Tovar-Cuevas,Luis Miguel; Arrivillaga-Quintero,Marcela;
Revista Gerencia y Políticas de Salud , 2011,
Abstract: this study aimed to determine the association between the prevalence of hiv/aids, according to self-report for the period 2000-2005 and some structural determinants in the municipalities of the department of valle del cauca, colombia. an observational, descriptive and ecological study was conducted. the data were taken from the census of population (2005) conducted by the national administrative statistics department (dane). variables related to social structural determinants were the quality of housing, sanitary infrastructure, the minimum level of human capital and access to health care services. evidence statistically significant (p=1%, p=5%) of the association between these determinants and the prevalence of hiv in nine of 21 municipalities studied was found. the structural determination of hiv/aids deserves additional analysis that should be conducted from the perspective of economic and social rights of people affected by the virus, all in guaranteeing the right to health.
El "yipao", el atrio y la sábana: medios, modos y espacios alternativos de la comunicación en el Valle del Cauca. Una experiencia desde la salud
VALENCIA GIRALDO,VICTOR HUGO;
Signo y Pensamiento , 2009,
Abstract: it is never easy to speak about the best ways to promote health in a multicultural geographic space such as the colombian department of valle del cauca, because it is almost inevitable to resort to the prescribed "formulae" established by the central order to satisfy the expectations of the policy makers and budgetary authorities. in this article we outline an alternative way to systematize community experiences related to information, education, and communication, as well as highlighting the importance of including participatory proposals and methodologies in order to recover local knowledge and wisdom to create wider and more sustainable strategies different to those established by conventional media campaigns which are almost always proposed from academic and disciplinary scenarios which dodge the rich and varied field of communications

Universitas Psychologica , 2009,
Abstract: the aim of this work was to analyze the current hiv/aids situation in spain according to spanish regions. epidemiological hiv and aids spanish data are analyzed and adjusted by population rates. prevalence indexes and distribution by gender, age and way of transmission in the spanish regions are compared. in addition, it is paid special attention to immigrant population as people who can take hiv/aids risk behaviors. results revealed that the spanish regions with the highest prevalence rates are madrid, basque country, balearic islands and catalonia. according to accumulate data since 1981 in spain, aids percentage in males is 80.02% of the total of infected people. respect to age, the highest percentage of people who live with aids takes place in persons who are between 30 and 34 years old. despite of the decrease of aids cases in spain since the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapies (haart), aids epidemic need more attention, specifically to some groups in higher risk situation, like immigrants.
Medición de pobreza a partir de la percepción de los individuos: Colombia y el Valle del Cauca
Aguado-Quintero, Luis Fernando;Osorio-Mejía, Ana María;Ahumada-Castro, Jaime Rodrigo;Riascos-Correa, Gloria Isabel;
Papeles de población , 2010,
Abstract: a colombian household is considered poor when its income in colombian pesos (cop) is lower than 1 142 097; while in valle del cauca, this figure is 872 545 cop. the difference between the value of the subjective line for the national average and for valle del cauca suggests that multiple issues influence the perception of poverty. the empirical literature associates them with the regional economic characteristics and the different supplies of human and social capital. the subjective measurements of poverty complement the objective measurements (generally based on income) and jointly constitute the bases for a better comprehension of poverty and the design of effective politics to overeome it.

Una mirada a la situación de la ni?ez en el Valle del Cauca
Osorio,Ana María; Aguado,Luis Fernando;
Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Ni?ez y Juventud , 2010,
Abstract: in this document we identify a set of indicators at departmental and municipal level (as far as available information permits) with a perspective on childhood. these indicators permit the analysis of the well-being of children and the compliance with their rights in different areas: health, education, nutrition, decent dwelling, and the exposure to early risks such as child labor and maternity. the construction of indicators at municipal level which reflect well-being and/or compliance with children's rights offers an opportunity to obtain a complete picture of the situation regarding childhood in one department, and constitutes an extremely important tool in the design of public policy and the focus on spending. the indicators for valle del cauca presented here reflect geographical inequalities in the provision of, and access to, basic social facilities; here there is evidence of great disparity among towns compared with the departmental average and the city of cali. the greatest differences are concentrated in some towns in the north of valle and buenaventura. all of this lays down important challenges in public policy, and invites debate, analysis and of the visualization of the living conditions of children in valle del cauca.
DESCRIPCIóN SOCIOAMBIENTAL DEL SUELO EN EL VALLE GEOGRáFICO DEL RíO CAUCA: EL CASO DE LA AGROINDUSTRIA AZUCARERA
CORTES ORTIZ,BRIGETTE TARYN;
Luna Azul , 2010,
Abstract: the paper aims to describe how the ground in the valle del cauca has been socially and environmentally appropriate for the sugar agribusiness model from the early twentieth century to the present. in this sense, the research makes a journey from farm economy entered into crisis in the nineteenth century in what is now the valle del cauca to an agribusiness model increasingly complex as the cluster of sugar. the core of the document deals with the historical-spatial description of the sugar agribusiness development, which has exerted strong pressure on natural resources which mainly has to do with the ground, which makes evident the different socio-environmental impacts are defining the use and ownership of this resource in the valle del cauca. the methodology used was taken from a draft environmental assessment called "pressure/condition/response", which was the center for registration and organization of the information collected from which emerged different qualitative and quantitative indicators, which joined the documentary work different from institutional documents produced by asoca?a and cenica?a. at the same time, the aim is to place this issue in the discussion of the social sciences, discussing the notions of development and environment, according to the contributions of the intellectual output of the economic commission for latin america (called by sunkel, 1981), donald worster (called by castro, 1995) anthony giddens (2000) and ulrich beck (1997, 1998a, 1998b).

Cambios en fracciones de fósforo en Inceptisoles y Mollisoles por aplicaciones de vinaza y/o cloruro de potasio
ángel S,Diego Iván; Menjívar Flores,Juan Carlos;
Acta Agronómica , 2010,
Abstract: in order to determine the effect that the vinasse application has on p fractions and their relationship to the accumulation of total biomass in sweet corn, a greenhouse experiment was performed with soils from the municipalities of florida (inceptisol typic argiudoll with intrusions entic dystropept) and palmira (mollisol fluventic haplustoll) in valle del cauca, colombia. a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications was used. the treatments were applied trying to supply the potassium requirements of growing corn and separated into two periods: 15 days after sowing and, before crop flowering. the evaluation of phosphorus fractions was performed at the beginning and end of the test, as in the time of vinasse application. the application of t1 (kcl 100%) in the florida soil showed positive effects on the inorganic fraction of available and moderately available p. the t2 (100% vinasse) had no effect on phosphorus fractions. inorganic and organic fractions of available and moderately available p increased, as did applying t2 (100% vinasse) in mollisol. for both soils these same fractions showed high levels and significant difference between sampling indicating an adequate supply at the time of this nutrient, which is beneficial for short-cycle crops. regarding the accumulation of biomass on sweet corn, t1 and t2 were the treatments that had higher values in inceptisol without showing significant differences between them indicating that vinasse can completely replace kcl. in mollisol, t1 and t4 had the highest values of total biomass accumulation, showing that it is possible to replace 75% of synthetic fertilizer by vinasse because did not statistics differ between them.
CAPACIDAD DE GENERACIóN DE EMPLEO EN EL CUIDADO DE INFANTES EN EL VALLE DEL CAUCA, COLOMBIA: UN EJEMPLO A PARTIR DE LOS NUEVOS YACIMIENTOS DE EMPLEO
AGUADO QUINTERO,LUIS FERNANDO;
Estudios Gerenciales , 2007,
Abstract: using the new employment sources approach, in this article an evaluation is carried out of the potential employment created in the activity of looking after infants (0 - 4 years) in the valle del cauca department of colombia, by means of two alternatives: a) the number of potential jobs created through people employed in the home, or in child-care centers, and b) the number of potential jobs created for personnel in institutions outside the home, and who are specialized in primary education and child care. the calculations, taking into account only the infant population whose mothers or fathers have expressed dissatisfaction regarding their care, show a potential for the creation of 25,356 new jobs for workers in the home, or in child-care institutions, and a total of 4,057 positions for personnel in initial education and child-care centers.
