Restoring Washed Out Bridges so ELearners Arrive at Online Course Destinations Successfully  [PDF]
Ruth Gannon Cook
Creative Education (CE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2012.34083
Abstract: This study researched the impact of strategic navigation improvements in an online course selected for the study over one quarter (12 weeks) at a large Midwestern private university. The primary purpose of the study was to see if navigation enhancements and specific graphic enhancements (semiotic tools) in the online course selected for the study could make it easier for adult students to learn new course materials. The study also sought to see if these factors could contribute to increased positive learning experiences and to see whether there might be a higher percentage of completion rates in this enhanced online course than in other online courses at the university. While not generalizable, the findings could provide inferences about which factors could positively influence adult learning in online courses and contribute to increased course completion rates; the study could also provide recommendations on graphic enhancements and online course navigation that positively influence student learning in online courses.

Psicologia & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-71822007000500021
Abstract: this paper presents some thoughts on sílvia lanes graphic discourse analysis, discussing the theoretical bases and the technique of content investigation, processes and mediations present in the constitution of human consciousness. for this, we present some reflections on its epistemological, theoretical and methodological fundamentals from sílvia lane's publications, seminars and advisory sessions, highlighting lanean psychological theory and social-historical psychological theory, as well as demonstrating how to proceed in using the technique.

Abstract: the aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a standardized protocol for management of labor at our hospital, including regional anesthesia, early rupture of membranes, and oxytocin, on the rate of cervical dilatation during the active phase of labor by calculating a mean partogram. it was retrospectively analyzed partograms of cervical dilatation in 137 consecutive nulliparous women in spontaneous labor at term during 2003. the mean duration of the active phase of labour was approximately 6 hour and the mean cervical rate dilatation was 1 cm/h, being the maximum mean rate between 6 to 9 cm (1.4 cm/h). these results show that this standardized protocol of management of labour appears to be associated with an increased duration of the active phase of labor and reduced second stage of it, although with higher rate of instrumental delivery
Graphic Notation in Music Therapy: A Discussion of What to Notate in Graphic Notation and How
Carl Bergstr?m-Nielsen
Approaches : Music Therapy & Special Music Education , 2009,
Abstract: This article presents graphic notations of music and related forms of communication in music therapy contexts, created by different authors and practitioners. Their purposes, objects of description, and the elements of graphic language are reflected upon in a comparative discussion. From that it becomes clear that the aspect of overview is a fundamental one, facilitating perception of complex data. This also makes possible to memorise complex data, extending the natural limits of human memory. Discovering hidden aspects in the clinical data, as well as sharing and communicating these aspects are also important concerns. Among the authors discussed, there is a large variety both in goals and methods. Keywords are proposed to circumscribe moments of possible interest connected to graphic notations. I suggest that the discipline of graphic notation can be useful for the grounding of music therapy presentation and research in empirical, clinical-musical reality, and welcome further discussion and explorative work.

Abstract:

The influence of the degree of wastewater coagulation-flocculation and supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) methodsisconsidered. The regularities of changes in the composition of the purity of the reagents used and the parameters of SCWO are established. Based on the results of chromatographic analysis of the effluent after washing the mass rape, it is found that the achievement of the required parameters is achieved by treatment with a combination of coagulation-flocculation method and supercritical water oxidation (SCWO). The necessity of combining techniques is insufficient oxidation in SCWO lignin conducted at T = 400oC and P = 25 MPa, T = 500oC and P = 30 MPa. Effluent treatment of process of styrene and propylene oxide“Nizhnekamskneftekhim”conducted by the SCWO, using an oxidant (H2O2), and without an oxidant showed the possibility of cleaning without the use of an oxidizing agent in the process parameters T = 500oC, P = 30 MPa.

Examining large-scale time-use files through graphic representation
William Michelson,David Crouse
Electronic International Journal of Time Use Research , 2004,
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the utility of graphic means to add to the comprehension of time-use analysis. The paper traces the development of several graphic approaches, from the logic of plotting a single case in multidimensional space to several ways of examining time-use dynamics graphically without limitations on sample size. It draws on pilot studies from the FAMITEL researchproject on telecommuting and extends to Statistics Canada’s General Social Survey in 1998 with time-use data (GSS12). The examples of graphic development focus on aspects of the daily lives of teleworkers, to illustrate in this context how graphic representation can illuminate much-discussed differences between the complex pattern of daily life characterizing of these workers in comparison to conventional workers, regardless of the size of samples and subsamples. The graphic techniques discussed advance understanding of these phenomena by presenting visual evidence of differential patterns reflecting the interrelations between the several components of time-use as well as reflecting the different times in the day in which phenomena occur, within and between analytic subgroups. As in many other analyses, gender can be literally seen in the graphics as an important differentiating factor, even within occupationalsituations.

Universitas Psychologica , 2010,
Abstract: the aim of this paper is to assess the explanatory power of graphic representation by visualization of social networks. we analyze outcomes generated by the software tool ucinet and netdraw, in order to explain networks outcomes using principles for effective interpretation of graphs. the internal characteristics of the major "jihadist" groups formed in spain, are taken into consideration/account for analysis in the present paper. our study examines the relevance of social interaction during "jihadist" militancy and the characteristics and implications of structure within a network.

The information representation techniques, as well as the analysis of coauthorship and multidimensional scaling (MDS), allow to obtain a clear image of the functioning of a particular reality by means of the graphic analysis of these relations. The results of the application of these techniques to Acimed journal between 2005 and 2006 are exposed aimed at knowing the behavior of the relations between the authors and their institutions.

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of a standardized protocol for management of labor at our Hospital, including regional anesthesia, early rupture of membranes, and oxytocin, on the rate of cervical dilatation during the active phase of labor by calculating a mean partogram.
