AbstractThe principles, criteria and forest certification indicators demand from companies more use of biological control and instead of esticides use. However, nowadays it’s common to see the use chemical strategies that allow minimizing impacts on non-target organisms. Respecting the due authorizations and legal dispositions, these strategies is used in the integrated pest management (IPM) programs. This paper presents a revision of literature, establishing a degree of evolution amongst the insecticides used in forest pest control. The chemical groups are classified in four generations: in the first, the non-organics; in the second, the organochlorides, organophosphate, carbamates and piretroids; in the third, the insect growth regulators and limonoids; in the fourth, the biotechnology and neonicotinoids, presenting their way of action and application methods. All techniques need to have the productivity increase as goal, while concurrently preserving the environment in a wide sense - considering the human being as part of the system.

Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2012.33023
Abstract: In spite of being a raw material of virtually unlimited availability due to the massive consumption of the highly popular coconut water, fiber produced from green coconut is much less used than the dried coconut fiber. The objective of this study was to investigate the performance of green (white) coconut fiber as a cushioning material for use in packaging systems. The mechanical performance of both green coconut fibers in their natural state as well as those molded into the shape of cushioning pads were evaluated by shock absorption tests. The results showed that the fibers without agglutination agents exhibited the best performance when submitted to increasing static loads by presenting the greatest capacity to reduce impact acceleration. In addition, green coconut fiber presented behavior similar to that of cellulosic cushioning materials and in certain situations can be considered effective in protecting products that are considered fragile.

Abstract: the article focuses on the activities of nurses and physical therapists within brazil's unified health system (sistema único de saúde), especially the family health program. with the appearance of new professions and redefinitions in the practices of traditional healthcare professions, the subsequent multi-professional, interdisciplinary type of work has presented challenges when it comes to training new generations of healthcare providers, all part of an endeavor to humanize care and provide universalist, integrated, high-quality services. collective health has contributed to this effort by networking with other fields of knowledge and human sciences. healthcare fields have also sometimes tended to disregard any type of exchange with the human sciences, preferring to limit interactions to biomedical fields.

Abstract: this is a study about women as health educators and public health nurses in the first half of the 20th century in brazil. historical sociology, as a methodological and theoretical tool, will guide our analysis of the relations among institutions, professional power, and identities, highlighting the ways through which women professionals were capable of creating their own territory of autonomous action. in brazil, the configuration of the public health field in the early 1920s was intimately associated with nation-building processes, and demanded new professionals for traditionally female occupations. the training of the young candidates took place at the oswaldo cruz institute, in rio de janeiro, at s?o paulo's institute of hygiene, at medical schools, in foreign centers such as the teachers college and the toronto school of nursing, as well as by means of on-the-job training. the sociological literature has stressed the (basically male) medical dominance, to the detriment of a focus on the new emerging professions. this trend has been clear in brazil, and it is time that the "sociological gaze" took a close interest in the unique role played by women as health educators and visiting nurses, based in community health centers as early as 1925 in s?o paulo, rio de janeiro and other centers, and in rural health units across the nation. health education was the key element in this new scenario of campaigns against endemic diseases a national practice which brazilians called "campanhismo" - that stressed non-authoritarian means in place of old schemes of medical policy.

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dyslipidemias and related factors, in Brazilian adolescents from rural and urban areas. This is a cross-sectional study with 182 adolescents aged 10 to 13 years, students, residing in the rural and urban area of Brazil; grouped according to age, gender and socioeconomic class. Sexual maturation, physical activity, blood pressure, nutritional status and body composition were evaluated. Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and serum triglycerides were dosed. The food frequency questionnaire was applied, quantifying energy, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, full fat and fibers. Bivariate and multiple analyses were carried out, by logistic regression. It was verified that 84.6% (n = 154) adolescents presented some lipid profile alteration. There was no difference in the lipid profile between adolescents for residence place. However, as for gender, it was noticed that girls presented higher levels of total cholesterol and HDL (p < 0.05). In addition, adolescents with excess weight and body fat showed lower HDL and higher triglycerides values compared with eutrophic and with those with appropriate body fat percentage (p < 0.05). In the multiple analyses, it was observed that gender and signs of sexual maturation were associated with total cholesterol; fiber intake remained associated with HDL and signs of sexual maturation with LDL (p < 0.05). For triglycerides the related factors were gender, nutritional status and protein intake (p < 0.05). The elevated prevalence of dyslipidemias found between adolescents from rural and urban areas reinforces the importance of monitoring these alterations and information as for the related risk factors, with programs for correction of changeable factors.
