Theologica Xaveriana , 2009,
Abstract: after thirty years of teaching activity, the author questions himself on the meaning of theological reflection. after admitting the importance of the three basic considerations -the fundamental theology as fides quaerens intellectum, the theology-wisdom as reflection (that provides an interpretive code for the discernment of being christian in the world) and theology as praxis for a liberating transformation toward god's reign in a world of oppression and sin-, he accords a special interest to the two last mentioned in the present situation of atheism and dehumanization.
La realidad crucial de los pobres da que pensar a la teología latinoamericana: Teología y literatura desde esta ladera del mundo
Teología y vida , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492009000100009
Abstract: forty years after the second general conference of latin american bishops in medellín, colombia, we look at the evolution of latin american theology, particularly its openness to the literary manifestations of the cultures of our peoples. this openness responds to a search for an approach by theology that is more attentive to the complexity and richness of the situation in which men and women of the continent find themselves. in this article, we evaluate the contribution of three thinkers in the context of dialogue between theology and literature: pedro trigo, antonio manzatto and josé carlos barcelos.
Comparative Theology as Liberal and Confessional Theology
Klaus von Stosch
Religions , 2012, DOI: 10.3390/rel3040983
Abstract: For most European scholars, the scope of Comparative Theology is not very clear. They see big differences between the notion of Comparative Theology among its protagonists, e.g., between Keith Ward or Robert Neville and Francis Clooney or James Fredericks. That is why I will try to define a certain understanding of Comparative Theology which can be defended in accordance with strong European theological traditions. I want to show that Comparative Theology can be understood as one of the best fruits of liberal theology and of a Wittgensteinian interpretation of transcendental philosophy—and that it opens new perspectives for confessional theology. The current development of Islamic theology in Germany is especially challenging for Comparative Theology and the best opportunity to develop it into a project undertaken by scholars of different religions and different intellectual traditions. I will argue that Comparative Theology is not a new discipline within the old disciplines of theology, but that it can give new perspectives to all theological disciplines and thoroughly change their character.
A pastoral evaluation of menopause in the African context
Elijah Baloyi
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2013,
Abstract: Menopause, with its physical and emotional changes, appears to be an inevitable road for women to travel. The moment of choice for women at menopause involves not only whether they will embrace the new self or try to cling to identities from earlier life but also how the society in which they live views women after menopause. Amongst other things, many African marriages face difficulties when the moment of menopause arrives. This situation is often characterised by a second marriage or a situation where husband and wife no longer share a room. Whenever this happens, it testifies to the idea that the sole purpose of marriage amongst African people is procreation – hence, when the period for that is passed, the bedroom setup changes. This is one of the ways in which senior women are deemed unfit for sexual encounters, a gender-equality concern. This article aims to unveil and discuss how some Africans use menopause as an excuse to exclude women from sexual intercourse, and how pastoral caregivers can help in such situations.
Theologica Xaveriana , 2010,
Abstract: this essay wants to practically show the value of processual philosophy depending on biblical theology. processual philosophy, created by alfred north whitehead, has as its central theme its novel doctrine of creation. this work focuses on gn 1,1-3, which presents a syntactical problem, not yet completely resolved, clearly presented by rashi in the 11th century ad and proposed in the jewish publication society translation. the text can be accepted due to its importance and the clarification that might be presented about it by processual philosophy, as well as it may happen with the unresolved and perhaps unsolvable problem of the book of job's interpretation, can be better understood with the contribution of processual philosophy.
El carácter práctico de la teología
de Mori,Geraldo;
Teología y vida , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492010000300003
Abstract: this article shows how the practical aspect is a fundamental constituent of the theological endeavor. such practical aspect, which is obvious for theology as stated in the thesis of this study, is portrayed as being problematic since it has given rise to entry points so diverse that, in the end, they question the legitimacy and scientificity of practical theology.
La teología práctica de Karl Rahner: Una teología pastoral en perspectiva escatológica
Teología y vida , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492010000300001
Abstract: this study echoes the little explored eschatological and critical foundation of rahner's practical theology. the author first focuses on the raherian concept of practical theology, its purpose, goals and interdisciplinarity, showing, secondly, how its pastoral proposal is carried out from an eschatological perspective. thus, it is possible to move towards a better clarification of the foundation, structure and method of practical theology.
The theology and praxis of practical theology in the context of the Faculty of Theology
Tobias H. Steyn,Maake J. Masango
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2011, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v67i2.956
Abstract: Notwithstanding the carefully defined parameters of the various departments within theology, the aspirant student sometimes finds it difficult to define the precise department within which a specific study would best be located. We have discovered that these various fields and departments have many areas of commonality and the borders between them are tested often, even in our own studies. However, we have learned that crossing between one field and another should not be seen as a problem but as strength, as it will enable the researcher to motivate and test his or her theological convictions. It is in this context that the subject of this article finds its motivation. Through it we have argued for a practical theology that will be responsible for engaging with its own theology, in order to find the necessary energy to sustain itself. Not only should practical theology be energised by its theology, it should also, as its name implies, be practical in its nature, offering help to all people in need of pastoral care.
Abstract: Theology of the covenant or theology of the kingdom? Dogmatic reflections on the relation between the covenant and the kingdom as pivotal theological themes In this article the author attempts, with reference to the historical development of the concepts covenant and kingdom, to investigate their importance for theology in general and for dogmatics in particular, as well as to answer the question whether priority should be given to one of them in theology. He demonstrates how some theologians have developed their theology around one of the concepts – which is of course possible – but recommends that in the end a correlative approach – in which the one concept complements the other – would produce the best results for theology.
Teologia e Política
Francisco de Aquino Júnior
REVER : Revista de Estudos da Religi?o , 2008,
Abstract: Beyond a historically contestable and verifiable fact, the relationship between Theology and Politics belongs to the structure of Christian revelation, faith, and theology. It is a constitutive element of Christian dynamism. In this article we will seek to make clear the real and praxic structural character of this relationship in Christian dynamism and to outline a praxic-theoretical “model” which respects and strengthens both the unity between Theology and Politics and the autonomy of one from the other.
