Am I Motivated? A Look at the Motivation Styles, Symptoms and Working Conditions that Best Motivate Human Resource Practitioners in Jamaica  [PDF]

Abstract: Human Resource Practitioners, like any other employees within organizations having different motivation styles, are faced with various motivational problems, and are exposed to different working conditions that best motivate them. The environment and factors greatly influence the motivational levels of these practitioners and thus job satisfaction and engagement are affected. This paper outlines the motivation problems experienced by three persons in their work environment and gives suggestions as to the strategies necessary to deal with them. The Pritchard Motivation Symptoms Questionnaire, the Conner Motivation Style Assessment and the Spitzer Motivation Self Assessment Questionnaire were used in the study. Results show that goal orientated and learning oriented motivation styles are best practiced by participants neglecting the relationship motivation style. These Participants were either highly motivated or had experienced some motivation problems. They had major desires for power, achievement, ownership, and competence. Inter-item correlation revealed a statistically significant relationship between desires for activity, competence, power and achievement, which were highly correlated.

Abstract: the professional motivation is considered a result of unconscious motivational efforts, and is predetermined since early childhood by the mechanism of identification. the professional motivation is believed to be an invariable formation of the personality, therefore it is, as j. ken states, about choosing the most suitable people for a certain profession, taking into account people's individual traits. the design used in the following research is descriptive-retrospective type, aimed at knowing the relation between motivation for the nursing specialty, professional orientation, retention and promotion in second year nursing students csipj medical school, 1st. semester, course 2004-2005. the universe consisted of 335 students on the pedagogical new-model course of the nursing specialty who were surveyed. mined and csipj represented the highest percentage of nursing students' insertion into the new pedagogical model. the students' liking the profession was evident. there was relation between the retention and promotion rates, which are considered acceptable in spite of the program of professional orientation and vocational formation in the course of comprehensive self-improvement, not having the tools. the motivation for the nursing specialty positively influenced the academic results. it was recommended to develop a program of professional orientation addressed to courses on comprehensive self-improvement, as wel as developing, by tutor professors, a program of vocational reaffirmation to be applied to nursing specialty.

Abstract: the work investigates the various approaches to the issue of motivation, and in this context observes and questions the idea of school motivation that emphasizes the role of tasks, turning the completion of the latter into the motivation to carry out the activities required by the school, instead of stressing the motivation to learn. the author indicates some aspects or variables that should be considered when building up school motivation. these pointers are specifically related to the incorporation inside this construct of the reasons pupils have to attend school, and which give meaning to their school learning, thereby complementing the variables associated to the tasks. thus, without forgetting that the students must put effort into the completion of the tasks designed for their learning, we should recall the essentials of school motivation, namely, that which drives, conducts and sustains the students' efforts, and triggers cognitive resources to learn. a learning which, as it is consensual among educators, must not limit itself to the mere acquisition of information, but should be processed. the knowledge constructed (pozo, 2003) is thus made meaningful (ausubel, 1978) and deep (beas, 1994; beas et al., 2001).

Abstract: Persons with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) face multiple health barriers that are improved with exercise, but they seldom exercise due to a variety of barriers, of which amotivation is primary. In the current study, we investigated the subjective experiences of persons with SSDs following a formal exercise program. Twenty seven persons with SSDs who had taken part in a 16-week walking program provided feedback during exit interviews. Our purpose was to ascertain whether comments provided evidence of development of intrinsic motivation as defined by Ryan and Deci’s self determination of behavior theory. Our directed content analysis resulted in 5 thematic codes: autonomy, competence, relatedness, health benefits and personal enjoyment. Results highlight the importance of health-related group activities in supporting competence, relatedness and autonomy. Development and testing of interventions to support intrinsic motivation is critical to improving the health of this vulnerable group.

KTV is an important recreation activity in Taiwan. Since the recreation activities are more diversified because of the progress of information technology and the leisure policy of government lead to many free recreation places and activities existed, KTV service as a kind of recreation activities but not free and face a keener competition. This study tries to explore how to strengthen the thrust for consumer to choose KTV as their recreation activity through understanding the motivations for KTV consumption with empirical data and provides suggestions to help improve the KTV service.

This paper discusses how to arouse students’ potentialities in learning English by using two important non-intelligence factors: motivation and attitude. With the need to address the diversity of language learners in the contemporary ESL context, the value of non-intelligence factors cannot be underestimated. There are several non-intelligence factors that influence success or failure in English learning, but the two major ones include motivation and attitude. Motivation drives students towards a desired goal, while attitude shapes students’ perceptions of the curriculum, peers, as well as the instructor. It is important for language educators to recognize the value of these factors if quality outcomes in terms of English learning are to be delivered.

Entrepreneurship Motivation: Tunisian Case  [PDF]

The entrepreneurship option was launched in Tunisia nearly one decade ago. The firm creation process seemed to be initiated especially to absorb the increasing number of undergraduates and graduates. Therefore, the main aim of the present research is to highlight the entrepreneurship motivation as a social issue and to understand the link existing between motivator factors and economic and social success. Hence, a survey by questionnaire was conducted based on 100 respondents representing Tunisian entrepreneurs. The results revealed that there are links between motivator factors and entrepreneurship as well as some ties between entrepreneurship, motivator factors and the antecedents, especially concerning gender, age and family background. The results have shown some differences existing between male and female entrepreneurs. Male entrepreneursmotivator factors are in the same importance with push and pull ones. Female entrepreneurs’ motivator factors are rather emotional. These results are statistically significance. Thus, the finding would be useful for the stakeholders to understand the entrepreneurship dynamic.

Rural Alabama currently lacks resources to significantly impact the trend of increasing rates of diabetes. Therefore, this pilot study was designed to evaluate the effect of an education intervention on knowledge, motivation, and attitudes of participants with Type II diabetes mellitus. The aim was to improve lifestyle and overall control of diabetes for a rural, vulnerable population. Ten participants (7 with diabetes and 3 with pre-diabetes) attended three class sessions over a two-month period with presentations focused on general diabetes information, diet, exercise, and proper management through glucose measurement and medications. A pre- and post-survey design evaluated participants’ behaviors, knowledge, motivation and attitude towards making lifestyle changes. Responses were compared pre- to post-intervention. While knowledge levels related to diabetes, diet, and exercise increased, the changes were not statistically significant. Similarly, participants expressed increased motivation towards weight loss, healthful eating, exercise and positive lifestyle choices. However, these changes were not statistically significant. This pilot study demonstrates an increase in personal knowledge, motivation, and attitude for a small group of patients with diabetes or pre-diabetes. These group classes are inexpensive and will be easy to replicate with larger groups. They demonstrate the potential to motivate patients towards positive change.

Abstract: Motivation to teach is a complex construct; often it is not observed directly but rather inferred from the teachers’ behavioural indexes, such as verbalisations, task choices and goal-directed activities. It is related to what energises, directs and sustains teachers’ behaviour as they move toward accomplishing their goals of student achievement. Metacognitive attitude is considered an interrelated concept to motivation to teach and refers to teachers’ conscious awareness of their thought processes; it is considered as an essential component of the process of teaching for learning. It includes self-regulation (teacher self-regualted are able to transform their mental ability and teaching knowledge into teaching skills in the classroom with their students) and self-efficacy (it refers to teachers’ beliefs about their own values, competencies, and accomplishments). The present study investigates the relation between work motivation and metacognitive attitude in a sample of Italian teachers, working in Primary, Middle and High School. Data analysis showed strong correlation between the two dimensions investigated, giving important suggestions about teachers’ lifelong learning.
