Abstract:

The binding characteristics of vitamin B1 (VB1) and vitamin B9 (VB9) with trypsin were investigated by fluorescence spectrometry and UV/vis spectrophotometry under simulated physiological conditions. With the addition of VB1 or VB9, the intrinsic fluorescence emission intensity of trypsin was quenched by the nonradiative energy transfer mechanism. The fluorescence quenching process of trypsin may be mainly governed by a static quenching mechanism. The binding parameters such as the binding constants and the number of binding sites can be evaluated by fluorescence quenching experiments. The numbers of the apparent binding constant Kb of VB1-trypsin at different temperatures were 0.4948 and 4.8340 × 104 L/mol and the numbers of binding sites n were 0.9359 and 1.1820. Abstract: Psechrus kunmingensis Yin, Wang & Zhang, 1985 was first described from the female only. The first illustration of the male appeared without any text description and lacked other critical information. For this study, we collected fresh specimens of this species from diverse localities around Yunnan Province, China. Here, the male is described in detail for the first time and a supplementary description of the female is given. Based on the largest collection of P. kunmingensis specimens ever assembled, we found a remarkably high level of morphological variation in this species.

Abstract:

The fault recovery of VSC-HVDC transmission system is often influenced by many factors, such as the reactive power compensation characteristics of the inverter and the dynamic performance of DC controllers. In this paper, the PSCAD/ EMTDC simulation tool is used to study the dynamic recovery performance of VSC-HVDC system for several different var compensating devices in VSC-HVDC inverter-Fixed capacitor (FC), Static Var compensator (SVC), and Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) when VSC-HVDC is subject to various faults, including three phase groundings, single phase grounding and three phase breakings. The result shows that the recovery process of the whole system will be slowed down due to its negative influence on the strength of AC power system with the application of SVC, while the STATCOM can improve VSC-HVDC recovery performance greatly for its advantages over other compensating devices in areas such as voltage support ability and DC power recovery.

Abstract:

Melioidosis, an infection caused by Gram-negative Burkholderia pseudomallei (Bp), has high clinical recurrence and mortality rates associated with pneumonia and sepsis. With the limitations in current therapeutic options and the lack of available human vaccines, development of novel countermeasures against Bp infection is vital. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of an aminoalkyl glucosaminide 4-phosphate (AGP), a synthetic toll like receptor 4 agonist (CRX-527), in conferring protection against melioidosis in a murine model. Survival data showed 66% of mice treated with AGP prior to lethal intranasal Bp challenge survived and presented no signs of illness over a 3 months period. In contrast, all control mice succumbed to infection within 4 days. Kinetic study on organ bacterial burden demonstrated mice treated with AGP had dramatically reduced bacterial loads in both the lungs and spleens as compared to control mice. Notably, all but one AGP-treated mouse had no Bp growth in the blood as compared to overwhelming bacteraemia found in all control mice. The protective effect of CRX-527 was associated with a transient increase in pulmonary cytokine/ chemokine levels, which boosted the host’s innate immunity. This enabled rapid clearance of the pulmonary and systemic bacterial burden and prevented the development of sepsis. This study demonstrated the potential use of TLR4 agonist as a prophylactic immunotherapy in preventing melioidosis.

Abstract: In this paper, it is shown that for negative absolute temperatures the form of the Le Chatelier's principle may not be changed, but the content of the second "force" action is opposite to that for positive absolute temperatures. Secondly, it is shown what condition is required for Maxwell's relations to fulfil the deduction of the Le Chatelier's principle.

Abstract: The sample breakdown of a test is defined as the smallest proportion of arbitrary outlier in the sample that can reverse the test decision. In this paper) we calculate and analyze the sample breakdown point of the maximum likelihood ratio test for the location parameter of the extreme value distribution with known scale parameter. The sample breakdown behavior of this kind of tests is improved by the truncation method. A numerical example is given.
ADATOM, VACANCY AND SPUTTERING YIELDS OF ENERGETIC Pt ATOMS IMPACTING ON Pt(100) BY MOLECULAR DYNAMICS SIMULATION

Abstract: We have studied the influence of incident atoms with low energy on the Pt(100) surface by molecular dynamics simulation. The interaction potential obtained by the embedded atom method (EAM) was used in the simulation. The incident energy changes from 0.1eV to 200eV, and the target temperature ranges from 100 to 500 K. The target scales are 6×6×4 and 8×8×4 fcc cells for lower and higher incident energies, respectively. The adatom, sputtering, vacancy and backscattering yields are calculated. It was found that there is a sputtering threshold for the incident energy. When the incident energy is higher than the sputtering threshold, the sputtering yield increases with the increase of incident energy, and the sputtering shows a symmetrical pattern. We found that the adatom and vacancy yields increase as the incident energy increases. The vacancy yields are much higher than those obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The dependence of the adatom and sputtering yields on the incident energy and the relative atomistic mechanisms are discussed.
Pseudo analytical solution to time periodic stiffness systems

Abstract: An analytical form of state transition matrix for a system of equations with time periodic stiffness is derived in order to solve the free response and also allow for the determination of system stability and bifurcation. A pseudo-closed form complete solution for parametrically excited systems subjected to inhomogeneous generalized forcing is developed, based on the Fourier expansion of periodic matrices and the substitution of matrix exponential terms via Lagrange-Sylvester theorem. A Mathieu type of equation with large amplitude is presented to demonstrate the method of formulating state transition matrix and Floquet multipliers. A two-degree-of-freedom system with irregular time periodic stiffness characterized by spiral bevel gear mesh vibration is presented to find forced response in stability and instability. The obtained results are presented and discussed.
