Cluster approximation solution of a two species annihilation model

Abstract: A two species reaction-diffusion model, in which particles diffuse on a one-dimensional lattice and annihilate when meeting each other, has been investigated. Mean field equations for general choice of reaction rates have been solved exactly. Cluster mean field approximation of the model is also studied. It is shown that, the general form of large time behavior of one- and two-point functions of the number operators, are determined by the diffusion rates of the two type of species, and is independent of annihilation rates.
Diagnostic value of urinary antigen Streptococcus pneumoniae in children With pneumonia: A case control study

Abstract: Background and objectives: The aim of this study was the detection ofS.pneumoniae infection by rapid urinary test and blood culture in childrenwith pneumonia in comparison with healthy children.Material and Methods: This case control study was carried outin pediatric ward of Rasoul Akram hospital in Tehran, Iran (2006 -200 ).Fifty-four Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and 50 healthychildren were selected by simple sampling. The urinary antigen detectiontest (BINAX NOW co.) was performed on both cases and controls; andblood culture was done for the cases suffered from Pneumonia.Results: Pneumococcal antigenuria is detected in 31.5 % of CAP and 6 %of controls groups. There is Significant difference between cases andcontrols (fisher test; CI 95%, P =0.01). None of the children with nonpneumococcalPneumonia (positive culture) has antigenuria.Conclusion: The possibility of diagnosis of pneumococcal pneumonia inchildren, by means of blood culture, is low. Thirty-one percent of CAP isdue to S.pneumonia, by using the rapid antigenuria test. "PRIMARY VITRECTOMY VERSUS SCLERAL BUCKLING IN PATIENTS WITH RETINAL DETACHMENT AFTER CATARACT SURGERY"

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to compare the anatomic and visual outcome of primary vitrectomy with scleral buckling in patients with retinal detachment following cataract surgery. Fifty-six consecutive patients with retinal detachment after cataract surgery were randomly assigned to two treatment groups: standard scleral buckling and standard three-port deep vitrectomy. Successful treatment was defined as improvement in vision (minimum of 2 lines in Snellen chart), anatomic reattachment and prevention of post-operative proliferative vitreo-retinopathy (PVR). The prognostic role of pre-operative and intra-operative conditions of the affected eye was also evaluated. Twenty-six of fifty-six eligible patients underwent scleral buckling and thirty had deep vitrectomy. Anatomic reattachment was achieved in 18 (69.2%) cases in scleral buckling group and 19 (63%) cases in vitrectomy group. Improvement in visual acuity was achieved in 76.9% and 83.3% and PVR occurred post-operatively in 23.1% and 16.7%, respectively. The differences were not statistically significant, and pre- and intra-operative ocular conditions did not prove to be prognostic factors, either. Scleral buckling and primary deep vitrectomy seem to have comparable outcomes in terms of anatomic reattachment and visual improvement in patients with pseudophakic and aphakic retinal detachment. Failure to achieve anatomic reattachment and visual improvement or PVR occurred in about one third and one fifth of the cases respectively, irrespective of the technique used. This warrants further research to improve treatment results

Abstract: Molecules of the title compound, C12H13ClN2O2S2, are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by pairs of intermolecular N—H...S hydrogen bonds. In the crystal structure, there are π–π stacking interactions between symmetry-related benzene rings with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.7305 (13) , a perpendicular distance between the planes of 3.2851 (9) and a slippage of 1.768 . The structure is further stabilized by weak intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds.
Superantigens in Polyp Tissue of Patients with Chronic Rhino-Sinusitis, A Comparative Study: A Brief Report

Abstract: Background: Staphylococcus aureus secretes numerous superantigenes which trigger the inflammatory mechanisms of sinus mucosa and cause chronic rhino-sinusitis. This study was designed to evaluate the role of staphylococcus aureus superantigens in polyp tissues of patients with chronic rhino-sinusitis in comparison with a control group.Methods: Polyp tissue samples of 28 patients and mucosal specimens of 19 healthy individuals were evaluated for staphylococcus aureus bacterium superantigens, exotoxins A, B, C and D and TSST-1 with RT-PCR and ELISA methods Rasoul Akram Hospital during 2 years.Results: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results revealed that 88.2% of the patients and 45.5% of the controls had at least one type of superantigen (P=0.03). Evaluation of superantigens using ELISA method showed presence of at least one type of superantigen in the nasal samples of all patients and in 35.3% of the controls (P<0.001).Conclusion: A relationship between staphylococcal superantigens and nasal polyps is concluded from this study which indicates the probable role of these superantigens in the pathogenesis of nasal polyposis.
The Comparison of TH1 and TH2 Cytokines Gene Expression in Allergic and Non-Allergic Patients With Nasal Polyps By PCR

Abstract: Background: Too many studies are in the process of determining the probable role of immune system in the etiopathogenesis of nasal polyposis. This study was designed to identify the probable participation of Th1, Th2 lymphocytes in the induction and progression of nasal polyposis.Methods: Seventy-five patients, 42 male and 33 female, with nasal polyposis were examined for total serum IgE, specific serum IgE and reaction to skin test for differentiating allergic from non-allergic participants in Rasoul Akram Hospital during 2010. To determine the possible correlation of allergic reactions in the upper respiratory tract and nasal polyposis, cytokine gene expression was evaluated on the extracted RNA by RT-PCR. The data were analyzed by using c2, independent t-test, correlation and Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.Results: The mean age of participants was 38 years (18-81 years). IFN-γ and IL-4 gene expressions were more prevalent in allergic than non-allergic individuals (IFN-γ: 39.5% vs. 14.2%, P=0.3 and IL-4: 44.7% vs. 18.9%, P=0.02, respectively). IL-10 and IL-12 (P35 and P40 fractions) genes were not significantly different between the two groups. IL-10 and IL-12 (P35, P40) genes did not differ significantly either.Conclusion: This research suggests that overproduction of cytokines and an imbalance of Th1 and Th2 cell production may play an important role in the pathophysiology of allergic or non-allergic nasal polyp formation. Thus, although nasal polyposis is a multifactorial disease with several different etiological factors, chronic persistent inflammation is undoubtedly a major factor irrespective of the etiology.

Abstract: The reaction of Zn(NO3)2 with pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (pydcH2) and acridine (acr) in aqueous solution leads to the formation of the title compound, (C13H10N)[Zn(C7H3NO4)(C7H4NO4)]·5H2O or (acrH)[Zn(pydcH)(pydc)]·5H2O. In the title compound, the ZnII atom is coordinated by four O atoms and two N atoms from the tridentate chelating rings of (pydc)2 and (pydcH) anions. The geometry of the resulting ZnN2O4 coordination can be described as distorted octahedral. To balance the charges, one protonated acridine (acrH)+ cation is present. In the crystal structure, extensive O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds involving acrH+, the complex anion and uncoordinated water molecules form a three-dimensional network.
Prognostic value of the acute DMSA scan in hospitalized children with urinary tract infection

Abstract: "nBackground: Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one of the major etiological factors of permanent kidney impairment, resulting in renal scarring and severe and pernicious side effects, such as arterial hypertension and renal failure. The purpose of this study was to clarify the impression of renal parenchyma involvement by first UTI (on the basis of acute DMSA scan) and vesicoureteral reflux (VUR-on the basis of VCUG/ RNC) on the renal scar formation (on the basis of late DMSA scan). "nMethods: Children diagnosed with their first UTI at the Children's Hospital Medical Center, Tehran, Iran, were evaluated. For each patient, we recorded age, sex, results of VCUG/RNCs and acute DMSA scan, as well as those of a late DMSA scan performed 4-6 months later. The results of acute and late DMSA scans were compared along with the results of VCUG/RNCs. "nResults: This study included a total of 103 children, of whom 16 (15.5%) were boys and 87 (84.5%) were girls. The mean age was 27.2±27.7 months. The frequency of renal scars in kidneys with mild (28.6%, 8.7%) and moderate (33.3%, 18.2%) pyelonephritis with or without VUR was not significantly different, while the frequency of renal scars in kidneys with severe pyelonephritis (84.6%, 23.1%) in the presence of VUR was significantly higher than non-refluxing kidneys with severe pyelonephritis (p=0.005). Furthermore, the frequency of renal scars in refluxing kidneys increased significantly with the severity of pyelonephritis (normal 8.3%, mild 28.6%, moderate 33.3%, and severe 84.6%; p=0.001). This pattern was not significant in non-refluxing kidneys (0%, 10.3%, 18.2%, and 23.1%, respectively; p=0.062). "nConclusion: The present study indicates that the incidence of renal scarring increases with pyelonephritis severity in patients with VUR. Furthermore, we can estimate the risk of renal scar formation from the results of acute DMSA scan and VCUG/RNC.

Abstract: In the title compound, C6H9N2+·C7H4NO4 ·1.5H2O, extensive O—H...O, O—H...N, N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, as well as ion pairing, π–π stacking interactions [centroid–centroid distances = 3.4690 (8) and 3.6932 (8) between aromatic rings] occur in the crystal. There are hydrogen-bonding interactions between water molecules, which result in cyclic tetrameric water clusters. One of the water O molecules has half occupancy. In the anion molecules, the –CO2 and –CO2H groups make torsion angles of 1.73 (18) and 12.14 (18)° with respect to the ring.
Endonasal endoscopic Laser-assisted Dacryocystorhinostomy

Abstract: Endonasal endoscopic laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy has many advantages over conventional external dacryocystorhinostomy. This technique avoids a cutaneous scar and causes less surgical trauma and bleeding than that seen in conventional lacrimal surgery. A total of 20 endoscopic laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy in 16 patients were performed between 1998 and 1999. the procedure was successful in 90% of cases, with no major complications. This success rate is comparable with external dacryocystorhinostomy. Silicone tubing was applied in 11 cases. The difference of success rates between the two groups (with and without silicone tubing) was not significant. It seems that creading a patent rhinostomy plays a more important role to achieve desirable results. Endonasal endoscopic laser-assisted dacryocystor-hinostomy provides a simple, bloodless, and incisionless alternative to external dacryocytorhinostomy in the majority of the patients suffering from symptoms of lacrimal obstruction.
