Simultaneous Determination of Various Food Additives by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: A novel method is proposed for the simultaneous separation and determination of eight food additives, acesulfame potassium (AK), aspartame (ASP), benzoic acid (BA), caffeine (CA), saccharin sodium (SA), sorbic acid (SOR), theobromine (TB) and theophylline (TP) by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. The separation was achieved within 23 min by using an Alltech Econosphere C18 column with 10 mmol/L NaH2PO4(pH 4.00)-acetonitrile (90:10, V/V) as mobile phase. The qualification and quantitation were accomplished by using a photodiode array detector. The detection limits (S/N = 3) for all analytes were below mg/L level. Under the experimental conditions, other common food additives and organic acids such as cyclamate, citric acid, malic acid, tartaric acid and ascorbic acid, did not interfere with the determination. The method has been successfully applied to the analysis of various foods as well as pharmaceutical preparation, and the average recoveries for real samples ranged from 78.5% to 107.2%.

Abstract: Based on a classical molecular dynamics model, a novel insertion mechanism of C 60 into single wall carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) has been demonstrated. The potential barrier of tube\|end area of the SWNTs plays an important role in attracting C 60 into the SWNTs and to encapsulate C 60 in the SWNTs. The C 60 moves freely along the tube axis direction in tube\|inner area of the SWNTs. Finally, a series of potential barrier heights of attracting and encapsulating C 60 of SWTNs with different diameters are calculated, indicating that SWNTs cannot attract C 60 unless its diameter is greater than the minimum value 1\^238 nm.

Abstract: An adaptive tracking control based on zero phase error is presented.First,state-variable filters based on the state equations for reference model with transfer function being 1 are introduced.Then,an adaptive law with generalized output error is designed.The structure of the controller is relatively simple and it has better servo performance.Finally,the simulation results show that the method can improve the performance of the dynamic system with unknown parameters or time_varying parameters.

Abstract: This paper provides a preliminary overview of vegetation green wave change analysis using a time series remote sensing data in China. A series of 12 monthly average NDVI data, which is derived from NOAA AVHRR data is used in this study. The research result shows that the vegetation green wave change is different along the longitude and latitude during the year. Along the same longitude, vegetation change is closely corresponded to the seasonal change law. The higher the latitude is, the greater the scope of seasonal changes. Along the same latitude the vegetation index change is closely related to precipitation change during the year. The result of greenness classification for each monthly NDVI image also shows that in summer, the high green wave classes occupy most area of China; in opposite, brown wave classes occupy most of territory of China in winter.

Abstract: This assay was designed to construct the prokaryotic expression vector, investigate the expression of PEBP-like in Escherichia coli and purify its product. The PEBP gene was inserted into the vector pET30a (+). The recombinant vector was transferred into E. coli BL21 (DE3)and induced the expression of protein by low concentration of IPTG and low temperature overnight. After purification, the supernatants were analyzed by SDS-PAGE and the results were identified by Western blotting. After IPTG induction, a new anticipating fusion protein of 28 kD appeared as an expected size, and its product was 26.8% in total protein, the fusion protein was positive by Western blotting. The prokaryotic expression system of PEBP-like is successfully constructed. It lays the foundation for the further application study on the antifreeze characters of the PEBP.

Abstract: Polycyclic musks (PCMs), such as 6-acetyl-1,1,2,4,4,7-hexamethy ltetralin (AHTN), which are widely used in personal care products as fragrance additive, are considered as emerging pollutants. As cadmium is the regular contaminant in soil, the combined exposure of AHTN and Cd is possible in soil. In order to investigate the bioeffect of this combined exposure, Eisenia foetida was exposed on contaminated filter paper for 24 hours to detect the concentration of glutathionein (GSH) and metallothionein (MT) during the exposure. The contaminants were single AHTN, single Cd2+, and joint AHTN and Cd2+, respectively. Single Cd2+ exposure significantly increased the content of GSH and MT with increasing the dose of Cd2+. The contents of GSH and MT were both enhanced in the AHTN exposure with low dosage, and reduced in the AHTN exposure with high dosage. In the combined exposure, GSH and MT were inhibited at high dose range of AHTN, leading to lower MT level than that in the single Cd2+ exposure.

Abstract: Using the distance dependent tight binding molecular dynamics model (DDTB MD), the Na 6 (2 D )+Na 8,Na 6(3 D )+Na 8 collision dynamic processes have been studied for different incident energies and different impact parameters.Different reaction mechanisms have been observed, such as fusion reaction, deep inelastic and quasi elastic collisions, which are similar to the nuclear heavy ion collisions. This shows that the clusters with different geometric structures colliding with identical clusters can produce different new clusters. At lower incident energy central collisions, Na 6(3 D ) can form a stable cluster;at leV/ n half central collision, Na 6(3 D ) is easy to form a larger cluster.
