Abstract: one aimed with this work to study the influence of cotton and peanut cultivars and relative planting times as intercropping, being verified the relationships of competitiveness among the two cultures. the experiment was carried out in miss?o velha, ceará state, brazil, at cotton experimental field of embrapa in the agricultural year of 2002. twenty treatments were tested with 4 repetitions, in a randomized block with 2 x 2 x 4 + 2 + 2 factorial, the factors being two cultivars of cotton (brs 186 - precocious 3 and brs 201), two cultivars of peanut (l7 and br-1), four planting times (0; 7; 14 and 21 days) plus the isolated controls of the two cultivars of cotton and peanut crops. considering the results obtained for rude income, surrender liquid and rates of return, one considered that there was not economical advantage for the producer when the cotton was planted in intercrop with the peanut, since the referring values to the intercrop were smaller than the isolated cultivations.

Abstract: A field study was carried out to assess whether intercropping of three commonly used cultivars of wheat in Iran with different height may increase seed yield. Seed yield three wheat cultivars which differed in were investigated at educational field of Gonbad Agricultural Faculty in 2005-2006 (Iran). The statistical design was factorial 3 plant densities of 300, 350 and 400 seed in m2 with 6 intercropping ratios of Kohdasht, Tajan and Zagros (3 pure stand and 3 50:50 intercropping of Kohdasht, Tajan and Zagros cultivars, respectively) in completely randomized blocks. The results showed that none of the treatments has no significant effect on yield. The results indicated that the highest seed yield was obtained from 50:50 ratios of Tajan-Zagros cultivars in density plant 400 of seed in m2 which had Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) above 1.25 Calculation of LER revealed that seed yield in treatment TZTZTZ was 25% higher than the pure stand. Intercropping ratio showed no significant effect on any of yield components.

Communications and Network (CN) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/cn.2012.44035
Abstract: This paper studies the performance of Traffic Engineering (TE) signal protocols used for load balancing in Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks, namely; Constraint Based Routed Label Distribution Protocol LDP (CR-LDP) and Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP). Furthermore, the performance of an MPLS network uses these TE signal protocols is compared to that of a conventional Internet Protocol (IP) network. Different applications including voice, video, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and Hyperlink Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) are used for the performance evaluation. Simulation results show superior performance of the MPLS network with CR-LDP TE signal protocol in all tested applications.
Review of some methods of calculating intercrop efficiencies with particular reference to the estimates of intercrop benefits in wheat/faba bean system.

Abstract: Intercropping (growing two or more crops together simultaneously) is increasing being adopted worldwide, probably because there have been suggestions that the system is beneficial in terms of land use efficiency compared to sole cropping. There are several indices for estimating intercrop performance compared to the component sole crops, but as reviewed in this paper, the land equivalent ratio (LER) is the most widely adopted. Yet the LER is constrained because it is not able to account for the relative duration each component in the intercrop spent in the field may have had on intercropping performance. Area time equivalency ratio (ATER) appears to have solved this problem well. However, neither ATER nor LER can account for the physiological or physical basis for the intercropping performance. The crop performance ratio (CPR) is more appropriate in this regard, even though CPR ‘adjusted for time’, (CPRT) is more efficient where the component crops differ in growth duration. In addition, particularly for intercrops with commercial value, there may be a need to compute a monetary advantage (MA) for intercropping. This paper concludes that in addition to the LER, for certain intercrops such as wheat/faba bean system that has not been widely adopted, there may be a need to use other indices such as ATER, CPR, CPRT and MA as may be applicable in order to understand more fully the nature of intercrop benefits that may exist. Indeed such type of information may help to attract potential growers.

Abstract: Productivity of maize (Zea mays L.) and climbing bean (Phaseolus vulgars L.) intercropping system is affected by fertility status of the soil and population density of component crops. A trial was conducted in 2002 and 2003 cropping season to investigate the effects of inorganic and organic fertilisers and population density on productivity of maize-climbing bean intercropping system. The experiment was laid out as 2x2x2x2 factorial arrangement with two sole cropping in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Nitrogen and population density significantly increased grain yield of climbing bean. FYM significantly affected LER of intercropping system. Grain yield of component crops from intercropping were significantly higher than the monocultures. Yield of intercropping were up to 27 and 403% higher for maize and climbing bean than the yield achieved by growing the crops separately. Partial land equivalent ratio of maize and climbing bean ranged between 0.94 to 1.19 and 0.30 to 0.90, respectively. Higher partial LER of maize indicated the superiority of maize on climbing bean in intercropping. Higher land equivalent ratio was recorded from intercropping than sole planting. Intercropping produced 32 to 98% more yield per unit land area than the component monocultures. Intercropping maize-climbing bean is a viable agronomic practice to produce higher yield from a unit of land.

Abstract: grain yield and efficiency of a maize-pigeon pea intercropping system were compared in an additive experiment with 62.500 plants/ha sole cropped maize (ceniap pb8), 50.000 plants/ha sole cropped pigeonpea (icpl 87119) and 112.500 plants/ha in intercropping plots. two fertilization levels were applied. maize was planted 20 days after pigeonpea. grain yields of maize were 6938 and 7665 kg/ha in not fertilized and fertilized monoculture plots, and 7030 and 7507 kg/ha in not fertilized and fertilized intercropped plots, respectively. no statistical differences were found in pigeonpea, with grain yields of 3437 and 3464 kg/ha in not fertilized and fertilized sole cropped plots, and 3064 and 3277 kg/ha in not fertilized and fertilized intercropped plots. efficiency indexes land equivalent ratio (ler), area-time equivalency ratio (ater) and area-harvest equivalency ratio (aher) showed advantages of intercropping in relation to monocultures.
