História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702010000500007
Abstract: the article analyzes initiatives taken by physicians from both the private and public sectors who contributed to placing the fight against cancer on the federal government's agenda of public health policies, which became embodied in the 1941 creation of brazil's national cancer service. the text also aims to show that this historical process was directly related to the international context of scientific exchange between brazil and the united states that was encouraged under the good-neighbor policy of the 1940s. it calls attention to political disputes over the coordination of efforts to fight the disease at the federal level.

URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0202281 This contribution reports on the last two years of FQS Review, a permanent element of FQS. The arrangements we have made with various publishers are discussed and the editorial process, from finding reviewers until a review finally is published, is explained. Overall, the story of FQS Review seems to be one of success, not only in terms of the number of reviews and review essays published, but also in terms of the reviews being increasingly recognized as valuable contributions of their own, discussing relevant topics from various research fields. Despite these positive effects, our aim to foster greater exchanges between various scientific cultures and/or nationalities has not yet been accomplished. Two observations inform this conclusion: First, the users of FQS (readers, authors of the media units, etc.) have not used the FQS Discussion Board to make remarks or replies to the reviews nor have they have not presented additional views, comments, etc. Second, the language of the reviews typically reflects the language of the respective media unit and this means that specific discourses seldom cross language boundaries. The opportunity, therefore, to influence similar discussions, taking place in other tongues, seldom occurs. Epistemología popular: condicionantes subjetivos de la credibilidad
López Cerezo,José Antonio;
Revista iberoamericana de ciencia tecnolog?-a y sociedad , 2008,
Abstract: this work addresses the subjective conditions for credibility and the attribution of trust in social communication of science and, in general, the processes of knowledge transfer. it is an incipient research line that can offer some interesting results. adapting the previous notion of civic epistemology, i will argue that the users of knowledge are attitudinally active agents in the appropriation of knowledge, and their attitudes have an origin a limited repertory of epistemic styles. thus, the development of popular epistemology may be useful for a better understanding of the conditions of scientific culture, and, in general, for the policies of knowledge promotion and management and governance of science.

URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0003400 In the first part of this text, I would like to describe some advantages book reviews offer. The book reviews—providing the fact that they succeed in offering more than just a short content description to the reader—can also contribute to scientific discourses in a similar way regular contributions do. One of the reasons why book reviews currently often do not fulfil this possible function is due to the existing restrictions within traditional print media publishing. Additionally worth mentioning are actual standards within the scientific community which tend to underestimate the value of book reviews or review essays. In the second part, I will discuss some developmental potentials in book reviews which up to now were hardly recognized: Especially with the Internet and its characteristics-nearly unlimited space resources; flexible publishing time and design of the contributions; chance for a direct exchange between researchers, for example using discussion boards—a re-evaluation of book reviews and review essays seems to be possible and reasonable.

Vujovi? Sreten ?.
Sociologija , 2003, DOI: 10.2298/soc0303237v
Abstract: This article refers to the scientific and professional relations between Serbian economists and their counterparts from the West. Opinions of Serbian economists about the others and otherness are considered within the context of post socialist transformation at the turn of millennium. Firstly, the statements about scientific exchange with foreign, i.e. Western professionals and institutions are discussed referring to experienced pleasant and unpleasant surprises as well as to the effects of scientific cooperation in view of "we"-"others" relationship, i.e. mutual learning process and reception of knowledge and professional behavior types. In relation to that, the differences between egalitarian liberals and libertarians among our economist", are pointed out. Finally, arguments of interviewed experts about privatization in Serbia, its characteristics and effects are presented.
Rebok, Sandra
Arbor : Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura , 2011, DOI: 10.3989/arbor.2011.747n1016
Abstract: This article describes different German initiatives to institutionalize the scientific exchange with Spain during the interwar period. From the beginning these efforts were focused on the cities of Barcelona and Madrid and started up in 1923 with the inauguration in Barcelona of the Centro de Estudios Alemanes y de Intercambio, followed two years later by the Centro de Intercambio Intelectual Germano-Espa ol. Both institutions were devoted to fomenting interest in German language and culture present in Spain in order to strengthen Spanish-German relationships in all contexts, including the administrative management of academic exchange. In addition, another relevant initiative would enter the scene in 1927: the G rres Institut in Madrid, motivated more by its Catholic roots and its dedication to research itself than to the exchange of information or scientists. In this way, along with other scientific institutions in the following years, a close scientific collaboration between both countries was made possible until the Spanish Civil War and the subsequent World War put an end to promising endeavors.
Exchange Market Pressure in China: A Re-Examination Based on Girton-Roper Monetary Model  [PDF]
Xiangsheng Dou
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2017.75089
Abstract: For China’s inefficient foreign exchange market, as the foreign exchange market is difficult to clear in time, so the foreign exchange market pressure always exists. Therefore, the in-depth study and discussion of China’s foreign exchange market pressure issue has important practical significance. This paper applies Lance Girton and Don Roper’s monetary model of exchange market pressure to China’s experience. The purpose of this paper is mainly to test whether the excess supply of money in China can be absorbed by some combination of the change in exchange rate and the change in foreign reserves. The results of empirical analysis indicate that the basic theoretical proposition is accordant with the practice.
