Gobbi, Beatriz Christo;Cunha, Elcemir Pa?o;Brito, Mozar José de;Senger, Igor;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512005000100004
Abstract: this paper presents a theoretical reflection on the political dimension of the networks. it tried to analyze this format organization, privileging the political dimension of the relationships inter-organizational based on some concepts formulated by sociologist pierre bourdieu. the theoretical evidences revealed that such perspective can offer an alternative understanding to the concepts which don't put the idea about networks in political terms, considering cooperation and trust as driving forces which explains entirely the connections among the organizations. considering the networks as a social field, this article enlarges the idea on governance. it takes into consideration not only the structural and objective aspects, but also emphasizes the subjective dimension that permeates the relations among the agents.
Same formula, different figures: Change and persistence in class inequalities
Atkinson,Will;
Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas , 2010,
Abstract: many contemporary social theorists have argued that the social changes of the last few decades have shattered the hold of class over life histories, identities and politics and put in its place reflexive choice and individualism. this paper presents a summary of a recently completed research project in the uk designed to put these claims to the test. starting out from a “phenomeno-bourdieusian” model of class and deploying life history interviews it reveals not the decline of class in advanced capitalism, but its reinvention. new practices and pathways have emerged, but they represent only the shifting substance of class - the underlying structure of relational difference that defines class and produces different outcomes remains as patent as ever.
Introduction. Post-Mao, Post-Bourdieu: Class Culture in Contemporary China
Stephanie Hemelryk Donald,Yi Zheng
PORTAL : Journal of Multidisciplinary International Studies , 2010,
Abstract: This special issue of Portal Journal of Multidisciplinary International Studies explores the relationship between taste, choice and social stratification in contemporary China. It is premised on the observation that the past thirty years of accelerated Reform policies have initiated a system of authoritarian capitalism, which fosters a network of social values, focussed on opportunity and struggle figured through financial achievement and consumption, and given affective meaning through nationalism. Not all Chinese enjoy the full gamut of these experiences, although most partake in struggle in some form. Opportunity arises mainly from the cultural capital, financial and social position of one’s parents, and, to some degree, from innate talent and hard work, an urban upbringing, and national provisions for educational advantage. Pre-existing forms of influence and power—local networks, Party membership, sufficient funds for education—are the strongest determinants of sustained success. In some cases, the opportunity for wealth creation has allowed some social mobility for entrepreneurial minds, whilst also re-establishing privilege amongst those whose status was already high through long term political or intellectual activity.

Die Macht des Bürgertums im 19. Jahrhundert – Auswirkungen des bürgerlichen Wertesystems auf die Gesellschaft
Katharina Thielen
Skriptum : Studentische Onlinezeitschrift für Geschichte und Geschichtsdidaktik , 2011,
Abstract: Katharina Thielen highlights the structures of the 19th century societey. While carrying out her research she maintains a socio-historical perspective and furthermore focuses on the so-called social class of the 'Bürgertum' (bourgeoisie). As a new factor of power within the German Empire this diverse social group, consisting of civil servants, scholars, freelancers and merchants, had a decisive influence on the structural developments and social rearrangement of the contemporary time. A basic element in this process is represented through the genuine social norms and values of the bourgeoisie. These values expressed an universal validity. However, in the social realitiy these values could often not be realized. As a consequence, the concrete behaviour of members of the bourgeoisie diverted quite often from those given principles and norms of behaviour. The reasons for this ambivalence as well as the question wether the norms and values were at least in part enforced and live on in society to the present day are reviewed via the theories of Pierre Bourdieu. The habitus-concept of Bourdieu serves as the foundation of analysis of the culture of the bourgeoisie. The culture as such worked in a twofold way; excluding and unifying at the same time and therefore standing in harsh contrast to the actual values and norms. The value of education will serve as an example while showing the ambivalence of this concept. The approach to the new and universal human education“ was significantly determined by the capital. Nevertheless, exactly this paradoxon was crucial when it came to achieving a position of power, which allowed the burgeoisie, as a social class, to realize its genuine social values and norms in society.
Promises and limits of discourse ethics in communicative interactions
Luis Mauro Sá Martino,?ngela Cristina Salgueiro Marques
Estudos em Comunica??o , 2011,
Abstract: Communication ethics is concerned with the ways in which intersubjective relationships are constructed. It highlights the tensions among determinations that rule intersubjective contacts and the constant reformulation of meaning frames and forms of language that de ne both interlocution and its context. This text outlines the similarities and differences between two con icting approaches concerning the use of everyday language as a particularly privileged way of social interaction. We shall rst consider the Habermasian notion of an ideal situationof communication, then shifting to the problems concerning the power and interests encapsulated in any communicative exchange, following the perspective of Bourdieu. It is worth mentioning that an ethics of com- munication that intends to evaluate the role played by interests and language in the practical relationship between subjects should approach conditions under which, through a discursive interaction in the public scope, individuals could reach an understanding regarding their interests and needs.
The Effect of Habitus and Capitals on Adoption Behavior of E-Commerce Information System: An Investigation of Digital Immigrants  [PDF]
Huifen Wang, Junping Wang
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2017.54015
Abstract: With the rapid development of e-commerce, more and more digital immigrants actively participate in online shopping. However, some may be more skilled in using e-commerce information system (e-commerce IS), while others still meet some barriers doing so. Thus, it is interesting to investigate the e-commerce IS adoption behavior of digital immigrants. To understand the critical resources that contribute to the different behaviors between the digital immigrants, we attempt to operationalize the capital perspective, drew on Bourdieu’s practice theory and propose a research model to investigate: 1) the forms of capital and habitus for using e-commerce IS; 2) what is the relationship between digital immigrant’s capital, habitus and e-commerce IS adoption behavior. Based on the data collected from 334 digital immigrants in China, we empirically test the proposed model. To ensure the validity and reliability of the instrument, factor analysis and reliability test were conducted. The results of multiple regression analysis demonstrate the significant effects of habitus and capitals on digital immigrants’ e-commerce IS adoption, especially the intrinsic motivation and propensity to informatization dimension of habitus, the social influence and social support dimension of social capital. Implications of the findings as well as limitations of the study and directions for future research are also discussed.

Virgininia Dube-Mawerewere
Advances in Applied Sociology (AASoci) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/aasoci.2017.77016
Abstract: This article discusses the example of how Pierre Bourdieu and Kathy Charmaz’s concepts were applied in a doctoral research study. Thirty two participants in this article were an equivalent of a social group. The study included three main participant systems of care: the medical/health, the judiciary and the prison systems. This discussion highlights how Bourdieu illuminated the exploration of mental health service functional inequalities within these systems in Zimbabwe.
