Transmittance Measurement of the Nonplanar Optical Based on Focal-Plane-Array Camera  [PDF]

Abstract: Aiming to solve the problem that it is difficult to accurately measure UV cut-off transmittance of xenon quartz glass by using present spectrophotometer in China SG III project. Through the analysis, we believe that its reason was that the xenon quartz glass was nonplanar so the outgoing beam geometry from under-test was different from that from standard sample. A method of transmittance measurement based on focal-plane-array camera was proposed in this article. The effects of camera uniformity and spot sampling on transmittance measurement were analyzed theoretically. This method, which can reduce the effect of beam geometry on transmittance measurement and eliminate the cutting error occurring during light transmission by monitoring the completeness of incident beam in real-time, is verified from experiments. The random standard uncertainty of this method here is 0.035% or less. It is particularly useful in the transmittance measurement of nonplanar optical.
Bone Cancer Mortality in Inner Mongolia from 2008 to 2012  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: The aim of our study was to assess bone cancer mortality and the related social factors in Inner Mongolia in China. Methods: We obtained data from the Centers for Disease Control in Inner Mongolia from five monitoring points of the Death Registry System in Inner Mongolia from 2008 to 2012. We calculated the crude mortality rate for bone cancer. The χ2 test was used to examine differences in bone cancer mortality rates between sexes and years. Unconditional logistic regressions were applied to analyze the effect of socio-demographic characteristics by sex. Results: Between 2008 and 2012, the crude mortality rate of bone cancer was 1.12/100000 (95% confidence interval = 1.02-1.21). The bone cancer mortality was 2.24 in men and 1.25 in women, resulting in a male-female ratio of 1.8. No between-year difference in the mortality rate was observed between 2008 and 2012 (men: χ2 = 4.65, P = 0.325; women: χ2 = 2.21, P = 0.698). In general, mortality increased with increasing age. People with a lower education level exhibited an increased risk of bone cancer among both men and women. Jobs involving extensive manual labor decreased the likelihood of bone cancer mortality, and the odds ratio was higher for men than women (0.6 vs. 0.45). Unmarried people had a higher risk for bone cancer than married people. Conclusion: The mortality rate of bone cancer was not significantly different between men and women from 2008 to 2012. The risk of bone cancer increased with age among both sexes. Unmarried people and those with a low education status had an elevated risk of bone cancer, whereas employment in a field involving extensive manual labor appeared to be a protective factor against bone cancer.

Abstract: Microalgae have great advantages as a new biomass source for fuel production. But microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms, which normally grow in the light. Because of this growth condition, the commercial viability of microalgal biofuel is limited by current production systems. To obtain microalgal biofuel, fermentation is a more convenient, more economical and practical industry model. In this study, we asked whether and why the dark fermentation of C. ellipsoidea SD-0701 could be achieved by changing the culture medium formula. We focused the research on carbon-containing compounds and the initial pH of media. The results indicated that glucose was the optimum carbon-containing compound, which provided C. ellipsoidea SD-0701 with energy and carbon skeleton for accumulating organic compounds including lipids. When C. ellipsoidea SD-0701 was cultivated in the add-nutrition medium containing glucose, the optimum initial pH for the growth of C. ellipsoidea SD-0701 was pH 7.71. Therefore, if the suitable medium is used, C. ellipsoidea SD-0701 can grow normally in the dark, which is the same condition as the fermenter, and high microalgal biomass (0.50 g·L-1) and lipid yield (232.90 mg·L-1) can be achieved.
Computer Use among Different Gender Medical Students in Inner Mongolia Medical University in China  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference of computer use and the negative effects for different gender in the Medical University of Inner Mongolia. Methods: A cross-sectional census was conducted on medical students on campus in 2013. Descriptive results were expressed as percentage, prevalence and means ± S.D. Gender differences of using computer time and using computer purpose for male and female students were analyzed by chi-square test. Results: Students using computer more than three hours per day had higher headache prevalence and poor academic performance prevalence than that less than three hours per day. The prevalence of male students using computer more than three hours per day was significantly higher than female students (x2 = 72.92, p < 0.001). The prevalence of male students using computer for playing games was more than 3 times higher than female students (50.2% vs 16.1%, x2 = 783.70, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Using computer for long time brings more students headache and poor academic performance. These results suggest that using computer time reasonably and learning efficiently among university students are necessary, especially for male.
A Review on RS- and GIS-Based Population Estimation Methods

Abstract: With rapid development of RS and GIS technologies, RS and GIS have become the main means of population estimation. RS- and GIS-based population estimation methods can be divided into two categories in terms of the application goal and the required data information, i. e. areal interpolation and statistical modeling. Methods depending on whether ancillary information is used, areal interpolation methods can be further grouped into two categories: areal interpolation without ancillary information and areal interpolation with ancillary information. Statistical modeling methods can be further separated into five classes according to the difference of independent variables in the model, i.e. built-up area estimation method, land use density method, dwelling unit estimation method, image pixel characteristic estimation method, and physical and socio-economic characteristic estimation method. Different kinds of population estimation methods based on RS and GIS were reviewed following the aforementioned classification criterion. The application occasion, advantage and disadvantage, and research instance of all sorts of population estimation methods were analyzed. Finally, the issues necessary to be studied further in this field were put forward.

Stabilized explicit-implicit domain decomposition is a group of methods for solving time-dependent partial difference equations of the parabolic type on parallel computers. They are efficient, stable, and highly parallel, but suffer from a restriction that the interface boundaries must not intersect inside the domain. Various techniques have been proposed to handle this restriction. In this paper, we present finite difference schemes for discretizing the equation spatially, which is of high simplicity, easy to implement, attains second-order spatial accuracy, and allows interface boundaries to intersect inside the domain.

Abstract: The current penalties in China are not sufficient to effectively curb pedophilia. Chemical castration is not the corporal punishment in real sense but indicates reducing the medical treatment of the criminal’s lust by injecting anti-androgen drugs without causing perpetual harm to the criminal’s body. It includes many aspects such as penalty execution procedure & object, treatment position, and penalty execution replacement & guarantee, etc. There are characteristic regulations on it in many states of America. The drastic argument on issues including the constitutionality, fairness, effectiveness and economy of the penalty is held in the American academic circle. Chemical castration has remarkable effect in urging catamite crime, which is worth of referring to for Chinese criminal law. However, it is necessary to take precaution against the limitation in design of the specific system.

Abstract: Objective: The aim of our study was to analyze the character of cause of death in Inner Mongolia of China from 2008 to 2014. Methods: We collected data from monitoring points of the Death Registry System (DRS) in Inner Mongolia. We calculated the mortality rates by gender, year and age-specific. We calculated the proportion, the mortality rate and potential years of life lost (PYLL) of various system deaths. Results: During the period 2008-2014, the average crude mortality rate of all cause of death was 539.33/105. The mortality rate increased semilogarithm linearly with age. The top four system deaths were circulatory system, neoplasm, respiratory system and injury. In 2014, the mortality rates of circulatory system were increased and the mortality rates of certain infectious and parasitic diseases, neoplasms, respiratory system, genitourinary system and injury were decreased compared to those in 2008. Conclusion: Through analysis the indicators of proportion, the mortality rate and PYLL indicated that health status of a population in Inner Mongolia was at a better level.
Effects of ischemic preconditioning on ischemia/reperfusion-induced arrhythmias by upregulatation of connexin 43 expression

Abstract: Thirty-three rabbit models of myocardial hypertrophy were randomly divided into three groups of 11 each: non-ischemia-reperfusion group (group A), ischemia-reperfusion group (group B), and ischemic preconditioning group (group C). Another ten healthy rabbits with normal myocardium served as the healthy control group. Rabbit models of myocardial hypertrophy were induced by abdominal aortic banding. Surface electrocardiogram (ECG) was recorded and Curtis-Ravingerova score was used for arrhythmia quantification. Connexin 43 (Cx43) expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry.Ratios of heart weight to body weight and left ventricular weight to body weight increase significantly in the three groups compared with the healthy control group (p < 0.05). Arrhythmia incidence in group C is significantly lower than group B (p < 0.05). Curtis-Ravingerova score in group C is lower than group B (p < 0.05). Cx43 expression area in group A is smaller by comparison with the healthy control group (p < 0.05). Cx43 expression area and fluorescence intensity in group B are reduced by 60.9% and 23.9%, respectively, compared with group A (p < 0.05). In group C, Cx43 expression area increases by 32.5% compared with group B (p < 0.05), and decreases by 54.8% compared with group A (p < 0.05).The incidence of ischemia/reperfusion-induced arrhythmias in hypertrophic rabbit hearts decreases after IP, which plays an important protecting role on the electrophysiology of hypertrophied myocardium by up-regulating the expression of Cx43.Various degrees of myocardial injury are present in hypertrophic hearts of patients undergoing open heart surgery. The hypertrophied myocardium differs from normal myocardium in myocyte architecture and myocardial blood supply. Molecular phylogenetic relationships of China Seas groupers based on cytochrome b gene fragment sequences

Abstract: The classification and evolutionary relationships are important issues in the study of the groupers. Cytochrome b gene fragment of twenty-eight grouper species within six genera of subfamily Epinephelinae was amplified using PCR techniques and the sequences were analyzed to derive the phylogenetic relationships of the groupers from the China Seas. Genetic information indexes, including Kimura-2 parameter genetic distance and T S/T V ratios, were generated by using a variety of biology softwares. With Niphon spinosus, Pagrus major and Pagrus auriga as the designated outgroups, phylogenetic trees, which invoke additional homologous sequences of other Epinephelus fishes from GenBank, were constructed based on the neighbor-joining (NJ), maximum-parsimony (MP), maximum-likelihood (ML) and minimum-evolution (ME) methods. Several conclusions were drawn from the DNA sequences analysis: (1) genus Plectropomus, which was early diverged, is the most primitive group in the subfamily Epinephelinae; (2) genus Variola is more closely related to genus Cephalopolis than the other four genera; (3) genus Cephalopolis is a monophyletic group and more primitive than genus Epinephelus; (4) Promicrops lanceolatus and Cromileptes altivelis should be included in genus Epinephelus; (5) there exist two sister groups in genus Epinephelus.
