Simulation and analysis of nonlinear self-focusing phenomenon based on ray-tracing

Abstract: The simulation of nonlinear self-focusing phenomenon using ray-tracing method can macroscopically provide an intuitive picture of the propagation of light in a self-focusing material, without adopting paraxial approximation or self-similar hypothesis. In this paper, propagation of light is sampled by discrete slices along a certain direction. Thus nonlinear propagation is turned into the combination of optical modulation of the refractive index on separate slices and linear propagation between each two adjacent slices. On each slice, after calculating the flux, we use a novel algorithm to suppress the quantized errors. For the linear propagating process, Adams method is adopted to solve the ray equations, which solve the problem that the widely used Runge-Kutta method cannot be used in simulation of light in nonlinear materials. The simulation results reveal that there are several foci along the propagating axis and the location of the first focus becomes closer to the incident plane as the power of light goes up. Furthermore, because the program traces real rays, it is possible to reach the non-paraxial region and reveal the phenomenon of ring-structure flux distributions caused by self-focusing. This is significant for the safety of high-power laser systems. Some commercial optical design and simulation software are also based on ray-tracing methods. Thus the systems including both nonlinear and linear materials are possible to simulate, which can guide people to set up the corresponding experimental systems.

Abstract: Synchronization of the applause with leaders is investigated. The cases of the presence or absence of the effect of the applause transmission time delay on the part of the spectators are considered rcspectively. Sufficient conditions for the applause synchronization are presented for each case. The obtained theoretical results not only manifest the observation that rhythmic applauses are more frequently heard in a theater with high attendance rate, but also show a surprising conclusion that one leader is enough to make all spectators clap with the same frequency in a very large theater. Furthermore, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the validity of the theoretical results.

Abstract: The performance of the high resolution direction finding technique based on the spatial spectrum estimation is severely suffered with channel mismatching and mutual coupling between elements in arrays. In this paper, the mechanism of performance degradation due to above mentioned factors is analysed, and an effective method of compensation for channel mismatching and mutual coupling is proposed.

Abstract: In this paper, a new interior point algorithm-high-order affine scaling for a class of nonmonotonic linear complementary problems is developed . On the basis of idea of primal-dual affine scaling method for linear programming , the search direction of our algorithm is obtained by a linear system of equation at each step . We show that, by appropriately choosing the step size, the algorithm has polynomial time complexity. We also give the numberical results of the algorithm for two test problems.

Abstract: Vision-based human motion analysis is receiving increasing attention from computer vision researchers. It becomes the hotspot of the field of image analysis, psychology and artificial intelligence. It has a wide application in intelligent video surveillance, virtual reality, user interfaces and motion analysis. In this paper, moving target detection, classification, tracking and human action recognition are overviewed. We analyze some problems and challenges. Finally, some research directions in the future are discussed.

Abstract: By Bring in integral principle and the idea of Kruskal/2-opt algorism, a new tour construction algorism with time complicity O(N2) is presented in this paper. In fact, carving path of laser carving machine could be transferred to the traveling salesman problem(TSP) and optimized for laser carving process(LCP). In this algorism, some reasonable small loops are constructed in the first step, then larger loops are progressively synthesized with the small ones from bottom to top and in the end, a near-optimal resolution can be captured in this way. Moving distance resulted from this calculation is about 1.1 times of lower bound due to Held and Karp. Experimental results show that in the case of laser engraving machine, this algorism can reduce the vacancy path by 88%.

Abstract: In this paper, a 2.5-dimensional macro-particle model is proposed for a nonaxisymmetrical and large width-height ratio sheet beam klystron (SBK) and a corresponding beam-wave interaction program is developed. An X-band 100-MW SBK is simulated for testing the computing capability of the program. The results are in good agreement with those from 3D PIC software, and the computation time can greatly be reduced, which is useful for the initial design and the optimization of the SBK beam-wave interaction structure.

Abstract: The sheet beam with a large width-high ratio is nonaxisymmetrical, which is very suitable to the formation of the electron beam in high power microwave and millimeter wave vacuum devices. In this paper, a 2D macroparticle model is proposed for developing a program to study the sheet beam transmission. The transmission of the sheet beam in an uniform magnetic field and Periodic Cusped Magnetic (PCM) field is discussed, and the calculation results are compared with the single particle model and 3D PIC software, which show good agreement with 3D PIC software’s and the computation time is greatly reduced.

Abstract: The dumb bell resonant cavities characteristics for W-band sheet beam klystron (SBK) are analyzed with one-, three-, and five-gap coupled cavity models by three dimensional high frequency simulation software(CST-MSW). The effects, which are caused by different dimensional sizes, to the cold parameters are analyzed. For the particle in cell (PIC) simulation analysis, we firstly make a research of the optimum cavity frequency combination of eight-cavity WSBK circuit using 2-D software SBK2D, which runs quickly, thereby allowing an efficient investigation of input parameters. To unify the electronic-beam wave interaction system's hot parameter design, the calculation results are examined by PIC simulation (MAGIC-3D),which show good agreement with CST, thereby confirming the design method which this article gave. These results provide key parameters and a good foundation for developing higher performance on RF structure of sheet beam klystron in the future.
