Espiritualidade. Inclus o Abstract This article presents some elements of Umbanda worldview to a better understanding of how this religion legitimizes and reframes the spaces of social inclusion of a portion of the Brazilian population. This worldview recreates and gives meaning to the lives and identities of people and at the same time, highlights the exclusions suffered by this people over the decades. Since their early years, Brazilian Afrodescendants move between different symbolic universes and use their spirituality to redesign their traditions, creating possibilities to play with different roles and identities. Umbanda, being constitutively plural, is often judged not to have its own identity. Thus, some elements that comprise Umbanda worldview were raised with the purpose of presenting an axis understanding of this religious identity. However, it is necessary to point out some relevant features of Umbanda, so that their identity features do not stay on the sidelines of other african Brazilian religious denominations. Finally, it seeks an understanding of these anthropological and sociological dynamics, based on some theoretical currents that investigate the Umbanda. Keywords: Umbanda. Spirituality. Inclusion.
Predicting of the Fibrous Filters Efficiency for the Removal Particles from Gas Stream by Artificial Neural Network  [PDF]

Advances in Chemical Engineering and Science (ACES) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/aces.2015.53033
Abstract: In this paper, artificial neural networks are used for predicting single fiber efficiency in the process of removing smaller particles from gas stream by fiber filters. For this, numerical simulations are obtained of a classic model of literature for fiber efficiency, which is numerically solved along with the convection diffusion equation in polar coordinates for particle concentration, with associated initial and boundary conditions. A sufficient number of examples from two numerical simulations are employed to construct a database, from which parameters of a novel neural model are adjusted. This model is constructed based on the back propagation algorithm in order to map two features, namely Peclet number and packing density, which are extracted from the numerical simulations into the corresponding single fiber efficiency. The results indicate that the developed neural model can be trained in a reasonable computational time and is capable of estimating single fiber efficiency from examples of the test set with a maximum error of 1.7%.

Abstract: polymer coatings have been used as protection against corrosion and wear. the aim of this work was to produce coated steel with a polymeric film using a low-speed-combustion thermal spraying and fusion technique, and to evaluate its chemical resistance to radiation and moisture. the substrate used was carbon steel, coated with a recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate), pet, and a copolymer of ethylene and methacrylic acid, emaa, and pet-emaa blends. the degradation resistance of the material was evaluated using an ultra-violet condensation-weathering test. the characterization of the composite was done using differential scanning calorimetry (dsc) and tensile measurements. the strain at the breakage of the coated samples decreased after aging. the glass transition temperature of the blended coatings increased after the aging process.
Compensatory sweating after thoracoscopic sympathectomy: characteristics, prevalence and influence on patient satisfaction

Abstract: objective: this prospective study aimed at investigating predictive factors for compensatory sweating after thoracoscopic sympathectomy. methods: from 2000 to 2002, 80 patients (53 females and 27 males) underwent thoracoscopic sympathectomy to treat hyperhidrosis. patient ages ranged from 12 to 56 years, and the mean post-operative follow-up period was 42.51 ± 5.98 months. patient satisfaction with the results was evaluated through the use of a rating scale. the procedure was performed bilaterally: at the t2 level for facial hyperhidrosis; at the t3-t4 level for axillary hyperhidrosis; and at the t3 level for palmar hyperhidrosis. results: post-operatively, 68 patients (85.0%) presented compensatory sweating, which was classified as mild in 23 (33.8%), moderate in 23 (33.8%) and severe in 22 (32.4%). considering the final surgical results, 70 patients (87.5%) were satisfied with the outcome of the operation, whereas 10 patients (12.5%) were dissatisfied. the level of patient satisfaction varied according to gender, age, body mass index (bmi) and extent of denervation. the compensatory sweating was more severe on the abdomen and back than on the legs. conclusions: although compensatory sweating, which is a common adverse effect of sympathectomy, occurred in the majority of cases, the level of patient satisfaction was high. the best candidates for thoracoscopic sympathectomy are young adult women with a bmi < 24.9 kg/m2.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the nutritional status of rubber tree plantations at zona da mata region, minas gerais state, brazil, to contribute with fertilization programs. soil class, fertility levels, nutritional state and production of dry rubber were determined in rubber plantations of the clone ian 873. most plantations occur over extremely acid oxisols with high contents of al and low values of n, p, k, sum of exchangeable basis and cation exchange capacity. calcium and mg contents varied from medium to high and showed negative correlation with dry rubber production. plant analysis showed unbalanced contents of n and k with low values but positive and significant correlation with dry rubber production. significant and negative correlation between dry rubber production and ca contents, associated to high contents of mg, showed that these nutrients may be reduced in fertilization schemes. copper was the only micronutrient that showed a significant correlation with dry rubber production, and it was positive.
Pascal, a justi a e os poderes
Paulo Ferreira da Cunha
Intercambio , 2010,
Abstract: A perfect master of a living style and a persuasive rhetoric, a respected scientist and mathematician, theologian, or at least strong and formidable apologist, Pascal is regarded as one of the greatest minds and of the most beautiful verb in French Thought. However, his philosophical reflections on law, justice and power and the powerful are less known, or boil down to the anecdote. In this article, after having recalled several facets of this figure in European culture, we emphasize its speculative contribution to the law, and highlight more than its timeliness, which is undeniable, the visible commitment of the author with what he thinks may be the Truth. Even in a field proverbially inclined to embarrassment and manipulations like this one of laws and politics.

Abstract: the laboratory waste management program of the chemistry department of ufpr started on 1997 and was developed to meet the requirements of co-processing in cement kiln and those of the respective regulation. the in-lab procedures for waste collection and treatment were devised taking into account their cost, simplicity and wide range of application to the various types of residues generated. the program works with a five step annual journey : 1) waste collection and treatment, 2) bulk storage, 3) licensing (for transportation and co-processing), 4) transportation and 5) co-processing.
