Effects of N rates on N uptake and yield in erect panicle rice  [PDF]

The field experiment was conducted in 2005 and 2006 at Northern Japonica Rice Cultivation and Breeding Research Center, Shenyang Agricultural University,Shenyang, northeast China. Shennong 265 (typical erect panicle rice cultivar), and Liaojing 294 (traditional semi-erect panicle rice cultivar) were grown under different N rates to assess N uptake and N use efficiency. Nitrgen (N) uptake of two rice cultivars increased in their response to N improvement. Grain N of Liaojing 294 predominantly came from root absorption on low N treatments, while grain N of Shennong 265 mainly came from root absorption and had less N re-transferring from vegetative organs under high N rates. Shennong 265 produced less N uptake before heading and more N uptake after heading than Liaojing 294. GY was highly related with N fertilizer rate (r2 = 0.870** for Shennong 265, r2 = 0.613* for Liaojing 294). Shennong 265 was a N-unefficient genotype, since it produced low yield at low N levels and responded well to N application. Liaojing 294 was a N-efficient genotype producing high yield at both low and high N rates. NNG and NFUE exhibited positive correlation with N application rates, but NUEPG showed negative correlation with N application rates; GY as well as BIO and N uses efficiency parameters (TN, NNG, NFUE) which were all positively correlate, while the correlation between GY as well as BIO and the other N efficiency indicators expressed negative correlation. The relationship between GY and TN as well as BIO and TN was observed with significant difference (r2 = 0.824**, r2 = -0.858

Design principles and parameters of rice ideal panicle type

Abstract: On the basis of many years of research at the laboratory, and by making reference to the related literature published at home and abroad, in this paper the concept of rice ideal panicle type was introduced, and the principles of rice ideal panicle type design were elucidated. The parameters of rice ideal panicle type for Liaoning were preliminarily established as follows: Panicle length <17 cm, neck-panicle curvature <40°, neck panicle length 3–4 cm, neck diameter >2 mm, large vascular bundle and primary branch >15 pieces/panicle, primary branch grain >80 grains/panicle, secondary branch grains concentrating in the middle and upper parts of panicle axis, and panicle type index >0.5. In addition, the possibility of achieving unity of grain yield and quality at a still higher level by creating an ideal panicle type was explored.

Abstract: The influence of temperature on cross-hatching on cone models made of wax and camphor is studied. Ablating experiments are carried out in heated supersonic tunnels. The relation between temperature and the wavelength of hatching is obtained. The relation between pressure and the wavelength of hatching is verified. The influence of temperature and pressure on the initial position of the appearance of hatching and on the time required for both the appearance of hatching and the formation of stable hatching analyzed.

Abstract: The current situation of biotic communities in Meizhou Bay is presented in this paper.The species composition,seasonal variation,and distribution of phytoplankton,zooplankton, red tide organisms,fishes,and benthos in Meizhou Bay were investigated,and the content of chlorophyll a and primary production and their seasonal variation were also determined.The water quality of Meizhou Bay was monitored by measuring the density of Escherichia coli. Results reveal that there is a great variety of species in Meizhou Bay and the water in Meizhou Bay is oligotrophic.But the individual numbers of various organisms are very low, especially those of algae.Moreover,there are more than 40 species of red tide organisms and there exist opportunities of red tides between May and November.All these demand cautious be taken in the future development of this area although it has great environment capacity.

Abstract: The distribution of the lifetime of Chinese dynasties (as well as that of the British Isles and Japan) in a linear Zipf plot is found to consist of two straight lines intersecting at a transition point. This two-section piecewise-linear distribution is different from the power law or the stretched exponent distribution, and is called the Bilinear Effect for short. With assumptions mimicking the organization of ancient Chinese regimes, a 3-layer network model is constructed. Numerical results of this model show the bilinear effect, providing a plausible explanation of the historical data. Bilinear effect in two other social systems is presented, indicating that such a piecewise-linear effect is widespread in social systems.
A Decision Problem of Hotels on Setting Online-Exclusive-Rooms in E-Commerce Age  [PDF]

Due to the rapid development of information technology, customers’ consumption pattern in hotel industry has dramatically changed, and many people book rooms through some professional online platforms. Hotel managers need to redesign their sale channel structures by incorporating online platforms, in order to increase profit. This paper focuses on a revenue maximization problem for a hotel which cooperates with an online platform. Two cooperating forms are investigated and compared. Specifically, one intuitive form is named complete sharing, in which all the hotel rooms are shared with the online platform for booking. The other form is named setting online-exclusive-rooms (OERs), in which the hotel set a fixed quantity of rooms for exclusively booking from the online platform. By building a loss queueing model, this paper finds some properties of the optimal quantity of OERs in the latter form. Factors affecting the selection and how they affect the selection are also investigated.

An Algorithm for Improving Throughput Guarantee of Topology-Transparent MAC Scheduling Strategy  [PDF]

Abstract: Topology-transparent MAC scheduling strategies nowadays are all based on combinatorial design. To get throughput guarantee, a cover-free set is output as scheduling strategy of network. In this paper, we aim to modify the cover-free set so that better throughput can be guaranteed. At the first step, the redundant slot of the cover-free set is proposed and found to have negative influence on the minimal guaranteed throughput. Second, we prove that any subset of a cover-free set is still a cover-free set after its redundant slots were squashed out. Our algorithm chooses the subset which has the maximal number of redundant slots, squashes all of its redundant slots, and then designates it as the network scheduling strategy. Therefore, better through- put can be guaranteed if the squashed subset is adopted as network scheduling strategy. For any topology- transparent node scheduling strategy, both the increased minimal throughput and decreased maximal transmission delay can be gotten by just using our algorithm as an extra accessory.
Experimental and Numerical Study of the Effect of Surround Protection Technique on the Strain Measurement for Offshore Jacket Platform  [PDF]

Abstract: For strain measurement on offshore jacket platform in deep water, waterproof of strain foil is always an important issue, especially, due to the high pressure in deep water. The waterproof is difficult in two places, one is between the matrix structure and the protection structure, and another is between the lead wires and the protection structure. The surround protection technique discussed in this paper is conventional and ideal, and can be operative for a long time, up to five years. In this method, a metal case and tube is added on the local position, which increases the local rigidity, but the effect on the measurement of strain is not well studied. In this paper, the effect of the surround protection technique on the strain measurement is studied by using numerical and experimental methods, and the results show that the measurement error is well in the range permitted by engineering practice.
