Experiment on combined electrokinetic remediation with PRB of cadmium contaminated groundwater

Abstract: The efficiency of electrokinetic remediation of cadmium contaminated groundwater was researched by means of experiments in this paper, and the migration and variation characteristics of cadmium was analyzed too. The experimental results indicated that the pH value varied obviously during the electrokinetic remediation because of the oxidation and reduction near the electrodes, and the pH value near the positive electrode changed from 7.0 in initial stage to 6.8 at later stage, and the pH value was on the contrary near the negative electrode, namely, changed from 6.9 in the beginning to 9.1 in the last, which made known that the condition of acidity and alkalinity in soil varied clearly. The variation of cadmium concentration made known that the migration of heavy metal was weak in the aquifer and the removal efficiency of cadmium near the positive electrode was only 8.4% in the condition of natural permeation, but the concentration of heavy metal varied obviously in groundwater under the electric field, and the heavy metal pollutant could be enriched and removed in the vicinity of electrode. The removal efficiency of cadmium in the groundwater near the positive electrode was 72.9% when the experimental intensity of electric field was 0.5 V/cm, which indicated that the effect of electrokinetic remediation of cadmium contaminated groundwater was evidently higher than that in the condition of natural permeation.

Abstract: The electro-remediation method of soil contaminated by heavy metals was researched by means of experiments in this paper, and the characteristic and mechanism for distribution and migration of heavy metals were analyzed. The experimental results indicated that the concentrations of heavy metals changed obviously in soil in electric field and most of the heavy metal pollutants can be enriched and removed in the vicinity of electrodes. The removal efficiency of copper in the soil of vicinity of positive electrode was 71. 1% when the experimental intensity of electric-field was 0. 5 V/cm. The pH value closing to the positive electrode changed from 6. 8 in initial stage to 4. 4 at later stage, and the pH value was on the contrary closing to the negative electrode, namely, changed from 6.6 in the beginning to 9. 1 in the last. In addition, the temperature nearby electrodes changed during the process of the electro-remediation.

Abstract: Using the principle of elastic dynamics of rock and the variational method of elastic mechanics, the dynamic mechanism is explored of landslide damming by shock wave when the landslide mass is sharply disintegrated and collides with high moving speed. The calculating formula is proposed to deal with the compaction density of rock and soil. Based on the in-situ geotechnical testing, the proposed landslide dynamics is confirmed.

Abstract: The experimental research on the static degradation and treatment of groundwater contaminated by herbicide atrazine was conducted by using bacterium AT which was isolated from the sludge outlet of workshop of the pesticide factory. And the result indicated that bacterium AT had the ability of degradation of atrazine with pH ranged from 5.0 to 10.0, and the optimum extent was 6.5-8.0. The experimental conditions (pH = 7.5, t = 10 degrees C) were similar to that of the aquifer in study area. Then the rate of degradation of atrazine was up to 31.08% for one addition of bacterium AT. And the environmental factors changed simultaneously in the course of experiment such as DO, pH and etc. decreasing with the reducing of concentration of bacterium AT. In addition, a mode of dropping bacteria was designed to simulate the condition of throwing bacteria in field. And the permeability of aquifer decreased 60.54% after treatment and the renewals were 48.96% after washing with clean water for 10 days, which indicated the method of renewal is effectual.

Abstract: An algorithm for simultaneous truth and performance estimation of various approaches for human cortical surface parcellation was proposed. The probabilistic true segmentation was estimated as a weighted combination of the segmentations resulted from multiple methods. Afterward,an Expectation-Maximization algorithm was used to optimize the weighting depending on the estimated performance level of each method. Furthermore, a spatial homogeneity constraint modeled by the Hidden Markov Random Field theory was incorporated to refine the estimated true segmentation into a spatially homogenous decision. The proposed method was evaluated using both synthetic and real data. Also, it was used to generate reference sulci regions to perform a comparison study of three methods for cortical surface parcel lation. The experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
