Albeck,María Ester; Ruiz,Marta S.;
Cuadernos de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Universidad Nacional de Jujuy , 2003,
Abstract: a revisión of the archaeological ethnohistoric and colonial information of the peoples that inhabite at jujuy puna region or high plateau is carried out. corresponding evidences of the prehispanic societies are presented, these societies dwelt in jujuy high plateau region, we make special reference to the settlement patterns, goods and chattels findings, funerary and parietal art. in this context, the organization and the archaeological site are discussed as well as the outstanding constructive techniques. a revision of the information provided by different researchers treating an ethnic assignment of the ancient inhabitans is carried out, in spite of the littleethnohistoric information of jujuy puna region available. different stances are contrasted with the data obtained from archaeology, and they are collated with the colonial documents of the same sector. the information obtained let us formulate a hypothesis a more precise territorial allocation for the different ethnic groups in jujuy puna region before the coming of the european people. afterwards, this kind of use and control of this territory was subject to great changes as a consequence of the colonial administration, even though part an important of this territory went on being occupied by their ancient prehispanic owners.

Montenegro,Mónica; Ruiz,Marta;
Cuadernos de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Universidad Nacional de Jujuy , 2007,
Abstract: this work sets out to accede to the knowledge of the landscape of the puna de jujuy's northern sector during the desarrollos regionales' period, through the iconographyc's analysis of the objects of the hallucinogenic complex. understanding the archaeological register, like the socio-cultural product of past towns, framed in a landscape that contains and means it, the study of the material culture was made from the proposals of the archaeology of the landscape. we worked on the transit concept, examining the relation which the archaeological objects keep with the movement, that somehow it reflects an interrelation with its immediate surroundings. it was come to the analysis of the materials, from the iconography's method and from a semiotic's perspective; later, the materials were related to their regional surroundings: sites of the quebrada de humahuaca and the north of chile. an interesting iconographyc's correlation was observed, that put in evidence the capacity which certain images had to journey puna and to move between both slopes of the andes; this allowed to bring data to the discussion on the movement of material goods and ideas, during the desarrollos regionales' period.

Solá,Patricia;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2011,
Abstract: in the susques area, various special potsherds were recovered from five archaeological sites. this ceramic looks like non local production, possibly manufactured very far from susques, such as quebrada de humahuaca, the yavi region and the peruvian-bolivian altiplano. these fragments have an exotic connotation in the susques sites and were considered as a guide of ceramic movement in this part of northwestern argentina. this material was found together with utilitarian ceramic of domestic production manufactured by local potters, who lived in small groups with a pastoral-hunter economic system from ca. 1100 ad to 1800 ad. the exotic potsherds in susques could show some level of interaction between the regional groups and their analysis could also suggest the distances implicated in this pottery distribution. the previous information about the ceramic production sequences, from some of the involved regions, is limited; so this makes it difficult to establish secure matches with the identified ceramic groups. the observations were carried out by stereomicroscope and polarizing microscope, analysis supported by an exhaustive bibliographic review.
Solá,Patricia; Morales,Marcelo R.;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2007,
Abstract: this note describes the results of biological (mainly diatoms' content) and petrographical analyses of an aryballus neck sherd from a site situated in the vicinity of susques, jujuy province, argentina puna. the rare diatom species (cyclostephanos andinus) found in this sherd suggests that the source of the clays or water used to manufacture the piece was the littoral area of a well developed, high altitude water system. these results suggest a probable foreign origin for the piece, possibly the south-central andean highlands.
Pérez Pieroni,María Josefina;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2012,
Abstract: this paper summarizes the first results of macroscopic and submacroscopic analyses of ceramic materials of four completely excavated structures and surface collection in their immediate vicinity from río herrana, puna of jujuy. radiocarbon dates place these contexts in the late period. the ceramic materials were analyzed from a technological perspective, taking into account macroscopic attributes related to manufacture sequence and other attributes of the pastes. it was possible to identify open and closed morphologies, coiling technique, and a diversity of surface finishes. pastes were classified into seven preliminary groups. the analyzed materials are similar to the pottery described in other areas of the puna of jujuy, such as casabindo and yavi. this article represents an initial contribution both to the study of this kind of material in an area archaeologically little known and to the understanding of ceramic manufacture in the puna, for which there are few technological studies in spite of the relevance they have in the rest of northwest argentina.
Alfaro,Emma Laura; Albeck,María Ester; Dipierri,José Edgardo;
Andes , 2005,
Abstract: this paper presents data collected from population records, starting from the analysis of some specific surnames that are assumed to belong to the casabindo, a group that lived in the jujuy's puna, argentina. the casabindo and their descendants are traced back along four centuries from the analysis of the transformations of this group's surnames. this study shows the population dynamics that affected the region between the seventeenth and the twentieth century. the great length of time analysed permits to evaluate the long-term processes occurred to the casabindo in the period studied.

PRIMEROS ESTUDIOS SOBRE MANUFACTURA CERáMICA DE CONTEXTOS COLONIALES DEL SUR DE POZUELOS (PUNA DE JUJUY, ARGENTINA)
Angiorama Carlos,Pérez Pieroni, María Josefina
Revista de Arqueología Histórica Argentina y Latinoamericana , 2012,
Abstract: The results of the first studies on ceramic materials from three colonial contexts of south Pozuelos are presented here. These studies were undertaken from a technological perspective. Macroscopic and sub macroscopic observations on attributes related to the production sequence were made, including pastes attributes, morphology and surface characteristics. The results, when compared to previous analysis of prehispanic materials,allowed identifying several continuities in the production of prehispanic and colonial pottery, as well as some discontinuities. The prevalence of the continuities in the analyzed pottery allows stating that the material culture from the studied colonial contexts had not gone through great changes since prehispanic times.
Un universo de formas, colores y pinturas: Caracterización del estilo alfarero yavi de la puna nororiental de Jujuy A Universe Of Form, Color And Paintings: A Characterization Of The Yavi Pottery Style From The Eastern Puna Of Jujuy, Argentina
In this paper the Yavi ceramic style from the Northeastern Puna of Jujuy, Argentina, is systematized and analyzed. The goal is to offer a characterization of the morphological, chromatic, and pictographic variation that this style presents. The study is based on the analysis of over two hundred whole vessels that belong to this style. These are distributed across various museums and collections in different parts of Argentina. The study aims to establish which attributes should be included to classify a vessel as Yavi and how these are combined in order to define the perceptive unity that characterizes the style.
