Abstract: By calculating the vibrational entropy change during hole transition for Fe-center, it is shown that the acceptor state of Fe-center is antibonding; The enthalpy and Gibbs free energy change and their temperature dependence caused by hole transition are calculated and compared with experimental data. From the results, it is reasonably well understood that activation energy obtained by thermal emission rate for Fe-center is always larger than that from optical measurement.

FIELD IONIZATION OF MOLECULES IN AN INTENSE LASER FIELD

Abstract: In order to predict the field ionization probabilities, the accurate ab initio electrostatic potential of molecules has to be calculated. However, the calculation of the full ab initio electrostatic potential of molecules is complicated, even impossible for some larger molecules with low symmetry. Here, we present a semi-empirical model to treat the field ionization of molecules in an intense laser field. In this model, a modified Coulomb potential is used to take the place of the complicated ab initio electrostatic potential of molecules. The analytic equations of the Keldysh adiabatic parameter using the Coulomb potential and the modified Coulomb potential have first been given. Using our semi-empirical model, we have calculated the field ionization probabilities and the Keldysh adiabatic parameters of O2, N2, SO2, C2H4, CH3CN and C6H6 in an intense laser field. The results agree excellently with the calculations using the ab initio electrostatic potential of molecules. As the modified parameter for the Coulomb potential can be found from experimental measurements, the field ionization mechanism of molecules can be immediately predicted with our semi-empirical model.
INVESTIGATION OF DEFECTS IN Ge-DOPED GaAs CRYSTAL GROWN IN A MAGNETIC FIELD

Abstract: Ge-doped GaAs single crystals have been grown by liquid-encapsulated Czochralski method in absence and presence of a magnetic field of 4000Gauss. By means of high op-tical efficiency photoluminescence, spectra of the grown crystals at room temperature were obtained, which consist of two emission bands A and B at 1.39-1.42eV and 0.97-1.05eV, respectively. Comparing the photoluminescence mappings with microphotographs of etched wafers, Hall effect results and electron probe microanalyses of the n- and p-type crystals with different Ge concentrations, we considered that the emission bands A and B originate from Ge-related acceptor and donor complexes, respectively. The complexes were formed during crystal growth, mainly due to temperature fluctuations in molten Ge-doped GaAs. The concentrations and homogeneities of the defects can be improved by the application of a magnetic field during crystal growth to suppress the temperature fluctuation.
Evolution on qualities of leachate and landfill gas in the semi-aerobic landfill

Abstract: To study the characteristics of stabilization in semi-aerobic landfill, large-scale simulated landfill was constructed based on the semi-aerobic landfill theory. Consequently, the concentrations of chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen, and nitrite nitrogen, and the pH value in leachate, as well as the component contents of landfill gas composition (methane, carbon dioxide, and oxygen) in landfill were regularly monitored for 52 weeks. The results showed that COD and ammonia concentrations declined rapidly and did not show the accumulating rule like anaerobic landfill, and remained at about 300 and 100 mg/L, respectively, after 48 weeks. Meanwhile, the descending rate reached 98.9% and 96.9%, respectively. Nitrate concentration increased rapidly after 24 weeks and fluctuated between 220-280 mg/L after 43 weeks. The pH values were below 7 during the first 8 weeks and after that leachates appeared to be alkaline. Carbon dioxide was the main composition in landfill gas and its concentration remained at a high level through the whole stabilization process. The average contents of carbon dioxide, oxygen, and methane varied between 19 vol.%-28 vol.%, 2 vol.%-8 vol.%, and 5 vol.%-13 vol.%, respectively. A relative equilibrium was reached after 48 weeks. The highest temperature in the landfill chamber could amount to 75.8 degrees centigrade.

Abstract: The community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in the delta area of lower Zhujiang (Pearl River) was constituted mainly by Oligochaeta, Po-lychaeta and Corbicula fiuminea (Mollusca). Among them Oligochaeta was apparently the dominant organism as it was found throughout the river system, while Polychaeta and Corbicula fiuminea were absent in the reaches around urban areas. The biological pollution index (BPI) was served as an approach to synthesize the biological parameters and evaluate the water quality. In order to test the confidence of BPI, multi-regression technique was used to reveal the relationship between BPI and water parameters; similarity coefficient of cluster analysis was applied to the same parameters from which several groups were classified, All results showed that BPI is essentially as effective as chemical approaches to the water quality assessment.
