Quality of Employment: Strategies and Interpretations of Spanish Employers and Trade Unions Calidad del Empleo: Estrategias e interpretaciones de los empleadores espa oles y Sindicatos
María Arnal,Carlos Prieto,María Caprile
Revista Internacional de Organizaciones , 2013,
Abstract: This article examines the different discourses of trade unions and employers on quality of employment in Spain. The study takes a qualitative approach, using discussion groups to obtain discursive information about the meanings of quality, assessments and the different strategies employed by social agents. Trade unions use the ‘quality discourse’ as a reason to examine and reconstruct their current role, extending their main concerns and paradigms from those which defend workers’ interests to those which consolidate their criticism of a reprehensible Spanish employer class. Employers’ discourse, on the other hand, is aimed at highlighting the market’s productive purpose, and sustaining their privileged position in labour management, whilst disassociating and distancing themselves from the employment decisions they make.

Abstract: We develop a new approach in magneto-optical imaging (MOI), applying for the first time a ghost imaging (GI) protocol to perform Faraday microscopy. MOI is of the utmost importance for the investigation of magnetic properties of material samples, through Weiss domains shape, dimension and dynamics analysis. Nevertheless, in some extreme conditions such as e. g. cryogenic temperatures or high magnetic fields application, there exists a lack of domains images due to the difficulty in creating an efficient imaging system in such environments. Here we present an innovative MOI technique that separates the imaging optical path from the one illuminating the object. The technique is based on thermal light GI and exploits correlations between light beams to retrieve the image of magnetic domains. As a proof of principle, the proposed technique is applied to the Faraday magneto-optical observation of the remanence domain structure of an yttrium iron garnet sample.
Influence of sample geometry on inductive damping measurement methods

Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1109/TMAG.2011.2155637
Abstract: We study the precession frequency and effective damping of patterned permalloy thin films of different geometry using integrated inductive test structures. The test structures consist of coplanar wave guides fabricated onto patterned permalloy stripes of different geometry. The width, length and position of the permalloy stripe with respect to the center conductor of the wave guide are varied. The precession frequency and effective damping of the different devices is derived by inductive measurements in time and frequency domain in in-plane magnetic fields. While the precession frequencies do not reveal a significant dependence on the sample geometry we find a decrease of the measured damping with increasing width of the permalloy centered underneath the center conductor of the coplanar wave guide. We attribute this effect to an additional damping contribution due to inhomogeneous line broadening at the edges of the permalloy stripes which does not contribute to the inductive signal provided the permalloy stripe is wider than the center conductor. Consequences for inductive determination of the effective damping using such integrated reference samples are discussed.

Abstract: in this report we describe the detection and duration of fecal shedding of shiga toxin-producing escherichia coli (stec) o157 and non-o157 in symptomatic and asymptomatic cases during four events occurred among children in day-care centers in argentina. in each event, the cases were identified among children, family contacts and staff members of the institution. the isolates were characterized by pheno-genotyping and subtyping methods. the stec fecal shedding was prolonged and intermittent. strains o157:h7 (1st event); o26:h11 (2nd event); o26:h11 (3rd event) and o145:nm (4th event) were shed during 23-30, 37, 31 and 19 days, respectively. considering the possibility of stec intermittent long-term shedding, symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals should be excluded from the institution until two consecutive stool cultures obtained at least 48 h apart, test negative.
The Dynamics of AdaBoost Weights Tells You What's Hard to Classify
Bruno Caprile,Cesare Furlanello,Stefano Merler
Computer Science , 2002,
Abstract: The dynamical evolution of weights in the Adaboost algorithm contains useful information about the role that the associated data points play in the built of the Adaboost model. In particular, the dynamics induces a bipartition of the data set into two (easy/hard) classes. Easy points are ininfluential in the making of the model, while the varying relevance of hard points can be gauged in terms of an entropy value associated to their evolution. Smooth approximations of entropy highlight regions where classification is most uncertain. Promising results are obtained when methods proposed are applied in the Optimal Sampling framework.
Medición de la Alfabetización Económica en Ni os: Oportunidades Diagnósticas con el Modelo de Crédito Parcial Measurement of Economic Literacy in Children: Diagnostic Opportunities With Partial Credit Model

Psykhe (Santiago) , 2006,
This paper describes the use of the Partial Credit Model (PCM) to measure Economic Literacy in children, with Ordered Multiple-Choice Items (OMC). We developed OMC items based on a Piagetian model that proposes three progressive levels in the development of concepts and reasoning about the economy. In OMC format, each of the possible answer choices was linked to a cognitive stage of economical thinking proposed by the theory. The items were administered to 1035 children, ages 10 to 15 years, and calibrated using the PCM. The results show both the utility of OMC items and the efficiency of PCM as tools for the score, analysis, and interpretation of diagnostic assessments constructed in a Piagetian framework.

Coria, Marianela Denegri;Tapia, Mireya Palavecinos;Fuentealba, René Gempp;Costa, Cristina Caprile;
Psicologia & Sociedade , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822005000200012
Abstract: the purpose of this investigation was to describe the strategies and practices of economic socialization in a sample of 132 middle class families of temuco, a city in chile. the results show that there is an agreement among the families about the necessity to educate the children about the use of money, and that this is a responsibility that concerns the parents. a wide dispersion is observed among the practices that the parents claim to use to educate their children about the use of money. the practices which are rather intuitive, not very systematic and isolated, do not constitute strategies of socialization, and show inconsistency among the values expressed by the parents and the practices used by them. the parents' experience of an early socialization in their origin families rebounds in the education of their children, consequently leading to the presence of an intergenerational influence in the process of economic socialization.

Abstract: We explore the prospects of wafer scale inductive probing of the critical current density $j^{c0}$ for spin transfer torque switching of a CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB magnetic tunnel junction with varying MgO thickness. From inductive measurements magnetostatic parameters and the effective damping are derived and $j^{c0}$ is calculated based on spin transfer torque equations. The inductive values compare well to the values derived from current induced switching measurements on individual nanopillars. Using a wafer scale inductive probe head could in the future enable wafer probe station based metrology of $j^{c0}$.
