expression Data

Abstract: In a gene expression data matrix a bicluster is a submatrix of genes and conditions that exhibits a high correlation of expression activity across both rows and columns. The problem of locating the most significant bicluster has been shown to be NP-complete. Heuristic approaches such as Cheng and Church s greedy node deletion algorithm have been previously employed. It is to be expected that stochastic search techniques such as evolutionary algorithms or simulated annealing might improve upon such greedy techniques. In this study we show that an approach based on modified simulated annealing is well suited to this problem and we present a comparative evaluation of simulated annealing and node deletion. We show that modified simulated annealing discovers more significant biclusters.
