Detection of bleeding patterns in WCE video using TV-Retinex  [PDF]

Abstract: The Retinex theory is used to deal with the removal of unfavorable illumination effects from images. In this paper, we present the Retinex theory for bleeding detection in wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE). This processing is quite appropriate to refresh old bleeding region and bleeding region in shadow. A novel total variation model (TV-Retinex) is proposed to solve the Retinex problem quickly; also a support vector machine is employed for classification. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

Abstract: Compared with only thirty-five years ago, today’s China is a different country. As recently as the early 1980s, despite universal poverty, there were universal, life-time employment, cheap work-place-provided housing, national healthcare, and free college education. For those who were born under communism, attitudes toward capitalism were largely negative and large disparities in income and wealth were seen as immoral and unjust. Today the state no longer assigns jobs to those who have completed their education and urban life-time employment and national healthcare are long gone. While there have been stunning improvements in living conditions, the rapid increases in housing prices, coupled with increasing unemployment and a disappearance of job security and national health care, have made ordinary people vulnerable. Because China has become one of the most unequal societies in the world in terms of income and wealth, there is also a sense of discontent among many of its citizens. Using a 2006 national survey, we explore how these changes have affected the public attitudes toward economic reform and communist rule. To our surprise, we found general agreement across different generation, education, and income-mobility groups as regards market economy, the legitimacy of profit-making and income inequality, the role and authority of the government, and the causes of poverty and inequality. The differences among generation, education, and income groups are largely in degree. We suggest that the lack of generation, income, and education differences on attitudes may be due to material benefits brought by the market economy and high economic growth.

Abstract: In recent years, flower e-commerce develops rapidly and attracts extensive attention from relevant fields; flower e-commerce of personalized customization is the unique development pattern. On the basis of illustrating the representative flower e-commerce enterprise of personalized customization in China—The Beast, this paper tries to analyze the unique marketing strategy of The Beast via 4C theoretical model and social media marketing theory, so as to provide references for the future flower e-commerce enterprises. According to the researches, The Beast adopts the e-commerce mode operated by new media and development strategy of lateral extension. It chooses the consumer-oriented pulling-type marketing strategy; taste and fashion are its core competitiveness. The important means of maintaining customer group is to keep a smooth and effective “dialogue” and “communication” with consumers through weibo. The key measure of maintaining fans activity is to propagandize the company products and image by relying on powerful star opinion leaders.

Abstract: In recent years, brand crises are becoming increasingly prevalent in the global marketplace. Given that brand crises have many devastating effects, how to manage them effectively has become a hot topic among marketing researchers and practitioners. Based on the review of literatures concerned, this paper first analysed the concept and types of brand crises. Then this article summarized the response strategies that corporations can take during that hard time. Furthermore, this paper identified some factors that influence the effectiveness of those response strategies. Given all of this, the review highlights some promising directions for future research.

Abstract: Process-oriented design and implementation of concurrent systems has important benefits. However, the inherent complexity of concurrent processes’ communication imposes challenges such as verifying consistency between the process-oriented design and implementation of a concurrent system. To deal with such a challenge, we use Galois connections, Failures and Category Theory to construct a formal framework for designing, implementing, analyzing and verifying consistency of concurrent systems. For the purpose of illustrating the framework, a running concurrent system is designed by Communicating Sequential Processes, implemented by a process-oriented programming language Erasmus.
Role of Biochar Amendment on Soil Carbon Mineralization and Microbial Biomass  [PDF]

Abstract:
To understand the influence of biochar properties (pyrolysis temperature and types) on soil physicochemical properties, we investigated the changes of soil organic carbon mineralization, nutrient contents and microbial biomass after 135 d incubation. Results showed that both corn straw (CB) and rice straw (RB) derived biochars increase the mineralization of organic carbon and nitrogen in the soil, and these biochars pyrolysised at 500?C (CB500, RB500) significantly enhanced the mineralization of soil organic nitrogen. In comparison with control treatment, the application of biochar significantly increased the contents of soil organic carbon, available P and K in soil. Moreover, the activity of soil microbe was enhanced with biochar amendment. Among all treatments, RB500 significantly increased the content of soil microbial biomass carbon (379 ± 9 mg?kg?1) in soil. Our results suggested that the application of biochars to soil improve soil quality, while the biochar type and pyrolysis temperature should be taken into consideration before its application in agro-ecosystem.

Abstract: The development of a concurrent system poses unique challenges, especially those related to correctness and consistency, as such a system usually involves several interactive processes executing simultaneously. To deal with some of these challenges, we resorted to Labeled Event Structures (LES) and category theory as the formal methods to model concurrent systems. Specifically, in this paper, we proposed an idea to define categories and corresponding constructs, such as product and sum, to model events and relationships among events represented by LES. To explain the idea, several examples are developed. Though a mathematical proof, the proposed idea helped to build a correct-by-construction approach for formalizing LES models of concurrent systems.

Abstract: More subtle and explicit QoS control mechanisms are required at the radio access level, even though the simple and scalable Differentiated Services (DiffServ) QoS control model is acceptable for the core of the network. At the radio access level, available resources are severely limited and the degree of traffic aggregation is not significant, thus rendering the DiffServ principles less effective. In this paper we present a suitable hybrid QoS architecture framework to address the problem. At the wireless access end, the local QoS mechanism is designed in the context of IEEE 802.11 WLAN with 802.11e QoS extensions; so streams of those session-based applications are admitted, established according to the traffic profile they require, and guaranteed. As the core in the Admission Control of the hybrid QoS architecture, the Fair Intelligent Congestion Control (FICC) algorithm is applied to provide fairness among traffic aggregates and control congestion at the bottleneck interface between the wireless link and the network core via mechanisms of packet scheduling, buffer management, feedback and adjustments. It manages effectively the overloading scenario by preventing traffic violation from uncontrolled traffic, and providing guarantee to the priority traffic in terms of guaranteed bandwidth allocation and specified delay.
On Exploiting Temporal, Social, and Geographical Relationships for Data Forwarding in Delay Tolerant Networks  [PDF]

Abstract:

Because of unpredictable node mobility and absence of global information in Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), effective data forwarding has become a significant challenge in such network. Currently, most of existing data forwarding mechanisms select nodes with high cumulative contact capability as forwarders. However, for the heterogeneity of the transient node contact patterns, these selection approaches may not be the best relay choices within a short time period. This paper proposes an appropriate data forwarding mechanism, which combines time, location, and social characteristics into one coordinate system, to improve the performance of data forwarding in DTNs. The Temporal-Social Relationship and the Temporal-Geographical Relationship reveal the implied connection information among these three factors. This mechanism is formulated and verified in the experimental studies of realistic DTN traces. The empirical results show that our proposed mechanism can achieve better performance compared to the existing schemes with similar forwarding costs (e.g. end-to-end delay and delivery success ratio).

Abstract:

It is shown that the virtual states and relative momentum of the constituents of the bound states are very important for the cross section of the process e+e-→J/ψ+ηc with the help of the Bethe-Salpeter wave function description of the bound states. The gauge invariance of the cross section is demonstrated. The numerical results can explain the experimental data.
