Social Protection in a Matching Model: The Case of Basic Income  [PDF]
Samir Amine, Pedro Lages Dos Santos
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2012.21005
Abstract: Faced with increasing poverty and the relative inefficiency of their redistribution systems, many countries are turning to new instruments of social policy. Many economists found there an opportunity to present the mechanism of basic income as the new way forward by the modern social protection. We show that, in a matching model with differentiation agents, the introduction of the basic income has no effect on the balance of the labor market.

Pochmann, Marcio;
S?o Paulo em Perspectiva , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-88392004000200002
Abstract: the difference between the countries in the center of capitalism and those on its periphery, regarding social protection, is shocking. in the periphery there was difficulty in completing the social welfare state, in the same way the local elites blocked the advances of democracy. in spite of this, the small social apparatus constructed since the 1930's began to be strongly questioned after the 80's crisis. thus, the challenge today is to overcome the social exclusion, by building a new social democracy.

Abstract: this exploratory work examines the social isolation experienced by individuals with leprosy admitted to the former colony tavares de macedo, itaboraí, where they were kept from the 1930s until the present day, to question notions of segregation and social discrimination present in this environment. so it analyzes sociabilities and social care networks established in the common life in this "ex-leper colony," usually as alternatives to the conditions offered by the public systems of social protection. the work is based on stories of some of the subjects, seen in their differences - at intersection of gender relations, classes, races/ethnicities, generations and also by religions and educational backgrouns. it adopts the oral history, so as to offer new qualitative interpretations of social and historical processes shown in these networks and sociability, not always visible as unique forms of social protection of life in groups.

Costa, Suely Gomes;
Tempo , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-77042008000100009

Revista Katálysis , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-49802007000100008
Abstract: this text identifies continuities and changes in the brazilian social protection system during the lula government (2003-2006). it analyzes the expectations following the re-election of the president, the criticisms made of his government and then identifies the changes that occurred and those necessary in its trajectory. conducting a review of the lula government is not an easy task, for a number of reasons. these include the disappointment of some intellectuals in light of their frustration as current or former members or sympathizers of the workers party (pt), the president's party; the risk of mistakes in the analysis and their consequent use by those who have personal, professional and social plans and space available to exploit the issue. nevertheless, some elements are presented, seeking a better understanding of the current administration.
