Questioning the Weber Thesis: Capitalist Ethics and the Hebrew Bible?  [PDF]
Sigmund Wagner-Tsukamoto
Sociology Mind (SM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2012.21001
Abstract: Weber’s thesis proposed that it was ascetic Protestantism which supported the emergence of modern capitalism in 17th and 18th century Europe, and that this was a completely new and unique phenomenon in the history of mankind up to that point in time. This paper casts doubt on the Weber thesis by examining findings from an economic reconstruction of the Hebrew Bible, and proposing that modern capitalism the way Weber understood it is already visible in the ancient religious text of the “Hebrew Bible”. By means of institutional economic reconstruction, I show that the Hebrew Bible and particularly the stories involving Jacob and Joseph reveal a conceptual structure that can be compared with ideas of modern constitutional and institutional economics. Through this reconstruction, I find myself in agreement with one of Weber’s early but largely forgotten adversaries, Werner Sombart, who suggested, in a behavioral tradition, that other religions, and more specifically Jewish thought, contributed to the emergence of modern capitalism long before the advent of Protestantism.

Abstract: This essay reflects on some implications of archaeology in the scope of South Frontier, in the Argentine Republic. Specially it pays attention to the material meaning of his old bastions in the social process that turned Desert in “Estancia” and the rural people in modern proletarians. The confused “ethno-geography” of the aboriginal enemy of the forts and forts, anchored in the tents, changing permanently places and taking the cattle towards Chile forms a part of a scene complex and not known deeply still. Everything ended when the ethnic differences became ideological up to coming to the total conflict, thesis Bechis that we adopt.
Frontier Science Philosophies for Quality Lives  [PDF]
Akbar Nikkhah
Open Journal of Philosophy (OJPP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojpp.2012.22020
Abstract: The optimum science benefits to routine life have insufficiently been proved. Science progress is not merely reflected in machinery and technological breakthroughs. Subordinate impacts of science and scientists on global interactions are an evidence for the major deficiencies and futility of the many current science designations. A primary objective is to describe postmodern global interrelations of science mentoring policies and life quality. Also, global programs are proposed that will aid in the timely achievement of optimal real-life science goals. The global wholeness of science pictures should be visible, acknowledged, and educated. The wholeness of science, no matter how exposed or sophisticated, should never change. Definitive paths should be developed to bestow science with sufficiently empowered authorities to lead and optimize economics, politics, and international relations. Mentoring rather than teaching of science will be a main frontier for quality lives. Postmodern mentors will be cognizant of the science entirety. Mentors will create and designate definitive shapes from discoveries and findings that will grant human life with ongoing peace and ultimate satisfaction.
Reviewing the trends of nursing doctoral thesis research in Hong Kong  [PDF]
Yingchun Zeng, Samantha Pang
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2012.24051
Abstract: This review aimed to analyze the trends and contributions of nursing doctoral theses produced in Hong Kong. A total of 56 nursing doctoral theses were included in this review. The most often studied topic was cardiovascular rehabilitation care (n = 9, 16%). More recently, the most often studied topics has been health technology advancements in nursing care (n = 6, 10.7%). The common trend of study methods was to be quantitative in nature. Of the total, 35 out of 56 were quantitative studies. Half were experimental/ quasi-experimental research studies (n = 28, 50%). For theoretical foundations or applications, the majority (n = 21, 36%) of doctoral theses had no specific theoretical/conceptual models as study frameworks. This trend indicates that there is space for improving the theoretical and philosophical foundation of nursing research in Hong Kong. For the contributions of doctoral thesis research, Hong Kong nursing scholars place more emphasis on direct enhancement of clinical practice or the improvement of patient outcomes. This review provides concrete evidence of the status of nursing research and knowledge development in Hong Kong nursing.
Efficient Frontier via Production Functions and Mechanization  [PDF]
Hideki Nakamura
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2017.71004
Abstract: This study attempts to reconcile data envelopment analysis (DEA) with the production function approach in economics. We examine not only the inputs of capital and labor, but also the ranges of these inputs in production process steps, and endogenously derive a Leontief production function. The Leontief production functions shift northeasterly owing to mechanization, which is the replacement of labor inputs by capital inputs in some steps. Consequently, we describe the efficient frontier as the convex hull of the Leontief production functions. Furthermore, we consider the possibility of efficient production below the efficient frontier.

A General Class of Convexification Transformation for the Noninferior Frontier of a Multiobjective Program  [PDF]
Tao Li, Yanjun Wang, Zhian Liang
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2013.33036
Abstract: A general class of convexification transformations is proposed to convexify the noninferior frontier of a multiobjective program. We prove that under certain assumptions the noninferior frontier could be convexified completely or partly after transformation and then weighting method can be applied to identify the noninferior solutions. Numerical experiments are given to vindicate our results.

Challenges and Coping Strategies Adopted by Postgraduate Students of Agricultural Education in Thesis Writing in Nigerian Universities  [PDF]
Vincent C. Asogwa, Adoo D. Wombo, Charles U. Ugwuoke
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2014.45030
Abstract: The study investigated challenges encountered and coping strategies adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in writing thesis in Nigerian universities. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study was conducted in Nigerian universities offering post-graduate programme in agricultural education. The population for the study was 118 made up of 14 postgraduate diploma, 66 masters and 38 doctoral students writing thesis in agricultural education. The entire population was involved in the study. An instrument tilted: Challenges and Coping Strategies Questionnaire (CCSQ) was used for data collection. Three experts validated the questionnaire. Cronbach alpha reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the questionnaire. A reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. A total of 97 copies of the questionnaire were returned representing 93 percent return rate. Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while Analysis of Variance was used to test hypothesis of no significant difference at P ≤ 0.05 level of significance. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was the tool employed to analyze the data collected. It was found out that 28 challenges were encountered by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing while 15 coping strategies were adopted by postgraduate students of agricultural education in thesis writing. The recommendations were that postgraduate students of agricultural education who have abandoned their thesis writing should adopt the identified coping strategies to complete their programme among others.
Outro lado da fronteira agrícola: breve história sobre a origem e declínio da agricultura autóctone no cerrado
Feltran-Barbieri, Rafael;
Ambiente & Sociedade , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-753X2010000200008
Abstract: turner's thesis that frontier had forged convergence between democracy and individual economic ascension did not inspire latin american critical studies because here the reality showed the other side of the frontier: a space where the social conflicts of the dynamic centers were purged and exacerbated. in this process, the first conflicts did not occur among the migrant population and workers hired by the absent landowner, but among everyone else against the indians. much has been discussed about it but very few have focused on the other side of frontiers: the indigenous agriculture. this is clearer when one considers the cerrado region. in the past 10 years only 5 articles, including national and international journals, analyzed the indian agriculture history and practices in cerrado. the goal of this paper is to offer a brief history of indians agrarian systems, from their origin to decline, in brazilian cerrados.
