THE INTEGRATION OF ACTUAL AND VIRTUAL LEARNING SPACES IN RURALSCHOOLS
Ken Stevens
International Journal of New Computer Architectures and their Applications , 2012,
Abstract: The application of internetbased technologies, particularly the integration of actual and virtual learning spaces, has enabled networks to be established for the development of small schools located beyond major centres of population in ways that have expanded their learning capacities and, potentially, sustained the communities that host them. The creation of internet-based networks has, furthermore, enabled knowledge to be mobilized between schools and their communities, thereby promoting new eliving possibilities.
Appropriation and Educational Uses of Mobile Phones by Students and Teachers at a Public University in Mexico  [PDF]
Javier Organista-Sandoval, Arturo Serrano-Santoyo
Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.512119
Abstract:

This article presents a study on appropriation and educational uses of cell phones. For the research, a random sample of 954 students and 246 teachers was selected, representing respectively 12% and 24% of the total population in two facilities of UABC in Ensenada, Mexico. Our survey showed that 97% of teachers or students have some kind of cell phone or smartphone. However, we observed that one of every four interactions with the mobile device had a concrete educational purpose. We also found that in general the educational use of the cell phone is mainly aimed to establish communication between the students and to access information via Internet. However, in spite of its limitations, our results show that the cell phone is a technological tool with great pedagogical potential. We suggest that institutional policies are necessary in order to tap that the cell phone potential to adequately support the teaching-learning process.

The African Single Currency: Putting in Place the Missing Link for a Complete Regional Integration Scheme in Africa  [PDF]
Ibrahima Thione Diop
Modern Economy (ME) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/me.2015.610103
Abstract: Facing the threat of globalization, Africa is more than ever forced to lift as soon as possible the factors blocking the integration process which is too long deadlocked. Indeed, Africa remains on the margins of world trade, FDI flows and the ICT revolution, while suffering the brunt of the repercussions of globalization, including the food crisis. This article is a contribution to the issue of economic integration of African countries through the introduction of a single currency. However, the latter seems to be a decisive contribution to permanently overcome the issue of borders but also the divisions in terms of language differences. The main conclusion from this research is that we need to overcome the many constraints faced by the advent of the single currency, which are essentially institutional, but also economic.
Mathematical Modeling from Metacognitive Perspective Theory: A Review on STEM Integration Practices  [PDF]
Mohd Razip Bajuri, Siti Mistima Maat, Lilia Halim
Creative Education (CE) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2018.914161
Abstract: This study presents to identify mathematical modeling is the least elements focusing on current STEM integration practices. Through this study, a review of the existing practice of STEM integration curriculums, models, modules, and programmes was undertaken to confirm the issue. The database reviewed to confirm this issue is from Social Sciences Citation Index with keyword “Mathematical Modeling,” “STEM curriculum,” “STEM model,” “STEM module” and “STEM program.” As a result, these studies confirmed that mathematical modeling activities were the least focusing on existing STEM integration practices and the theory of metacognation and the theory of sosial interactiondevelopment could promote these abilities.
Modelo de integración curricular para la educación básica en Venezuela
Arraez,Morella;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2008,
Abstract: the purpose of this research was to create a curricular integration model that promotes active, free, constructive and responsible participation of the people involved in the educational process and in all the activities that help to improve the life standards in the educational social context. the study is based on the theory of action developed by argyris and sch?n and the communication theory developed by habermas. a qualitative methodology was applied and oriented towards a research-action-participant model. the study was developed in eight steps: i) archival analysis; ii) field study; iii) diagnosis; iv) analysis; v) action plan; vi) design of the school-community integration model; vii) implementation; and, viii) evaluation. the results demonstrated that: a) participation was isolated and limited to delivering report cards and other activities; b) the institution lacked projects with objectives actively incorporating the community; c) there where communicative restrictions that hindered the corporate integrative process, and d) the commitment to community integration was individually assumed by each of the representatives and their particular function, which in return weakened the process. based on this information a curricular integration model was designed which was implemented by the participants and was evaluated to assess the changes produced.

International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences , 1987, DOI: 10.1155/s0161171287000802
Abstract: The object of this paper is to develop a very direct theory of the Lebesgue integral that is easily accessible to any audience familiar with the Riemann integral.
The European Regional Integration in the IR Literature:A Review of Scholarly Support and Opposition  [PDF]
Agnes Katalin Koos
Open Journal of Philosophy (OJPP) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojpp.2011.12015
Abstract: Most of what has been written on the ECSC/ EEC/ EC/ EU, has not been done by international relations (IR) theorists, but by comparativists, sociologists, historians, anthropologists, legal scholars, and many others. These writings are in general classified as intergovernmentalist, federalist, and supranationalist (functionalist and neo- functionalist) in most accounts of the theoretical perspectives on the EU (Webb 1983, Rosamond 2000). Wiener and Diez 2004 add a rational choice institutional category, as well, as they think that the policy analysis within the polity developed into an autonomous brand of literature. It is only Andrew Hurrell in his chapter in Fawcett and Hurrell 1995, who makes an attempt to present the EU, as a regional integration, from the point of view of diverse IR approaches. Drawing on his classification scheme, I conduct an inquiry of the IR theories about European unification from the point of view of whether they allow for the iteration of the European experience in other parts of the world or not. The basic conclusion is that almost all IR work on Europe falls in the inter- governmentalist category, which tends to conceptualize the European Union as representing an n of 1. (Inter- governmentalism is the choice of realism and neo-realism, English School, and neoliberal institutionalism.) Within the liberal IR paradigm, there is a tension between law-focused and security-focused approaches, on the one hand, and economic approaches, on the other. The first believe in the possibility of multiple integrations, while the latter does not think that they are desirable. Critical theories are also hindered by divergent normative commitments, though the class-based theorizing is very clear about pursuing the social control of markets.

International Journal of Clinical Medicine (IJCM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ijcm.2013.410077
Abstract:

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is an important causative agent of cervical carcinoma and some malignant cutaneous tumors. The integration of HPV DNA into the host genome is one of the most important risk factors for malignant transformation. Here, we report the case of a 53-year-old man with multiple, black-brown genital macules and nodules. Histological findings resembled those for Bowen’s disease, and we made a diagnosis of bowenoid papulosis. This condition is generally benign, but invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising from bowenoid papulosis has been previously reported. Therefore, we took biopsy specimens from 10 lesions and tested them for the presence of HPV DNA. DNA sequencing identified HPV type 16 (HPV-16) DNA in all samples. Next, we excised 4 different relatively large lesions and performed an amplification of papillomavirus oncogene transcripts (APOT) assay. This assay showed that all samples had only episome-derived viral transcripts, indicating no integration of HPV DNA into the host genome. We have followed this case for 3 years, and no progression to Bowen’s disease or SCC has so far been observed. We conclude that the APOT assay is a feasible method for evaluating the malignant potential of bowenoid papulosis.
