Serum microRNA and its applied prospect in tumor diagnosis and prognosis

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to introduce the relationship of the serum microRNAs and carcinogenesis and the progress of the serum microRNAs as the potential clinical biomarkers of various cancers. Though much difficulty remains in the serum microRNAs studies, more evidences indeed proved the associations between the serum microRNA profiles and the carcinogenesis. Moreover, the serum microRNAs detection is low-invasive and easy to handle, indicating the serum microRNAs might to be useful biomarkers for tumor diagnosis or prognosis.

Intranasal LPS-Mediated Parkinson’s Model Challenges the Pathogenesis of Nasal Cavity and Environmental Toxins

Abstract: Accumulating evidence implicates the relationship between neuroinflammation and pathogenesis in idiopathic Parkinson's disease (iPD). The nose has recently been considered a gate way to the brain which facilitates entry of environmental neurotoxin into the brain. Our study aims to build a PD model by a natural exposure route. In this report, we establish a new endotoxin-based PD model in mice by unilateral intranasal (i.n.) instillation of the lipopolysaccharides (LPS) every other day for 5 months. These mice display a progressive hypokinesia, selective loss of dopaminergic neurons, and reduction in striatal dopamine (DA) content, as well as α-synuclein aggregation in the SN, without systemic inflammatory and immune responses. This new PD model provides a tool for studying the inflammation-mediated chronic pathogenesis and searching for therapeutic intervention in glia-neuron pathway that will slow or halt neurodegeneration in PD.

At present study, homomorphic encryption scheme is most focusing on algorithm efficiency and security and the rare for homomorphic encryption simulation research. This paper for the Gentry’s Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption scheme for the simulation research, in clear text size within a certain range simulation was Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption scheme, and presents the relationship between the length of plaintext and ciphertext size.

Abstract: Decadal rainfall data of 228 stations in 1951-1970 and upper-wind records in 1960-1969 published by the Central Meteorological Bureau and relevant provincial organizations are employed in the analysis. It is found that the characteristic features of seasonal variation of the main rain-belts over eastern China to the east of 105°F are quite different from those to the west, over the Qinghai-Xi?hang (Tibetan) Plateau. The eastern rain-belts are closely related to the low level flow convergence lines and significantly influenced by the south Asian high and the western Pacific subtropical high.
Novel Frem1-Related Mouse Phenotypes and Evidence of Genetic Interactions with Gata4 and Slit3

Abstract: The FRAS1-related extracellular matrix 1 (FREM1) gene encodes an extracellular matrix protein that plays a critical role in the development of multiple organ systems. In humans, recessive mutations in FREM1 cause eye defects, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, renal anomalies and anorectal malformations including anteriorly placed anus. A similar constellation of findings–microphthalmia, cryptophthalmos, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, renal agenesis and rectal prolapse–have been described in FREM1-deficient mice. In this paper, we identify a homozygous Frem1 missense mutation (c.1687A>T, p.Ile563Phe) in an N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU)-derived mouse strain, crf11, with microphthalmia, cryptophthalmos, renal agenesis and rectal prolapse. This mutation affects a highly conserved residue in FREM1’s third CSPG domain. The p.Ile563Phe change is predicted to be deleterious and to cause decreased FREM1 protein stability. The crf11 allele also fails to complement the previously described eyes2 allele of Frem1 (p.Lys826*) providing further evidence that the crf11 phenotype is due to changes affecting Frem1 function. We then use mice bearing the crf11 and eyes2 alleles to identify lung lobulation defects and decreased anogenital distance in males as novel phenotypes associated with FREM1 deficiency in mice. Due to phenotypic overlaps between FREM1-deficient mice and mice that are deficient for the retinoic acid-responsive transcription factor GATA4 and the extracellular matrix protein SLIT3, we also perform experiments to look for in vivo genetic interactions between the genes that encode these proteins. These experiments reveal that Frem1 interacts genetically with Gata4 in the development of lung lobulation defects and with Slit3 in the development of renal agenesis. These results demonstrate that FREM1-deficient mice faithfully recapitulate many of the phenotypes seen in individuals with FREM1 deficiency and that variations in GATA4 and SLIT3 expression modulate some FREM1-related phenotypes in mice.
Restoring pollen fertility in transgenic male-sterile eggplant by Cre/loxp-mediated site-specific recombination system

Abstract: this study was designed to control plant fertility by cell lethal gene barnase expressing at specific developmental stage and in specific tissue of male organ under the control of cre/loxp system, for heterosis breeding, producing hybrid seed of eggplant. the barnase-coding region was flanked by loxp recognition sites for cre-recombinase. the eggplant inbred/pure line ('e-38') was transformed with cre gene and the inbred/pure line ('e-8') was transformed with the barnase gene situated between loxp. the experiments were done separately, by means of agrobacterium co-culture. four t0-plants with the barnase gene were obtained, all proved to be male-sterile and incapable of producing viable pollen. flowers stamens were shorter, but the vegetative phenotype was similar to wild-type. five t0-plants with the cre gene developed well, blossomed out and set fruit normally. the crossing of male-sterile barnase-plants with cre expression transgenic eggplants resulted in site-specific excision with the male-sterile plants producing normal fruits. with the barnase was excised, pollen fertility was fully restored in the hybrids. the phenotype of these restored plants was the same as that of the wild-type. thus, the barnase and cre genes were capable of stable inheritance and expression in progenies of transgenic plants.
Fabrication and characterization of patterned carbon nanotube flow sensor cell

Abstract: Patterned flow sensor cell consisting of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) network and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) are fabricated, based on the process of vacuum filtration, photolithography, and plasma etching. The sensor cell is a composite thin film and packaged to form a flow sensor, and then tested in different flow rates with different liquids, such as deionized (DI) water and NaCl solution. The induced-voltage increases with increasing flowing velocity and liquid concentration. The relation between induced-voltage and sensor cell conductivity is tested in the same liquid at the same flow rate. The higher the conductivity is, the higher the induced-voltage is. Some of the SWCNTs are fixed in the PDMS matrix, simultaneously some of them protrude above the composite thin film, which are exposed to the liquid and contribute to the voltage generation. The fabrication method can make the flow sensor scaled down to dimensions on the order of micrometers, which makes it suitable in very small liquid volumes.
