Postmodern Values in Rural Peripheries

Abstract: Some new values and trends based on strengthened needs for nature, culture and safety have emerged and offer favourable opportunities for the less developed rural areas. The environmental and social aspects of economies are getting to have more power as well as the information society provides assets to break off the distances and these processes lead to change the term of underdevelopment especially in rural peripheries. While the rural spaces have resources necessary to start a new way of development, they are in a dual cultural snare. On one hand, rural policy forces to follow one kind of modernization, most of the rural areas do not have resources for that. On the other hand, local societies are not ready to follow a post-modern way. Post-modern values are imported by migrants and this is accompanied by important conflicts. The main question of our research is how the pure nature, the sustainability, the cultural heritage and social participation as some of the basic values for post-modern type development are present in rural spaces. According to our hypothesis the relation of local society to post-modern values depends on economic development, the size of community and their links to the outside of the region. We have started an empirical research project in 8 groups of villages (6 in Hungary, 2 in Transylvania) in order to verify the hypothesis. About 420 local residents have been asked about their values and preferences. The paper shows some of the results of these surveys.
Shortest path discovery of complex networks

Abstract: In this paper we present an analytic study of sampled networks in the case of some important shortest-path sampling models. We present analytic formulas for the probability of edge discovery in the case of an evolving and a static network model. We also show that the number of discovered edges in a finite network scales much slower than predicted by earlier mean field models. Finally, we calculate the degree distribution of sampled networks, and we demonstrate that they are analogous to a destructed network obtained by randomly removing edges from the original network.

Abstract: The Statesman is Plato’s neglected political work, but it is crucial for the understanding of the development of his political thinking as well as extending the understanding of his other works. The dialogue Statesman combines two or even more subjects and different aspects of the same subject; the dialogue likewise contains a central section on paradigm and measure which affects the passage between the statesman as a shepherd and the statesman as a weaver. It is ostensibly an attempt to arrive at the definition of the statesman as a ruler who has political power called for a specialized knowledge.This article analyses the dialogue itself, seeks relation to the other Plato’s writings as well as to old archaic and essential symbols, which are found in many different traditions and represent the text as a web, as a cloth referring to many different layers of the text. Also there is put an emphasis on linguistic and stylistic analysis, which is based on comparison of compounds, terminology, specific terms of weaving as well as some astronomical terms. There is also given a wide comparison of weaving which appears as one of the most essential elements of the text which interweaves all its layers and binds together its philosophical, textological and cultural issues as a continuous unity.
Subcellular distribution of nitric oxide synthase isoforms in the rat duodenum

Abstract: AIM: To study the cell-type specific subcellular distribution of the three isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the rat duodenum.METHODS: Postembedding immunoelectronmicroscopy was performed, in which primary antibodies for neuronal NOS (nNOS), endothelial NOS (eNOS), and inducible NOS (iNOS), were visualized with protein A-gold-conjugated secondary antibodies. Stained ultrathin sections were examined and photographed with a Philips CM10 electron microscope equipped with a MEGAVIEW II camera. The specificity of the immunoreaction in all cases was assessed by omitting the primary antibodies in the labeling protocol and incubating the sections only in the protein A-gold conjugated secondary antibodies.RESULTS: Postembedding immunoelectronmicroscopy revealed the presence of nNOS, eNOS, and iNOS immunoreactivity in the myenteric neurons, the enteric smooth muscle cells, and the endothelium of capillaries running in the vicinity of the myenteric plexus of the rat duodenum. The cell type-specific distributions of the immunogold particles labeling the three different NOS isozymes were revealed. In the control experiments, in which the primary antiserum was omitted, virtually no postembedding gold particles were observed.CONCLUSION: This postembedding immunoelectronmicroscopic study provided the first evidence of cell-type-specific differences in the subcellular distributions of NOS isoforms.
Distribution of Edge Load in Scale-free Trees

Abstract: Node betweenness has been studied recently by a number of authors, but until now less attention has been paid to edge betweenness. In this paper, we present an exact analytic study of edge betweenness in evolving scale-free and non-scale-free trees. We aim at the probability distribution of edge betweenness under the condition that a local property, the in-degree of the ``younger'' node of a randomly selected edge, is known. En route to the conditional distribution of edge betweenness the exact joint distribution of cluster size and in-degree, and its one dimensional marginal distributions have been presented in the paper as well. From the derived probability distributions the expectation values of different quantities have been calculated. Our results provide an exact solution not only for infinite, but for finite networks as well.
The effect of network structure on phase transitions in queuing networks

Abstract: Recently, De Martino et al have presented a general framework for the study of transportation phenomena on complex networks. One of their most significant achievements was a deeper understanding of the phase transition from the uncongested to the congested phase at a critical traffic load. In this paper, we also study phase transition in transportation networks using a discrete time random walk model. Our aim is to establish a direct connection between the structure of the graph and the value of the critical traffic load. Applying spectral graph theory, we show that the original results of De Martino et al showing that the critical loading depends only on the degree sequence of the graph -- suggesting that different graphs with the same degree sequence have the same critical loading if all other circumstances are fixed -- is valid only if the graph is dense enough. For sparse graphs, higher order corrections, related to the local structure of the network, appear.
On the Prospects of Chaos Aware Traffic Modeling

Abstract: In this paper the chaotic properties of the TCP congestion avoidance mechanism are investigated. The analysis focuses on the origin of the complex behavior appearing in deterministic TCP/IP networks. From the traffic modeling point of view the understanding of the mechanism generating chaos is essential, since present models are unable to cope with this phenomena. Using the basic tools of chaos theory in our study, the main characteristics of chaotic dynamics are revealed. The dynamics of packet loss events is studied by a simple symbolic description. The cellular structure of the phase space of congestion windows is shown. This implies periodic behavior for large time scales. Chaotic behavior in short time scales and periodicity for larger times makes it necessary to develop models that account for both. Thus a simple model that describes the congestion window dynamics according to fluid equations, but handles the packet loss events separately is introduced. This model can reproduce the basic features observed in realistic packet level simulations.

Abstract: The article deals with a special problem area of the filtering and evaluationtechniques of surface roughness measurement and calls attention to the contradictions ofparameters to characterize surface microgeometry. Differences in the value of parametersare presented through tests of the operating surfaces of three disparate component types.Each chapter discusses the evaluation of measurement results according to variousmethods, on the basis of which it can be established that value differences are caused bythe use of different filters, on the one hand, and by discrepancies between the profilesdetected. From the practical point of view, it is most expedient to characterize surfaces withunfiltered parameters.
An Overview on Induction Machine's Diagnosis Methods

Abstract: Several methods for diagnosing the faults of the squirrel-cage induction motors are cited in the literature. The authors focused their researches on the rotor faults of the squirrel cage induction machines. The aim of the paper is to compare these fault diagnosismethods by means of data processing in LabVIEW the results obtained by measurements. It will be emphasized that beside the current signature analysis also the threephase current vector, the instantaneous torque, respectively the outer magnetic filed can be used for diagnosing the rotor faults.
