Journal of Entomological and Acarological Research , 2012, DOI: 10.4081/jear.2012.e11
Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the entomopathogenic activity of Fusarium avenaceum (strain 10A) against adults of Sitophilus oryzae infesting wheat grain. Bioassays were carried out to determine the adult mortality of S. oryzae when the conidial suspension of the fungus strain was applied using three types of fungus treatment. Results obtained have indicated significant differences (P=0.05) in the mean percentage of adult mortality due to the treatment with the fungus compared to the control. The highest mean percentage of adult mortality was obtained by the direct spraying of S. oryzae adults with the fungus conidial suspension before introduction of the treated adults into pots containing wheat grain; the lowest mean percentage of adult mortality was obtained by spraying the inner surfaces of pots with the fungus conidial suspension before introducing the grain and insects. This study demonstrated the typical growth of F. avenaceum on the outer surfaces of the dead treated adults of S. oryzae. Presence of the external fungus growth on the dead insects indicated that the death of S. oryzae adults was attributed to the fungus infection. Results obtained in the present paper represent the first record of efficacy of F. avenaceum against a coleopteran stored-grain insect, mainly including S. oryzae.

Detection of addiction in medical professionals an eye opener
ANIL BATTA
International Journal of Biological and Medical Research , 2011,
Abstract: The medical professionals are vulnerable to substances of abuse/addiction due to their ready accessibility to the substances of abuse. Of particular concern is the finding of a lack of gender differences in problematic drinking with the pattern of female addicts drinking rates for women approximating that of men by the end of medical school. There is higher percentage use of alcohol, tranquillizers and narcotics among medical students. Majority of the substance-abusing doctors are graduates, belong to medicine specialty (21%) and majority of them prescribe drugs to themselves (37%). Medical student abuse is the major risk factors. Despite paucity of studies in Indian population, substance use is reported between 32.5% to as high as 81.2% among medical students, interns and house physicians. In spite of the treatment dilemmas, the physicians do respond favorably to treatment. These findings have implications in planning preventive and interventional strategies for this professional group. This study explores the attitudes and perceptions of medical students concerning patients with addictions and policy issues related to drugs. Over 100 students from PGIMER students responded to an anonymous survey concerning their experience and training regarding addictions, and their level of support or opposition for various drug policy approaches. Quantitative and qualitative epidemiological investigation of substance use within a student population was seen during their mandatory preventive health visit at the OPD medical facility. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of psychotropic (Narcotics) & tranquilizers drug consumption by students undergoing medical courses of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh India to verify aspects related to those addictions.

HYBRID TECHNIQUE FOR SOFTWARE CODE CLONE DETECTION
Priyanka Batta,Miss Himanshi
International Journal of Computers & Technology , 2012,
Abstract: Software Clone detection is one of the hottest research area that helps in detecting duplicate code from an applications. The research has shown that 5% to 20% of software systems can contain duplicated code that is generated by simply copying the existing program code and pasting with or without minor modifications. Cloning creates problem when a bug is found in one code segment that was copied and pasted at several locations earlier. The objective of this study is to analyze the working of hybrid clone detection technique that design and analyze a hybrid technique for detecting software clone in an application. We will combine metric approach with text base (line of code) technique for the above said reason. A model will be designed to automate the concept of clone detection.

SMOKING - A POTENTIAL SUICIDAL
Dr.Anil Batta
International Journal of Chemical Sciences and Research , 2011,
Abstract: Smoking has become a usual routine particularly in the youth that has made it a cause of concern. It is a monsterwhich is going to engulf the entire mankind irrespective of the place and sex as this has crossed the sex limits also asthe effect on pregnancies can be devastating. Smoking has become the worst method of committing suicide and homicide as the second hand persons have to be beware of consequences for just having a smoker friend. Keepingall the hazards in mind we tried to find the correlation of smoking in the Subjects enrolled in study by dividing it into two groups; nonsmokers and smokers, each with 60 male volunteers of the same social class and dietary habit without history of alcohol consumption, diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia and gout, renal, joint, lung or heart diseases. Fasting blood and random urine samples were obtained from both groups for measurement of uric acid and creatinine. Calculation of all three parameters in mind viz.Serum uric acid, total cholesterol, HDL--cholesterol a significant correlation was tried to evaluate between all four parameters. The results were statistically evaluated by standard statistical methods. Studies have shown that a high serum uric acid concentration is a risk factor for coronary artery disease with increased levels of serum cholesterol and d+ecreased levels of HDL cholesterol. However, the issue of whether it is an independent cardiovascular risk factor or simply a marker of co-existing conditions is a matter of controversy. Serum cholesterol in CAD patients was significantly higher than in healthy individuals (7.4 ± 3.7 mg% and 4.4 ±1.2 mg%, respectively, p < 0.01) and remained significantly higher after adjusting for confounding factors (F = 69.45, p< 0.01). An unadjusted odds ratio (OR) of 5.0 was obtained in both genders (p < 0.01). Female patients with > 43% stenosis (clinically significant CAD), regardless of the number of diseased vessels, had higher uric acid concentrations than those with < 43% stenosis even after adjusting for confounders (F = 3.79, p = 0.01). In conclusion, we have demonstrated that high serum uric acid is independently associated with CAD and that uric acid determination could be useful as one of the markers of clinically significant CAD.
DEXTROPROPOXYPHENE - A DRUG TO BE USED JUDICIOUSLY
Dr.Anil Batta
International Journal of Chemical Sciences and Research , 2011,
Abstract: Dextroprorpoxyphene is an analgesic in the opioids category. It is intended to treat mild pain and has, in addition, anti-tussive and local anesthetic effects. But analgesic, opioid withdrawal, RLS being major uses along with, anitussive, antidepressive, muscle cramps activity adverse overdose side effects are cardiac arrhythmias. Dextroprorpoxyphene is a weak opioid known to cause dependency among recreational users. It is ineffective for some individuals with the "poor metabolizer" genotype of the liver cytochromeP450 and enzyme CYP2D6. It does not have much effect on mental cravings; however it can be effective in alleviating physical withdrawal effects of opioids, such as muscle cramps. It is commonly used to ease the withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to opioids. Propoxyphene and its metabolite non-Propoxyphene have local anesthetic effects at concentrations about 10 times those necessary for opioids effects. It relieves the symptoms of restless legs syndrome (RLS). It also acts as a potent, noncompetitive neuronal receptor agonist as well as weak serotonine reuptake inhibitor. It has various side effects like Constipation, Itching, Drowsiness, Sore throat, Impaired alertness, Confusion, Serious or fatal heart rhythms. Owing to its positive causes, a Study was carried out during my stay at civil hospital at Lehragaga suburb in Sangrur district of Punjab, adverse and verse effects. Aim of the study was to have a judicious view to prescribe and use the drug for various disorders. Aim of the study was to compare the clinical findings in the patients taking Dextroprorpoxyphene and the patients taking routine drugs like non-opioid analgesics, depressed patients taking antidepressants like tricyclics antidepressants, patients of bronchitis taking antitussives without opioids like codine, athletes with cramps taking non-opioid antiinflammatory and analgesics. It was ensured that they are taking drugs having no relevance, mode of action and side effects similar to opioids.60 patients taking Dextroprorpoxyphene for therapeutic purposes suffering from various illness were selected for study .
Self-assembly of binary nanoparticle dispersions: from square arrays and stripe phases to colloidal corrals

Abstract: The generation of nanoscale square and stripe patterns is of major technological importance since they are compatible with industry-standard electronic circuitry. Recently, a blend of diblock copolymer interacting via hydrogen-bonding was shown to self-assemble in square arrays. Motivated by those experiments we study, using Monte Carlo simulations, the pattern formation in a two-dimensional binary mixture of colloidal particles interacting via isotropic core-corona potentials. We find a rich variety of patterns that can be grouped mainly in aggregates that self-assemble in regular square lattices or in alternate strips. Other morphologies observed include colloidal corrals that are potentially useful as surface templating agents. This work shows the unexpected versatility of this simple model to produce a variety of patterns with high technological potential.
