The Application of Language Awareness in College English Writing Teaching  [PDF]

Abstract: Language awareness refers to the understanding of language forms and functions, which is gradually formed by learners in the process of internalizing specific language knowledge. It is a mental activity that is not only abstract but also complex. English writing examines students’ comprehensive application of English knowledge, and is an indispensable part of English learning. The deficiency of students’ English writing part can be attributed to their lack of corresponding language awareness. This paper first expresses the importance of language awareness in English writing teaching, and then analyzes the main factors that influence the cultivation of college English language awareness, and finally puts forward the new model of college English writing teaching under the drive of language awareness.

The teaching strategy plays an important part in the effectiveness of the college English teaching. After comparing the current college English teaching strategies in China, this paper attempts to analyze the process teaching strategies and the cognitive teaching strategies of the novice, the proficient and the expert college English teachers at different teaching stages of teaching and proposes the optimizing path of the teaching strategies. This helps make up for the lack of research of enhancing the college English teaching strategies inChina.

Abstract: With the development of our economy, the improvement of the market economy system, the talent competition and the rapid development of global economic integration, the society puts forward higher requirements for university students’ quality. All walks of life are urgent to need a large number of advanced technical talents with a certain level of English. English has become an important tool to participate in international communication and competition. Therefore, it is required to improve the ability of Public English Teaching in order to meet the needs of the development of market economy. Therefore, the use of effective teaching methods and the improvement of the students’ English learning effect are very important. However, how to effectively implement public English Teaching in college and how to improve college students’ English proficiency through teaching have become an urgent problem to be solved. Abstract: Inspired by the Input and Affective Hypothesis by Krashen, Interaction hypothesis by Long and Comprehensible Output hypothesis by Swain and absorbing the quintessence of Littlewood’s teaching sequences principle and Adair-Hauck & Cumo-Johanssen’s “top-down” language instruction principle, the paper relates to the reality of college English teaching in China and presents a model of poetry teaching in CE classes. This model combines organically input and output, including receptive and productive phases, namely, activate, study practice, study focus, study focus, study practice, activate. During the whole process of teaching, the focus is gradually shifting from meaning to form, and then form to meaning. Interaction happens between the teacher and students, students and students. Activities include listening, speaking, reading, writing, translating and discussing are scientifically and systematically arranged and thus make the input and output well-connected and mutually promoting. The learning style may develop from teacher-guided learning to students’ autonomous learning.
A Discussion on Developing Students’ Communicative Competence in College English Teaching in China

Abstract: With the spread and development of English around the world and its increased use in China, research about improved methods to develop college students’ English level has become of great importance. This has promoted changes in both the teaching and learning process. This paper analyzes the necessity and feasibility of developing students’ communicative competence in College English Teaching (CET) and also discusses the advantages and challenges of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) for CET. A questionnaire is used to determine students’ understanding of the term of communicative competence, as well as to discover their opinions about teaching and learning within the framework of fostering their communicative skills. As it seems an appropriate time to implement communicative teaching approach in Chinese universities, this paper also raises the issue of future reform based on current CET in China.

Abstract: The rapid development of science and technology has created new condition for the teaching methods of higher English education, which has greatly enriched the English teaching resources and has promoted the renovation of English teaching methods. As a second to none common language in the world, English has always been playing an important role in international communication, and has been valued highly in the educational circles. Compared with previous English teaching, modern college English teaching has the characteristics of convenient and efficient and is easily to be accepted by students. Considering the diversity and comprehensiveness of college English, it is necessary to divide it into such secondary subjects as vocabulary, grammar and reading, in order to help students to develop learning interest in English in daily life, and to achieve the purpose of reducing students’ burden. This paper discusses the current application situation and problems of multimedia teaching in college English vocabulary teaching and the countermeasures with emphasis, hoping to provide beneficial views for the research and practice of innovative classroom teaching methods.

Abstract: The presentation mode of college English class is not immutable, but it shall realize its unique development pattern under the background of modern science and technology innovation. Considering the complexity of college English itself and many secondary courses, so the college English syllabus particularly emphasizes students’ autonomous learning interest and ability in the daily learning. As a result, the experts and scholars within education academic circle both at home and abroad create the teaching mode of “flipped classroom” after long-term research and practice. Although shortcomings still exist in this new teaching model, it will be improved in the development in the future (Bergmann & Sams, 2012). This paper will analyze briefly from the perspectives of current application situation, problems existed and reflections of “flipped classroom” in college English teaching, hoping to provide theoretical support and practical guidance for Chinese colleges to implement “flipped classroom” practice.
